  I just looked up Ahnu and they are completely different now 🤔. My pair (Ahnu Montara) is about 12 years old and still going strong. I guess you have to look at other brands.

  I lived in the PNW for 10 years. I have Asolo for advanced hiking, Ahnu for urban hiking, and Merrell mocs for around town.

  Rain boots?

As such I have gone through quite a few, primarily Merrells, Keens, and Vasques. Of all of them the Ahnus have held up the best by far. Every seam is double stitched and none of the usual boot problems have happened so far. The rubber protection at the toe still looks new. The grommets are very thick and nigh unbendable. The fabric at the heel on the inside is still intact. The material at the edge of the seams has not frayed or ripped. It was mentioned that these would be used to walk across campus, which is why I am suggesting a hiking boot rather than a work boot. Because it is a hiking boot it is relatively light, very comfortable, and even breaths well. And they look good. The exterior is primarily leather and rubber, and simple enough to avoid the ultra specialized look that many running shoes and hiking boots suffer from. Best of all, they are genuinely, and I mean this, waterproof. They have remained completely dry in as much as four inches of water, and pouring rain. They survived backpacking in the Tasmanian winter which is a very very cold wet season. Best of all no gore-tex, because gore-tex doesn't work. And a huge portion of hiking boots proudly advertise it. And yet it doesn't work. Don't use it, don't support it, don't let your money fall into to the hands of the lying bastards who produce it, and then cackle at the thought of all the miserable hikers who only brought two pairs of socks, both of which are wet now, and it is 42F degrees outside, and they have forgotten what it means to have warm feet. In fact they have forgotten what feet are entirely. All they know is that there are two sodden ice cubes attached to their feet. The left one is named misery, the right despair. And those hikers have promised themselves that if it turns out that whatever is at the end of their legs is still functional after all this, they will never, ever let it near gore-tex again. TL; DR Ahnu Coburns pretty good; those responsible for gore-tex should be drowned in an ice bath because then they will know what it is like.
