What’s a small upgrade you made that ended up being way more impactful than expected?
Wifi enabled light bulbs, plugs, & thermostat which is then connected to Alexa and all set on its own routines. All my lamps & Christmas lights (except the ceiling disc lights) are set it and forget it. My heater/ AC shuts off during peak hours @ 5PM.

What’s a small upgrade you made that ended up being way more impactful than expected?
Smart switches for my bedroom lights and fan. Now all I have to do is open the Alexa app, say “Alexa, Goodnight” and my lights turn off and fan starts on high. No more getting out of bed to turn the lights off.

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
I do this with the smart speakers (Google/Alexa). You can ask them to add something to your shopping list. I keep one in my kitchen and as I'm cooking and use up something then I will immediately ask it to add that item to my shopping list. Then when you're at the store just pull up the list on your phone. Super convenient and easy and works great for people like me who can't remember items I need!

Alarm clocks with app control?
Get an Alexa. You can program them to do anything alarm related and they are dirt cheap. Even a second hand echo from FB marketplace will do the job for a few bucks.

Space heater with clock
I use an Alexa-compatible power strip. That way, I can also turn it with my voice from bed, and I can also double check that it's off when I'm away from home.

Do smart home items really work in long term?
My Christmas light turn on and off by themselves, due to smart plugs. So do some lamps in my home as well -set on at dusk with a specific off time. Plus, we have a device that alerts us if anyone comes up our driveway. We use Alexa all the time for reminders and as a timer, which is great when cooking multiple things. My Roomba is scheduled and what’s left to dust is minimal. My refrigerator tells me if someone didn’t close the door all the way…. The list is even lengthier, but I will stop there.

Do smart home items really work in long term?
I programmed my Alexa to turn off all the lights and the TV, then turn on the bedside light in the bedroom when I tell it goodnight.

Do smart home items really work in long term?
I have the same Alexa/Google home and smart lights since 2016. I’ve programmed the lights to turn on/off every day at certain times. That’s already 365 uses in a year. Also being able to voice control your lights without getting out of bed is nice.

What’s your best lazy-but-functional home upgrade?
Alexa and her wall plugs. She does everything for me. Turns on lights, locks the door, reminders. I really won’t buy anything electronic unless it’s Alexa enabled! Sure, Amazon listens to your life, but in my case—who cares? LOL

What’s your best lazy-but-functional home upgrade?
I like my WiFi bulbs, outlets, and switches. Everything is on a schedule (dawn/dusk/time), voice controlled (“Alexa, good night” turns off all lights), or controllable from the app (never left wondering if I closed the garage door).
