  Adidas Terex, or Nike Dunk Low GTX, or Merrill GoreTex is what I would recommend. All very comfortable for all day wear. None are that heavy like a leather boot for example. Waterproof and good grip for all weather situations.

  Keen Austin is a pretty good choice if you can only take one shoe. On most work trips I pack something that looks nice for work (dressy sneaker like Adidas Gazelle or loafer) and a running shoe for longer walks, hikes and gym. For hot climes, usually I also throw in my Archies flip-flops as they are super light. Really depends on activities. I'm on a family trip now and have Reef Otis boots (similar to Blundstones but lighter) and gore tex NB sneakers - great for winter trip that is mostly city walking and some easy trails. I put Superfeet green insoles in anything that's not a running shoe as I have high arches. Probably could have got away without the sneakers on this trip tbh as I doubt I'll make it to the gym.

  Waterproof Everyday/Running Shoes Recommendation

  I exclusively wear waterproof shoes (whether boots or sneakers). For sneakers, I’ve really loved my Nike Pegasus Trail Gore-Tex high tops, adidas ultraboost winter.rdy or cold.rdy, and lately I’ve been wearing Merrell Moab Speed Gore-Tex. Never had a problem with wet feet, always comfortable and don’t worry about rain or puddles

  Going to Europe, suggestions for comfortable, not-ugly walking shoes that will last?

  For London or Paris, I’d go with a simple leather sneaker like Ecc⁤o Soft 7, Vejas, or Adid⁤as Stan Smiths. Maybe add a pair of nicer Chelsea boots if that’s your style. Both work well with jeans or slightly dressier pants and don’t make you stand out as a tourist. The most important thing is having decent insoles and shoes that are already broken in before you go. The cobblestones will destroy your feet otherwise. When I did a similar trip, I rented a couple of nicer outfits from Ren⁤t the Runway so I could pack lighter and focus my suitcase space (and budget) on one solid pair of shoes I could walk in all day. Dark socks and avoiding big white running shoes also help a lot with blending in.

  Looking for the most durable and fashionable men’s sneakers

  You’re not doing anything wrong wearing one pair almost every day will kill pretty much any sneaker, especially flat ones like Chucks, Vans, or Sambas. They look great but they’re not built to be daily beaters. If you want stuff that actually holds up *and* still looks good, these are easily the top picks in 2025: **Adidas Samba (in rotation, not daily), Adidas Ozeweego, New Balance 9060, Nike Zoom Vomero 5, and ASICS Gel-1130**. All of those have way better cushioning, heel structure, and outsole durability than vulcanized shoes. Biggest upgrade though? Rotate 2–3 pairs. One flat classic, one cushioned runner-style shoe, one casual beater. Even “durable” sneakers fall apart fast if they’re worn every day.

  I'll second pair of thieves long boxer briefs and I also just enjoyed Nike micro dri long boxer briefs, they don't bunch up on me but the longevity for the price hasn't been the best. Also have had some good luck with Adidas as long as they aren't the pure mesh/micro ones.

  Kids shoes - help with a shoe that has a durable toe.

  Many of us have been through this with boys the same age. The real answer is, there isn't anything that's going to hold up to crawling around on the cement and ground, dragging your toes across the surface. The good news is, he'll grow out of it soon and it won't be a concern. Avoid anything with a cloth toe...which = most running shoes on the market. Leather/fake leather toes tend to hold up a little better. We also got my son a pair of shell toe adidas when he was doing this and they held up ok. Hang in there and keep reminding him that he's ruining his shoes. He'll eventually stop to a large degree.

  What’s something you’ve bought once and never had to replace?

  I have a pair of Adidas soccer shorts from the mid-late 90s that are still in ridiculously good shape. They have been in my weekly laundry rotation for 25 years- gone through my high school soccer career, college, two pregnancies, and about 70 lbs in weigh fluctuation. Apart from a couple of snags, they are in great shape. The eternal pair of shorts.

  Only footwear that's buy it for life are leather goodyear welt shoes which can be repaired. If you can handle those then great. But what I believe you're really looking for is a running shoe. Try all the popular brands with their high-end soft sole material. Like Adidas ultra boost material, whatever brooks puts in their Glycerin line of shoes, Nike with their zoomX material. Some budget options would be the Hoka Clifton. Consider 'stack height', consider heel-to-toe-drop and consider toe box width. Those are major factors specific to each individual. For hiking I use trail runners, Hoka speedgoat. For running I've been using brooks glycerin. For walking around town I have a bunch of Adidas ultra boost 1.0s. All of which I bought at massive discounts at a dicks warehouse. Check out dicks warehouse or Sierra trading post to get high quality name brand shit for actually significant sales.

