Reviewing my 2025 purchases: What was actually useful vs. what is gathering dust.
Seconding the c1000 here. We don't have hurricanes here but enough wind to take down trees into power lines often enough that it felt justified. It's been great as a UPS and for camping, but the breaker did trip on it once when the power went out and my PC also shut down which kinda sucked. Not sure if that was maybe user error but 13/14 power outages were nipped in the bud by the Anker for me in 2025. It's definitely not for everyone, and they are heavy if you are a small person, but it's been a blessing.

It works for laptop, mobile, earbuds etc. Its really a good investment. Recently purchased Ugreen docking station for my home office. I really loved it. Helps clean cable management. 1 cable for my laptop that’s it everything works instantly. Charging/HDMI everything. I now no longer need to use those hanging usb c hubs 😅.

I've been using the same Anker USB cable for about 6-7 years now. I bought a new one last year thinking my old one should be ready to be replaced, but it hasn't died yet. Used daily, travel with it everywhere. I don't just stuff them in the suitcase. All my electronics have a small bag they're stored in, and that goes in my carry-on in case I need to charge in the plane.

I don’t know what you’re doing to your cables, but, uhh… don’t. What you’re describing isn’t normal. I’ve done hardware support for people that were positively Neanderthal-like to their equipment and they were still getting a minimum 18-24 months on the Anker charging cables I was keeping them in, most of them north of four years. From everything you’ve described, the only variable I can reasonably believe to be responsible for the sub-one year lifespan is the operator. Some tips: 1) Don’t fold cables. 2) Don’t coil them too tightly, keep a central core of at least 2” for thin flexible ones, or 4” for thicker heavier ones. 3) If you’re bundling them, start with a coil of no less than 4”-5”, keep the end loop diameters no less than 1” and generally let the lay of the cable determine the looping, gathering them only in the middle when using a securing loop or fastener around the bundle. The cable will let you know if you’re trying to gather it too tightly. If you’re feeling resistance, back off!!! 4) Don’t leave cables plugged in to your devices when stowing your devices. They can get crammed into all kinds of weird positions that way, not to mention putting strain on charging ports. 5) Don’t throw cables loose into your bag or cram them into your pockets when you’re done with them, even if you’re in a hurry. Coil or bundle them appropriately and tuck them into a pocket or safe area in the bag. This will prevent other contents from mashing them about and getting them caught in stuff. 6) Don’t go fishing blindly in a bag or cubby or stowage area for a cable and then yank it out by its end to retrieve it. You have no idea what it might be tangled in or looped under. Locate it, remove anything that’s trapping or entangling it, and then remove it freely and carefully. 7) Don’t lift your device by its charging cord, no matter how tempting. Don’t leave your device positioned in such a way that it’s going to slip and fall while plugged in and end up dangling from the cord. Charging cords are not intended to be load-bearing! 8) Keep charging cords in dedicated high-use areas so that you’re not constantly exercising and plug cycling the same one cord repeatedly. Car charger? Cord. Home charger in kitchen? Cord. Home charger in bedroom? Cord. Home charger in tv room? Cord. Charger in office? Cord. Travel cord for day bag? Cord. Travel cord for overnight bag? Cord. Remember: Flexing a cable breaks it down over time, and while normal flexion is expected, excess flexion accelerates aging rapidly. Avoid unnecessary cable flexing by thinking things through. Cords aren’t expensive, even the good ones from brands like Anker, and a modicum of care and forethought will go a long way in keeping them happy and functional. (And plus also, do skip the official Apple-brand cables… they’re flimsy and overpriced for what you get. Even gentle users see high failure rates on the official cables.) Hopefully some of the information here will shed some light on best practices that you might not have previously considered. Good luck!

Anker q20i. My teenager doesn't take them off, apart from to shower. Original bought Sept 2023 & just replaced as she's managed to crack them. Battery life still good, headband ok, ear pads tatty but for the price & we got 2 years out of them I've replaced with the same! Usually we were replacing them after a few months.

ive found anker to be very reliable after using their products for over a decade. in reviews ive seen one or two cases of their cables dying within months but their warranties are longer than that. when i had a galaxy s9+ i used an anker charging cable and brick the entire time, i ran that phone into the ground and both anker products outlived it. the cable did eventually die off a few years later but i still use the brick to this day.

