  Fans with real ball barrings last far better, so start by checking that before anything else because the cheap ones just wear out too fast and you end up buying another right away... Continuous use dries out the little sleeve parts in cheap box fans and once that happens the motor starts scraping itself apart A metal endbell is worth looking for too since the plastic ones can warp from heat over time and then the rotor rubs and it all gets noisy and rough and you sit there wondering why it failed again and it is very annoying If you want something durable look at the Lasko 3723 or the Air King 9723 as they still use proper serviceable motors Avoid the newer quiet models with brushless DC boards because the electronics give up long before the rest of the fan would have

  What’s a good fan for a small room that gets extremely hot?

  You want a window fan to push hot air out of your room at a minimum. Ideally you want another to pull outside air into your room. In my experience window fans are all kinda “meh” and plastic quality wise. So take your pick from a reputable brand (Lasko). If you can’t do a window can, just know you’ll be circulating the hot air - get an Air King.

  Looking to buy a good quality box fan to have on at night

  are you planning to use the fan every night? cuz if u are then the main things to look for are reliability, noise level, and how well it moves air so it doesnt disturb your sleep for long-term use, a lot of people here recommend vintage metal fans like old GE or Toastmasters. they last forever and move serious air, but they’re loud and kind of a pain to find. air king is another good shout if you're okay spending more, they’re p loud too, but built to last for a longass time also the [hurricane classic](https://grassrouteguide.com/dp-B06XGSJ94B) is actually not bad at all cuz its pretty quiet, solid airflow, and doesn’t feel like it’s going to rattle itself apart in like a month like most of the new ones do worth every buck kinda. whatever u get just be prepared to have a couple of nightmares in the first few nights, final destination style

  What kind of fans are easy to clean, reliable, have decent airflow and are quiet? (Not talking about ceiling fans)

  I wouldn’t call it quiet. But can you get Air King near you? Maybe Dreo too

  Air King. Although look at their wire floor fans in the “92” series. It’s much more robust and BIFL than their box fan.

  Yep understood. Ignore my window fan comment. But as weird as it sounds, put a fan in the living room facing up. Air king is an excellent BIFL fan. Made to be repairable.

  This may sound counterintuitive, but you want the fan at the lowest level facing *up*. If you have a fan in the loft pointing down, you’ll just be trapping the cold air down there. Remember hot air rises, and cold air sinks. You want to pull the cold air up to mix with the warm air upstairs and create some circulation. That said, Air King moves a ton or air.