  Second this, nearly 5 years, 3 countries and multiple terrains later my adidas slides are still good to go. The only issue being that the grip on the soles has worn out and smoothened as a result over time but other than that they can be worn and are good to go

  Adidas slides are the most long lasting. I had some I used as camp shoes and had an issue with wet boots once during a river crossing on a backpacking trip. I ended up going up and down around 8,000 ft on a mountain trail with Adidas slides. I still have them and they work great after almost 9 years.

  I recommend Nike Venture Runner. These lasted me for 4 years of daily wear and I still have them. Had to do some repairs on the net recently tho. Also adidas 8k is the most durable pair I've ever had. I don't know if they still sell newer 8k 2020 edition.

  generally speaking skateboard shoes are overbuilt to withstand their use case and will last a lot longer than a normal sneaker if you don't skate. Ton's of brands like dc, emerica, vans, etnies, e's, hours is yours, osiris, globe etc. Some of the bigger companies make skate shoes as well, iirc adidas and nike both have lines.

  If you still like adidas their skate shoes are way more durable. The original busenitz and especially the Tyshawn lows. Take a while to break in and you might not like the toe design but I’ve dailied those for years. My first pair is over 5 years old now and they still look and feel good. They mold to your foot just like the soccer shoes but they are way tougher. Sambas go to shit after a while.

  Adidas Samba Indoor Soccer shoes lasted more than seven years for me. The sole seems to last forever to the point where the glue holding them onto the body of the shoe itself fails before it gets worn down enough to really notice. Regular running or cross-trainers I wear for exercise have very heavy pronation heel wear, so they tend to get tossed after 2 years since there’s no real repairs available for the ones I normally purchase (usually Nike or New Balance). Granted I may be an outlier as I only wear mine roughly once or twice a week on weekends since I normally exclusively wear Mephistos that have gone through at least two official refurbishment services.

  Adidas mundial goal. They are full leather reinforced versions of sambas, or sneaker versions of their full leather World Cup soccer cleats that are often worn by referees. They last long enough that I stop wearing them because the sole is worn smooth and the foam is compressed, compared to normal sneakers that I stop wearing because the uppers fell apart. My last pair is still in occasional use even though they’re almost a decade old.

You cannot ask about support in shoes ever as that's a personal metric and shoes come in length and sometimes width measurements and if you native footbed is fine...great....if not, that's a YOU issue where you buy aftermarket or custom insoles. Nike AF1 and Adidas Sambas are known tough. Google Margom sole sneakers as there are many makers which can be resoled by a cobbler for years of service.. Allen Edmonds sneakers can be resoled by a cobbler for years of service.

Nike AF1 and Adidas Sambas are natively hardy. Google Margom sole sneakers and you'll find many makers and they can be recrafted by a cobbler. Now neither are "walking shoes" style, but if you are in it for BIFL vice looks, these will fit the bill.

  Sketchers are some of the worst walking shoes and wear out the fastest, so I’m surprised they last for you. If you want durability in a walking shoe I’d recommend adidas ultraboost. There’s a few different styles that use the UB sole, but UB is super durable and resilient, and they use Continental rubber for the tread. You generally get several thousand miles from them instead of a few hundred like most walking shoes. They hold up well. Plus adidas puts at least a bit of effort into recycling and being somewhat sustainable, which is better than nothing.

  I've had my Adidas Terrex for yeaaaars and they're just now starting to wear... just bought another pair to replace them to hopefully last another decade :) The women's colours are super meh and wish they provided the men's ones for us too but I just can't find another shoe that's as stable, comfortable yet grippy as these.

  Bro I worked in garments from screen to digital dtf and hands down the better brands give you a better fabric. The blends are where it’s at for lasting color and wear.. Tultex or American Apparel are my favorites. If it’s a cotton it has to be ultra thick or Bella Canvas soft style concert tees. Low cost and very quality.  Otherwise just get polyester shirts from wherever. Adidas and Nike have outlet stores where you can get Dri-fit tees that are top tier. Puma and UA are meh.

  Looking for durable mens shoes

  For daily wear a sneaker is just going to wear out. I walk a lot on city sidewalks, and the most durable daily driver soles I've found are Adidas Continental rubber soles and Brooks. But even those getting 5-6 months of 12,000+ steps is about as much useful life as you're gonna get. If you want them to last longer, you'll have to buy multiple pairs and rotate. I'm not a fan of Birkenstocks personally (on looks alone, I have no idea how they feel), but AIUI a good cobbler can resole and restore them.