I have a Anker C1000 and Bp1000 expansion battery, love it, but wish I would have learned that you can rig up a standard cheaper 100ah12v lifepo4 battery to run as a spare as well through the solar input. Panel wise i picked up an off brand on Amazon with good reviews, I use it and the C1000 for camping out of my truck. Worth every penny

The U4 especially punches way above its weight for the price Just wanted to add that some of the newer Anker Soundcore speakers actually have decent build quality if OP wants something more portable, but yeah you're spot on about most combo units being hot garbage. If you’re looking for quality v price, I would be investigating wired headphones. - Grado SR60 (open back) - Sennheiser HD280 (closed back) Those are gonna be your best bet for sound quality and price. If you are looking for wireless and ANC, your choices under $100 are gonna be notably worse, audio quality-wise. Thats just the nature of that price point. Headphones for sensitive friend
I think anyone being to hear them probably depends on how high you have the volume, like any other headphones. I've got Anker open ear ones that I use at work, and they don't carry at all. Even off my ears, just laying on my desk, I can't hear anything. I do keep them as low as the volume goes, because that's still loud enough for me. And yes, I've checked with my co-workers if they can hear them. This isn't just me deciding it's fine.

I use Anker soundcore life p3s, ive had them for over a year and I use them all day in a noisy shop. They have good sound quality, decent noise cancellation, very comfy, and the battery is still going strong. Lasts like 2-3 days on a single charge. They have newer models now too which might be even better.

Battery life (number of charges) goes down a lot if you let the charge go below 20% charge. I recently bought some Anker Soundcore wireless earbuds and they warn you when the charge gets to 20%. Also, charging to 80% improves battery life but I don't think you can control that as the earbuds will charge automatically when they're in the charging case.

I’ve had my anker power bank since 2016, it is my everyday carry and has travelled many places with me. There is a tiny chip on one corner, but other than that it works amazing. Nice grab on the Anker. I've probably gone through 20+ power bank purchases over the years and those are one of the few that actually hold up.I do most of my shopping on ebay these days. Bought probably 15 vintage watches in the last year alone and the quality still blows my mind. I run everything through ubuyfirst now because it lets me compare multiple listings side by side (pics included) and shows the real total cost.

Anker. Its a specific line thats getting recalled and the others are fine. Many people are using them for years. I have about 15 scattered around the house, bags and family, all of them fine, some over 5 years old. The fact that you hear this all over the internet is a sign of how responsible they are with those issues. You wont have that with random brands. I personally do stick with them.

Anker recalled a bank I bought in 2016 that was still working fine. They gave me the option to get a replacement or a gift card. I chose the gift card because I wanted a wireless bank. They make great banks, cables, hubs and accessories. I’ve only ever had one product from them fail, it was a cable I used multiple times a day in the car for years.

I have charges from a number of different companies that have lasted well over that even when carried in my bag everyday. I would say five or six years is pretty standard. I would recommend moving away from anything that involves magsafe or any wireless charging. You're going to lose a lot of that energy to the inefficiency of transferring it back to your phone with wireless charging. Plugging in means that you'll be able to carry a smaller battery , in a more efficient system, that produces less heat, with more established technology that will last longer. Most of my batteries these days are made by Anker.

Anker stuff is usually ok. Battery tech won't last that long, especially if the cells are already low quality to begin with. Wireless charging also generates a lot of heat so that's probably not good for battery life. I think the best portable long-term solution is to buy one of those water bottle sized laptop battery packs, and charge wired while keeping the power bank between 20-80% charge.

