Can these sneakers be refurbished or are they too far gone?
If you can find a pair in a similar style with light or neutral colors, you can paint them. I paint sneakers all the time. I’ve had good luck with Angelus brand paint for leather. I use it on canvas as well, I just mix it with a little water, fabric softener, or fabric medium. I usually treat them with a waterproofing spray like Scotchguard afterward, but it depends on the shoe and where it will be worn. Regular blue painters tape can be used to mask off areas you want to protect from the paint.

Need help, dog damaged leather ottoman.
If any of the super easy fixes people have suggested don't work (buffing and waxing, etc), you'd be surprised at how easy it is to repair leather by re-finishing it. You can get leather deglazer to remove the outer finish on the leather, then re-dye it whatever color you please and apply a top finish/new wax. My cat has damaged leather couches much worse than this and I've always been able to repair it in one way or another-- can't even tell where it happened. I know Angelus leather products are easy to get in the U.S. if you're living there, but there are tons of leather brands you can use.