  What is your most unintentional BIFL item?

  I had a black/blue adidas backpack with neon green accents throughout middle school that I picked because it was the only one I liked that was big enough to fit my lunchbox. It was nicely-ventilated, with sturdy but padded straps, that are slightly stretchy somehow? When i started 9th grade, I got a black fjallraven laptop backpack (I’ve still got it, another bifl) because i needed a safe place for my laptop, and wanted something less… colorful. I continued to use the old one as a soccer bag. I had a lot of equipment due to being a goalkeeper, and it certainly got put through its paces. I dragged it through the mud, on busses, dropped it in parking lots, left it in the rain during games, shut it in car doors, got it stuck in lockers, fences, you name it. not a single torn stitch on the damn thing. I graduated high school, stopped playing soccer, and kept it around as a weekend bag for trips up through college (after a thorough wash, it smelled and looked brand new). Stashing it full of liquor bottles wrapped in t-shirts was no problem for the old bag, nor was when i dropped it 10ft down a rock face into a creek while hiking (sans liquor). Once I was done with college, my pops needed a smaller bag for a trip we were taking and I offered it to him. He’s been using it to this day, and i’m thrilled as I don’t have much use for it these days, since the fjallraven covers my needs

  Best wide shoes for heavy folks (8+ hours standing)

  I'm about 280 lbs so also pretty hefty. I also have a wide foot. Many folks on here will have better input than I, but i did do some poking around for this issue a while ago. I was wearing service crocs for a long time and I needed a sneaker. I landed on the Adidas Ultraboost line. My first pair was $130, my second pair was a Gore-Tex model that was on sale for $100. Specifically, the heel support is really nice and cushioned, and I wouldn't call the toe box roomy, but it's certainly not tight.

  Streadler mechanical pencils LEGO Liberty tabletop flatware - from the kids stainless steel to adults I’ve been amazed at the quality Redland cotton sheets Brooklinen towels - holy crap I ordered these with my bedsheets (I didn’t find the sheets impressive) but I am obsessed with their towels. I don’t understand how they’re not famous for their towels. wecks jars for leftovers - they have a replacement for the rubber ring and a glass lid I’m coming around to Cotopaxi since it’s repairable like Patagonia Patagonia for my winter coats and luggage Reima kids outdoor gear, I got some used and my two kids used it. We passed it on and the winter coats and boots still look brand new. You’d never know they were on their 6-8th kid at this point. Blueland refillable hand soap containers. My kids have been abusing them for 7 years and they still somehow work perfectly. They’re made of glass and have been dropped on my tile floor a handful of times and still somehow didn’t break. Adidas backpack - got this after frustration with beans crappy gear now on clearance at tjmaxx and it had a lifetime guarantee. It’s 3 years into my kid abusing it and is holding up amazingly well for a bag I only bought because it was pink and 3 weeks into school and I was tired. Ball canning jars - they just have it figured out Franklin well pumps (not buy for life so much as better product with better longevity). Other than that, local artists crafts I tend to find have amazing quality. Cutting boards, furniture from carpenters, cabinet makers tend to have the best and I go there first. I had a carpenter make me a coffee table and 4 adults could use that as a bench. It’s so sturdy. I’ve been fairly impressed so far by little adventures kids dress up clothing. They’re machine washable and years later actually are doing extremely well which is amazing for kids dress up clothing. I won’t know if it’s really BIFL level until it’s passed down to 6+ kids through my friends and they report back. So far 2 kids and approximately 4 years later it’s still going strong and has the gems and glitter still. I know underwear shouldn’t be BIFL but Hanna Andersson kids underwear is phenomenal quality There’s are companies who I previously considered for their longevity of products not always BIFL who have compromised quality and I no longer recommend them: Primary kids clothing - bought these in the early days of the brand and their kids cotton dresses have gotten dramatically thinner Llbean - dropped their guarantee on products and my kids backpack in preschool fell apart 3 separate times. She was 4 and it only carried a folder. My 2005 llbean was misused, overfilled and worn excessively and is in amazing shape. They suck now. Bombas socks - wear way faster now. My 2017 socks are in better shape than my 2023 socks. Gould well pumps are absolutely shite now

There’s even a comment in there from someone who worked at Bombas. Long story short: Enshitification. I’ve replaced my entire stock with Adidas from Costco but have put Darn Tough socks on my Christmas and birthday list and look forward to that collection growing.

