Andis Outliner is GOAT. Mine's been going strong for 15 years. Blades are easy to replace and inexpensive. Thing is a TANK. Has never cut me, unlike several other trimmers I've tried in the interim.

If your hair’s straight and you’re going short or bald, a basic Wahl or Andis clipper will do the job forever. Corded beats cordless for power and longevity. If you want full smooth, a foil shaver works better than a buzzer, but it’s optional. Start cheap, upgrade only if you feel the need.

I have a few battery operated ones, and there isn't much difference imo between the ones I have. I also have and Andis T Outliner, its a workhorse and fits everything you are looking for if you are willing to bend on the battery requirement. Its corded.

Get clippers that have exchangeable blades. They will cost more, but blade options are so broad you can change up your look as the times change. You want BIFL, buy an Andis BGR, and find out what blade will get the cut you want.

Personally, yes. But I guess that depends on how much you value convenience over longevity and performance. I have an Andis set (made in the US) that has a trimmer and a clipper. The trimmer is perfectly practical for me to travel with. It’s not much bigger than a cordless and it will certainly last longer than 5 years.

I’ve had my andis GTX T-Outliner for about 6-7 years now. I have replaced the blades twice and the plastic guards once. It’s a plug in model with plenty of power. The downside it it’s limited in guard sizes. I can only find a 4 pack and of that, I only use the two lowest guards for my beard. It is excellent at trimming up the other areas too. I might upgrade the the lithium cordless just to not have the cord to deal with anymore.

If your beard is thick, a corded clipper will get though anything. Wahl Magic Clip is what I use. Or there are cordless versions too. But I also just bought a cordless Andis slimline pro gtx for travel, detailing, and when my beard is shorter. So far so good. Much smaller than the Wahl (but less powerful).

Use what barbers use. Andis. Made in Wisconsin and excellent quality. More often than not this is what you will see in a seasoned barber’s drawer. As for a manual razor for clean shaves, look to the old school and get a dual edge safety razor. (I like soaps and whatnot from Stirling soap)

really late but i own the masters and the corded wahl senior. use them to tidy up and trim my beard when it gets too caveman-y. i deeply prefer the andis, i have a pretty thick beard and it feels like the andis is able to handheld it wayyyy faster without overheating so i haven’t looked back really. will say my corded wahl has been kicking for around a decade and the andis is new only a few years old. either way i think they will last awhile just take care of it and from time to time you replace the blades.

Funny coincidence. I own the first two and have owned them both for years. Andis makes nice magnetic clips for the Fast Feed. I feel like the fast feed has a little more power than the Magic Clip but having it cordless is super nice and it still works plugged in. As long as you keep things cleaned and oiled any of them will last forever.

Don’t forget, there’s a professional line of Wahl Clippers and a consumer line on the shelf. Why the hang up on cordless? I’m a barber and I use Lithium cordless clippers day in and day out for the last decade. Barbers don’t really even use cords anymore. Big fan of Cordless Andis Masters but that is overkill in most scenarios.

If you're going to spend that kind of money, get an Andis Master. I'm a really hairy guy, and I shave my head every morning. I've bought several of the Wahl clippers over the last 20 years, and the Andis as outlasted them all by years and counting.

Can’t go wrong with Pro models of Wahl, high end andis and babyliss pro. Panasonic and Phillips norelco are also good but i wouldn’t put them in BIFL. Depends on what you’re going for? Hair styling or buzzing yourself bald? Source: 15 year member of the bald brotherhood.

For barbers specifically its the Andis Masters you’re looking for. But i honestly dont recommend them for self use. If you are slow and still learn the machine can easily get too hot to hold. Its a nice quick pace machine that barbers like to keep on hand, but rare use on multiple clients in a row. They make for really clean fade transitions compared to other brands and models

I’ve been using an andis T-Edger for several years with their comb set. It cuts very well and can get into some fine detail work. I do wish it had more comb lengths to fine tune the beard a bit.
