  What product category has gotten worse in quality, even at the premium level?

  I think I learned my lesson this last time when I bought an LG smart TV. It’s been maybe two years since I got it (could be just one honestly) and the software is bloated, slowing it down. I’ve deleted some apps and such to help, but I think the direction I’ll go in the future is dumb tv (ok maybe with just airplay capability if possible) and then use an Amazon Fire TV stick/device or similar to run all the multimedia. Easier and cheaper to replace a $30 fire tv stick in five years when there’s faster tech out there.

  The Best Kids' Clothes Right Now?

  LL Bean kids clothes are durable and last years. But my kids outgrow them so fast it’s hardly worth it. We usually just buy Amazon brand, Primark or Cat and Jack from Target, they tend to be more affordable then a lot of secondhand stores and they last for as long as they outgrow them - about 6 months to a year.

  Yes i have purchased from kohls and most recently amazon. There is one printed/design pair from amazon that seems to have some of tiny elastic pieces breaking loose but the solid colors are great!

  Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?

  I've had a few $20 sweaters for 5+ years, you just have to be selective. The Amazon basics or essentials cotton sweaters are well made.

  Why did we accept that security cameras need monthly fees to work properly?

  We use Amazon blink cameras that record to a USB stick via WiFi. Very convenient, easy to set up and remote access. Not overly robust as they no longer record of the WiFi router stops (power outage), and they have batteries that need to be changed about once every 6-12months

  Alarm clocks with app control?

  Sorry, I haven't updated. I got the Amazon Echo Pop!. You can disable voice purchasing and set it up with custom announcements, or even drop in at random times. Above all, I'd give it a 8/10. In the beginning I had connection issues, but it managed to fix itself. Might buy another for my husband since he sometimes forgets to set his alarms 🤭

  What's the oldest thing you still use daily that works like new?

  **Oldest item without moving parts:** I'm a chef and a lot of my daily-use mixing bowls are from the 1940s-1960s. I don't know which one is the *oldest* oldest, but probably a Fire King mixing bowl from the late 30s. **Oldest item with moving parts:** I have my great-great grandmother's rolling pin, which I'm guessing is from somewhere between 1890-1910. I generally prefer to use a tapered French rolling pin, but her standard baker's pin still works just like it would've 100+ years ago. **Oldest electrical item:** Late 1990s KitchenAid Artisan mixer. It's a little more beat up than the other items, but I bought it refurbished so it was never going to be pristine. It's still better than any KitchenAid you can buy new. **Oldest Internet-capable item:** My 1st generation Kindle Paperwhite purchased in 2012 is still going strong.

  I have a Kindle 1 that still works correctly. Have a Kindle DX 9.7 inch that is great for .cbr and .pdf files. Daily use is a Kindle Paperwhite that is over 5 years old which has a very good protective cover. I don't use the Amazon app really. Most of the ebooks I have are stored in Calibre and can just be copied over directly to the device. The best way to make a Kindle last is to use a very good quality case.

  what’s the best most inexpensive sunrise alarm clock?

  Get smart bulbs and do this with a Google Home and their "Gentle wake up" mode. Amazon Echo devices with screens also do sunrise alarms, but I'm not sure if they have a "no audible alarm" the way that Google Home can.

  PSA: Avoid Secretlab Chairs

  Their customer service is ass. Had an arm pad wear down and split open within 6 months of use at a desk that is used standing half the time, so really 3 months of use. Rather than send a new, <$10 replacement pad, they gaslit me about abusing the chair and offered a 50% coupon to purchase the replacement part, making it seem like they were doing me a favor. I eventually got the free replacement after I assured them I would never use their customer service again. Put some Amazon memory foam pads on top of that and have been fine since. Fuck that company.

  Gentle alarm clock without a subscription

  Get a google home or echo dot. Last I checked you could set what sound to use for the alarm. You could also setup a routine to gradually brighten your room, of course you’d need smart bulbs for this to work. Get a cat and feed them when you wake up, I guarantee you they will wake you (maybe not always gently) when it’s breakfast time. Plus as a bonus you now have a cat. This probably works for a doggy too, but I haven’t had a dog in 20 years.

  I assume you have internet. Buy an Amazon Echo (Alexa). It will give you any kind of alarm you want and a lot more. And it's only about $50. And you'll stop looking at clocks altogether. "Alexa, what time is it?"

  What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price?

  I have a 2015 kindle fire, and it's my prized possession. It was $30, barely used. If I could take any one item with me to a deserted island, I wouldn't even consider anything else. I tested out my friend's brand new kindle recently, and I hate everything about it, from the interface to how flimsy it feels, to how they seem completely unable to open any files they didn't pay for through Amazon. I perpetually keep my 2015 on airplane mode so it doesn't download any stupid updates, and just transfer all my free ebooks from my laptop.

  Bought a Kindle 3 in 2010. Somehow got blocked. Amazon replaced it with a Kindle 4 for free. Still going strong today.

  I have tinnitus pretty bad so I need some white noise to help me sleep. What I've found works best is pretty much any Amazon Echo (I have the original cylindrical one, but I've used others as well), SomaFM (a free music service) and DroneZone. Set up a routine to set the volume low, play the station, and then stop playing whenever you want. I don't have a subscription to anything so after you pick up the echo for $30 or whatever the rest is free. Also uses less electricity than a fan.   If you just need silverware, get the Amazon branded shit it's cheap and durable. If it's a quality set you want for aesthetics then there are other options.

  What is your current BIFL item you recommend to everyone?

  Old versions of kindle. I have a kindle paperwhite something for 15 years. ı even dropped it in water and it floated for 10 secs before I grab it while it was on. Still working as a charm. Or I am lucky maybe. I have no idea about new versions tho.

  what are your BIFL ADHD products that make life easier?

  A dry erase board in a prominent location to write down my TODO list. I use Amazon Alexa to announce all my appointments and reminders (like my daughter has to take a medication morning & night). Alexa is super loud and I don’t miss the reminder like on my phone it’s too easy to silence or scroll away from reminders.

  65" TV Recommendations

  We just bought the Amazon 65 oleg tv, so far we're happy with it. We bought it on a sale so it was 500ish. It's easy enough to use that my anti-tech husband can use it easily. The picture is amazing.

  White noise machine: A budget friendly one that makes sound that is both deep and loud enough and I can run all day and night long in my bedroom?

  I use a basic Amazon Echo with the command: “Alexa, use sleep sounds to play Brown Noise” It’s totally free and sounds similar to being on an airline flight.