  Looking for Shoe recommendations!

  I’ve had common projects for 6 years and they look brand new. They’re all leather so once you break them in, they’ll fit really nicely. It’s a flat shoe though in case if you’re looking for ankle support. I don’t really run but I really liked my adidas ultraboosts. My mom still wears my pair from like 6 years ago too.

  Didn’t expect this to last me 10+ years… but here we are

  IKEA stainless steel pots. Yeah I know it's not the usual $200+ pots/saucepans everyone recommends but they work fantastic and will probably last a few decades easily Basically all of my clothes are up to a decade old at this point with no wear/tear. They're definitely not the usual BIFL clothes, some are just regular Primark shirts. I honestly think people are washing their clothes incorrectly or are doing something ridiculously wrong considering how many people here seem to have issues getting clothing to last more than a year or so Random Adidas backpack - got it when I was 12 years old. It's got me through all of school, hobbies, college, university, part time jobs and a full time job and still works fine now. No idea how it's lasted that long

  I prefer trail runners. The usual failure point is the sole-glue coming apart. Nike acg used to be good but very overpriced. Merrell, Salomon are excellent... Right now I'm wearing a pair of Adidas terrex free Hiker 2 - gore-tex (last year's model, sold a huge discount because less popular color combo.... Msrp 180, bought for $90) Incredibly comfortable and supportive with cloud foam... My daily shoes are overpriced red wings. (shouldn't prices have dropped, when they moved production overseas??)

  I've had white Adidas sneakers for years now. I agree with all the comments about rotating though! Another trick to get more life out of shoe is to replace the laces and the inserts. You can get memory foam ones on Amazon for like $10! As for other quality shoe brands, I love my Tao sandals and leather sneakers (they are only made for women though, which is interesting), SAS, Sorel, and Naot. All of them are on the pricier side, but they are worth it for the comfort and craftsmanship! My most recent work shoes are Under Armour from their outlet, and they've actually held up incredibly well for the last year or so (I'm a nurse, so they get a lot of wear!) If you are looking for shoes made in the US d/t the cost of tariffs right now, Pikilinos are made here.

  Your budget does not support unlocking all BIFL sneakers. There are some sneakers that are just known hardy. From what I remember/know, those are Adidas Sambas and Nike AF1. And while these are "guys" shoes, you are certainly eligible to wear them. If you want real BIFL sneakers, Allen Edmonds makes some and you can google Margom sole sneakers as these both can be recrafted by a cobbler for years and years of use, but they usually exceed $100.

  Most shoe brands now a days are made cheap and have an even cheaper models. I prefer Adidas cause nikes always fell apart on me in less than a year. Currently wear boots or slide sandals, most of the time. So I am not to sure. Usually it's not just a brand but specific models that are well made.

  Best hiking boots for men - Suggestions needed.

  After years in heavy leather hiking books that were way too heavy and rigid for the type of hiking I do, I changed to the light weight trail-type  boots. I had Merrell MOAB (excellent), North Face Vectiv (rubbish) and now Adidas Terrex Free Hiker (excellent). These are not BIFL though.

  Former warehouse worker here. Worked 8-10 hour shifts similarly to you. The most important thing is finding shoes that fit your feet properly. More premium shoe stores are going to be able to tell you what type of feet you have in terms of width and arch. No matter how nice the shoes you buy are, they won’t properly support your feet if they’re too narrow or have too high/low of an arch for your foot shape. From there, New Balance (in general) or Adidas (“boost”lines) both make shoes that are comfortable sneakers yet also provide adequate support for working on your feet all day.

  Get two(or more) pairs of shoes and alternate so they get a chance to wear out Adidas superstar was my go to when on my feet a lot. The rubber toe can take some wear. Generally the soles are long lasting and you can get these discounted from a lot of places. New balance 574 are another solid option. Suede breathes better than synthetics.

  Backpack for college

  I don’t treat my bags well, like packing them till they arbor to burst, and my adidas prime backpack is holding up great. Tons of compartments and deep cupholders that are great for tall or chunky bottles. It has a 17 inch laptop compartment and a pocket for AirPods. It also washes in the machine pretty well and can be wiped down easily.

  If you don’t care about looks since they’re just going to be house shoes, I’ve worn the same pair of adidas slides for years (at least 5, possibly 10? not sure exactly how long). They’re solely for inside the house and the go across the top of the foot like yours do (not in between the toes). Yours are much cuter but the adidas slides have truly been a work horse house shoe for me and they’re still looking and feeling great

  Help finding total foot comfort shoes or boots.