I've been using Chinese phones since 2016. I only had OnePlus devices. For two years now I have been using the one plus 12. Prior to this I had the one plus 7 pro. Before this one plus 4 or something. I kid you not this phone is usable 5+ years. Besides the fact that it is Chinese and they spy on you (fu... them for that by the way). I like the device, android is best, everything still functions etc. This current one I have, the 12 version is really good. Battery life is awesome, charges insanely fast and lower cost than the iphone. With the price difference compared to iphone, I bought an anker 737 for travel, 24k ma, I get 4 charges of my phone. Anker is also an extremely good brand. I got also an anker powerhouse 250 kw for my laptop, although the 737 can also charge a 60w laptop no prob. Lastly I bought an anker solix for camping. My advice, avoid iphone, buy cheaper by reputable brand phones and get anker batteries.

Been using an Anker MagGo for like 18 months and it's solid. Magnets still snap on hard, battery hasn't shit the bed yet. The aluminum ones definitely last longer than plastic crap less prone to warping when they heat up.

Absolutely love my Anker Soundbud Slims!! My review is the same as yours. They're good quality, durable, and an incredible value for the price. The earbuds are really small and fit me perfectly, plus they're super light. The magnets helped to never lose them. I paid about $40 around 2018. After using them for several hours every day, the battery just recently stopped holding a full charge. Sadly, I'm looking for a replacement now, and am bummed that they don't make them anymore.

I own AirPods, AirPod Max, and Skull Candy (another brand that makes wired ones like the Ankers, but I don’t like my pair at all), yet these cheap-o earbuds are what I reach for whenever I go outside. Charge life is great, sound is sufficient for my needs, and they have little magnets in the buds that allow you to connect the buds together to loop it around your neck. I’ve had them since 2019 and they still work and charge as well as when I got them.

Their higher spec cables like the Thunderbolts are OK and I assume the 240w is a bit better but my personal experience from buying and using lots of Apple cables over the years is that they are mediocre quality and terrible value. Especially if they’re cycled and coiled frequently, I stopped using them in my travel kit because they would fray at the connector and replaced all mine with Anker braided cables which have held up much better plus they coil and lay better and doing get the goopy/sticky rotting rubber thing all the Apple cables develop.

Get something at least 10k mah, something that has magsafe and also a built in cable as well. Something that allows pass through charging is important as well. That way you can just plug the battery into the wall and still use it to charge your devices as well as the battery bank. The anker zolo 10k magsafe is what I use for everything. If you don’t have a magsafe phone you can get a case that allows it for most phones.

First that one is not BIFL, it looks rather cheap. Some high quality ones are able to maintain full power on all their outputs (USB A). USB C ones will usually split the full power based on what it’s connected to them. Even high quality ones will fail after a few years due to the harsh conditions of being in a car. It’s very hard to find a car charger with more than 2 usb A ports, I would recommend getting an Anker one. I have one of these https://a.co/d/1FGEoGh but I haven’t used it much, based on specs it is able to go full power on all 4 ports and has good reviews.

Ankers ANC headphones function just as well as the ones from Bose and Sony IMO, at a cheaper price, and without Alexa listening in on you 24/7. You're not going to get them because they cost half of what you're trying to spend, but they're my recommendation.

I bought a the "100" watt cords so I never have to think about whether or not I fast charge my laptop or other gadget at higher wattage. Not a single issue with their cords. Never had to deal with their warranty, but I did have one of my Anker batteries get confiscated in China because of a law that had literally just been put in place as I was flying in. Sent Anker a support request to ask if it was possible to get a replacement and they sent it to me a few days later. Great support.

I don't understand, how are they breaking? Are you using the phone while it's plugged and the cable breaks from the pinch/90 degee angle? My oldest USB C cable is about 4 or 5 years old, used almost daily so that's what, over 1000 uses? Besides the cable being not white anymore, it functions almost like brand new (I have another one brand new, of the same kind and it's almost-almost identical, the old one just has more wiggle but nothing extreme). Anker, Ugreen and pretty much the cables that come with the phones are top-notch quality. Gas station or supermarket brands are THE worst. I had a brand-new aliexpress cable that just didn't work, others worked only in a certain orientation (so I had to unplug, rotate 180 and plug again, that's not ok).

