Thoughts on RRL overshirts/flannels?
RRL is ok quality but not for the price. Pendleton is more of a buy it for life in my opinion. I have 4 Pendleton wool shirts and the westerly sweater and I love them all and wear them frequently. RRL doesn’t come close to the same quality. Aesthetically RRL is great, as they definitely have the rustic look, but the price detracts from that. I fairly new Canadian brand called Anian has the most amazing wool shirts, pricey yes, but buy it for life without a doubt. Definitely worth checking out.

What are the up-and-coming companies known for quality goods?
Anian. A Vancouver island company. Fully recycled wool or cotton clothing. Timeliness and really well made at a good price point. It’s been a go to of mine for a while

First BIFL clothing for around $200
Love my Anian shackets (shirt / jacket). You can dress them up or down, use them as an outside jacket if you're not living in -30 winter climate like me. I were one almost every day to work. They're very warm and well made. Canadian not US. Upcycled to boot.

Buyitforlife from Canada, what’s your favourite things made in Canada?
Thanks for this rec! Fast fashion and textile waste are things that I complain about constantly - I just bought one of their wool coats and absolutely love it!

Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?
If you think about how long a good sweater lasts, those kinds of new prices totally make sense too. Barring misfortune or mistreatment, a well-made wool sweater will sustain a decade or more of regular wear. My spouse has some cardigans that are older than that, worn regularly, and still look nearly new. Made590 brand, I believe (Australian). Same thing for well-made coats (looks at Anian here). I feel like [the explanation of the process for this other small Canadian knitwear company](https://nwknitwear.com/pages/about-us) also does a really good job of illustrating why they cost $250-350.

Wool clothes you stand by
I've been living the shirts and coats from Canadian brand Anian. Made using partially recycled wool as well. Great stuff.

Buyitforlife from Canada, what’s your favourite things made in Canada?
Some of their stuff is better than others, the felted wool overcoat is a daily wear for me and holds up fantastically in the snow - the Jericho overshirt began pilling on me after 3 wears, it's not very good. Their wool blankets are pretty thin and lower quality than my others for the same price, wouldn't recommend, but the wool socks are fantastic and affordable. The women's wool button ups are very narrow in the shoulder, too.

Buyitforlife from Canada, what’s your favourite things made in Canada?
I just bought an Anián long coat at 50% off, and oh my god, do I love it. I'm waiting on another article of clothing to arrive from them, which I'm also very excited about. I'm finally at a point in my life that I can afford to buy quality clothing for myself, so the more BIFL Canadian brands I can learn about, the better!

A list of BIFL not made in the USA
**Clothing** * Anian - Canadian - circular fashion, focused on coats and shirts/shackets (often wool-blend) but they also do accessories (hats etc). *Very* well made. Good for outdoor use in particular. *Ecologyst - Canadian - circular fashion * Northern Watters Knitwear - Canadian sweaters, cardigans (using British wool) **Household: Wool Blankets:** * MacAusland's Woollen Mills - Canadian - this is your Canadian alternative to Pendleton or Fairbault, great blankets. * Patrick King - tartan wool blankets (also kilts etc) - these are denser weaves that are great for keeping a draft off * Anian - Canadian - more known for their clothing, but they also do wool and cotton blankets. I *highly* recommend the Agnello blankets once they restock them.

Buyitforlife from Canada, what’s your favourite things made in Canada?
I'm in pei and only found out about them recently, bought a few stainless pans and so far I'm really impressed. Probably the first "nice" cookware I've bothered with so I may be biased but I'd agree on the BIFL assessment.

I can’t upvote Anian enough. Their clothes are Top Notch! Also, as the most Canadian of purchases, Kanata knits…sweaters so warm you don’t even need your Canada Goose coat.

Cotton, Linen, Wool clothing recommendations?
For linen, check out Linen Handmade Studio (Etsy or their own website). Very high quality linen in the pieces I have and lots of dress options. I also own three GAP “boyfriend shirts” that are 100% linen and they’ve held up really well over several years now. For wool, it depends a little bit on what you’re looking for. Sweaters are a great thing to find in thrift/consignment stores. I’ll also shout out Anián, a Canadian brand that uses recycled wool, cotton and cashmere to make new pieces. I have a wool button up from them that I love, is very warm and feels very durable (I only bought it a year ago).