  1. There is no such thing as wide feet as that is a term with no value. 2. Women's Brannock Device: https://tristaterunning.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/womens-brannock.pdf Find your actual shoe size and write this down. So many people think that since they were a 10 in high school they are a 10 at 32. When you find out your actual shoe is a 9D, then use an online calculator to find your men's size as this opens the aperture. Proper sizing should help with apparent comfort. Notice the word apparent? 0 people can help you with this metric as its personal and akin to me telling you where the best tacos are or the best movie of 2024 is. BIFL shoes are based on construction or natural hardiness and are as follows: 1. Sneakers. Margom sole sneakers which google will show you. Allen Edmonds sneakers. Both are repairble by a cobbler. Adidas Sambas and Nike AF1 are natively hardy. 2. Casual/dress. Any Goodyear welted shoe/boot or if you see the word recraftable in the description. These can be repaired by a cobbler. Clarks Bushacre II are natively hardy. As to comfort, you might need to get off the wallet for legit custom orthotics. These can be had via a podiatrist and may be mitigated with insurance or you can go to a foot specialist store and pay for them outright. Those are your paths for BIFL and comfort.

  I took up walking early last year and started buying the [Adidas 4DFWD](https://www.adidas.com/us/4dfwd-running) line. They are the most comfortable for my 15k+ step days. I’ve tried On Clouds, Altras, Nike, Hoka, etc. and they just don’t compare to the Adidas so I keep going back. This may be a personal thing related to my foot structure though. I will note that they tend to show wear after about 6 weeks of daily heavy walking and I’ve replaced mine about 4 times over the last year so I wouldn’t necessarily call it “BIFL”

  It's ok to have sports sneakers like Hoka, Nike, etc if you're going to walk a lot. Want to be more European? Go Adidas, Puma or On. But if the "average" American tourist wants to go unnoticed in Europe then better also change clothes to European style (buy them there though). To be honest you're going to end up in touristic areas anyway so you'll be noticed anyway. And in those touristic areas just don't give to beggars, don't sign any paper in the street, beware roms, scammers, watch your pockets, etc. Touristic areas are not like the real life areas. And that's also valid for local tourists.

  Athleisure has spilled over to Europe these days. Maybe not in France or Italy as much, but certainly elsewhere. Causal non-workout sneakers are totally acceptable footwear. I clopped all over Switzerland in Adidas Superstars when I was studying there, and I blended right in.

  My three shoes I've been wearing a lot (27F, I'm american , but these are what I would pack) 1) blundstone #500s, dark brown. Classic Chelsea boots, very comfortable and stylish. Can be dressed way up or way down when you need it. 2) clarks wallabees, dark brown. very large toe box, classic style, not a very typical "american" looking shoe in my estimation. 3) adidas superstars. Very 70s looking trainers, wide toe box so they're very comfortable, and they're not the standard pair of Sambas that every american is wearing rn.

  You’re gonna look like Americans 😅😂 just try not to look like Americans for the bad reasons 😅 If you really want to avoid the American look — go for something similar to business casual, smart casual. Those are rather universal for the western world. Unless you have some other cool style to go for. Don’t go for cargo pants, no ball caps, printed tees only if you’re younger, no logos on clothes, Just avoid the generic brooks etc white or off-white trainers. The ones old people wear. New Balance, Ecco, adidas street style, etc are good choices, depending on your age and overall style. And they’ll be comfortable for walking. Wearing trainers, or maybe sports style shoes is perfectly fine here, with jeans, etc. Just the street style ones, and the style depends on age (for example air Jordan’s are for younger people). Although trainers will look sort of weird if your clothes are very clean and pedantic.

  If you're expecting to walk serious distances you might look at the more casual models from hiking brands such as Lowa or Salomon. Just for around town a simple retro model from any brand (Adidas Samba?), Sketchers or even just All Stars will do fine.  To me behavior screams American more than outfit, maybe except for elderly travellers with their cruise ship tour guide wearing a baseball cap, New Balance dad sneakers and oversized kaki slacks pulled up to their armpits.

  I do not recommend On. I wore them for the past year and I thought they were seriously lacking in support, durability and overall comfort. For the price, you’re getting a decent shoe but only by virtue of it costing close to 200, imo. I have one pair of New Balances which I wear every now and then but my everyday pair of shoes are adidas ultraboosts, which I love
