[Request] What was the last version of Adobe Acrobat that DIDN'T require a subscription?
Just found this Reddit discussion which includes a lot of my anti-subscription feelings! I'm still using my old version of Acrobat 9 Pro, which I understood to be the last completely non-subscription version of Acrobat, since they started charging for upgrades starting with Acrobat 10. I've reloaded my old 9-Pro disk (now USB-stick😉) on to at least 8 successive Windows desktops and laptops, and it's worked fine for almost everything I need - mostly just generating and modifying forms and documents back and forth with MS Word, and more recently, scanning and minor editing of old documents, pics, etc. I've had a few issues dealing .pdf input from more recent versions, but have so far been able to resolve those by back-converting using Acrobat Reader - on a different machine, since they now won't allow installation of Reader and Acrobat on the same system. There's probably a simpler way, but I just set up another user on each machine and install Reader there. My big issue now is that Acrobat 9 crashes the new Dell Windows 10 laptop (my fifth, I think) I recently bought from Amazon ("Renewed"). I got the one that came with Win10 because I still can't get used to all the OS access and settings changes in Win11 - and my previous source, Costco, doesn't sell any older systems - also, the prieces on Amazon Renewed are much lower! I loaded Acrobat 9 pro from the same installation file that has worked on previous machines with Win 2000, XP, Win7, Win10 and Win11, and it seems to initialize fine. However, as soon as I try to open a file, the computer locks up and the keyboard and mouse (this one doesn't have a touch screen) don't do anything. If I reboot, everything goes ok until I try to open another file using Acrobat - and it locks up again. I've deleted and re-loaded the program several times, but the lock-ups still occur. I'm using the laptop aok for several applications now - with an old free version of Acrobat Reader (11.0.08) instead of the crashing Acrobat 9. Why won't the old reliable Acrobat 9 Pro work on this new machine? Anybody have ideas why, or better, workarounds to make it work?

Do some digging on the acrobat included license for cs6. I feel like it went to subscription before the full CSuite did? It’s been a long time and my memory is fuzzy around this. All I remember clearly is that v4 of acrobat was the last good one, circa 2001?

It's called Adobe Acrobat 2020, and you can buy it until 5/31/2025. FAQ is here https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/faq-acrobat-2020.html

At least a few years ago, you could purchase the student version of Adobe 2020 for around $130 and it was a lifetime subscription. It doesn’t have every feature but so far I haven’t run across anything I needed that it didn’t have. You also have to have a valid student email to verify and install/activate the license but you could get by signing up for one credit class and then dropping. Well worth it imo, I hate subscriptions with a passion

[Request] What was the last version of Adobe Acrobat that DIDN'T require a subscription?
I have a stand-alone Acrobat on my old PC. Possibly 15+ years old. Still have the disc and code. I’m going to try to load it on my new laptop. Back in the day you used to have to unregister and then reregister it. Im wondering if that is still required?

CS6 I think was the last, maybe around 2012. I have used PDF-XChange for years and would recommend.

[Request] What was the last version of Adobe Acrobat that DIDN'T require a subscription?
I bought a thinkpad laptop on ebay that came with the whole Adobe CS6 platform for like 200 bucks. I belive CS6 is the latest non subscription version of adobe. It's been serving me well for all of my photoshop and illustrator needs for a few years. I haven't tried this yet, but I was able to extract the serial numbers via some random software so hypothetically I should be able to install it on a new computer when the thinkpad dies.

When I went down this path last year, the 2020 version was indeed the latest version I found that didn't require a subscription. Still working fine as a standalone program.