Anker - angled cables- like an L shape. They plug in and you can rest them on your leg or whatever and not bend the cord- this has made my cords last 4 times longer than then did before. I didn’t bend them constantly or anything but that does seem to be where they break first because that is where we plug them in and such there is just more wear there.

Make sure you look at their bend span. Some of the cheaper ones may only have 12k bend span; you want at least 20k. Some of the best ones from Anker go up to I believe 35k currently. I try to go for Powerline+ III if it’s available or go for II. The + means it’s braided and those are generally better than non braided. However if choosing between a Powerline+ II and a non + III, I would go with the III. Generally Amazon will have better prices than Anker direct or in store like at a target

Anker. Anker. Anker. For me, they usually last about two years. But, they have never denied a warranty claim for me. I think I bought my first Anker back in 2018 and have never had to buy a new one (exceptions apply). When it splits I hit them up and they send a replacement. Technically, they even replaced lost ones. Lost items are not specifically covered, but I put in a claim as damaged and sent a picture of an older split cord and it worked. Exception: I have bought more cables for around the house. I also had to get all new ones when I made the jump to usb-c. TLDR: Anker is technically buy it for life due to amazing warranties. They also last longer/charge faster than any other brand.

Anker. You can help by buying some heat shrink tubing and slipping about 6 inches of it on each end. Then use a hair dryer to shrink it. That will give it some extra strength. I always do that to my Apple cords. It’s the only way to keep them from falling apart.

I'm a HEAVY power bank user, I use the Anker version of what you are showing in the image, and while these magsafe power banks do have the benefit of not having their USB C port wear out as fast since you only plug in when charging in a controlled environment, to call them BIFL is a stretch. These small batter packs are designed for 300-500 charge cycles, I'm typically getting just under 2yrs out of them since I use them daily, I have 2 on rotation all the time. So don't stress too much on is it BIFL, a cheap/low quality one is going to be 100-300 uses, and the high quality ones are 300-500 uses ( a use being full 90% drain)

The standing desk, and a wobble board. I thought the wobble board was BS, but it actually makes standing in one place for a long periods of time very comfortable. A MX ergo mouse by Logitech if you get hand pain. It helps me by not moving my wrist back and forth all day and the angle it sits at is more natural. Also for the natural angle, a split and angled keyboard by Kinesis. Anker headset because I am on meetings all day. The best part is being able to flip the mic up to mute it so I don't have to look for a mute button every 5 minutes.

Don't do that. Tall table lamp behind monitors to wash light across the wall behind screens to reduce contrast. Comfort Zone USB desk fan. Anker *powered* USB hub. Small foot stool. You can never have too many coasters. Plenty of charge cords. Spares.

IKEA household items last super well and are affordable. I still use the cheap pots and pans, dishes, blankets and duvet covers almost 15 years later. They all work like new. If you can swing it, a handheld vac is great too, black and decker works great. Other random ones: - highlighters (midliners), power banks and extra charging cords (anker is great), - living: multifunctional items, don’t go over board, get to know yours space and then buy. One thing though always buy a new mattress protector when changing dorms(cheap one of Amazon with a terry cloth surface works)

Disaster preparedness that actually is useful
I bought an Anker solex (or something) system. It's about the size of toaster and holds several phones worth of power, could run a fridge for like 4 hours, etc. Bought it because it can charge normally, from a car lighter jack and I bought two solar panels that work as well. Probably not bifl, but we got it to power our sump pump in an emergency and our daughter is type one diabetic, so it can power her glucose monitoring devices essentially forever. There are bigger ones, systems you can backup your home with, etc. Seems like an industry that's time has come, although I'm sure batteries are the big issue just like electric cars, etc Still, one less thing to worry about. Was about $600 cdn including shipping and panels.

How would you repair these headphones?
I don't have these but I have a pair of Anker noise cancelling headphones where the plastic started cracking out and i just wrapped those sections very tightly with electrical tape and that's held together for years so far. It's a lot more flexible than duct tape and stretches so you can pull it nice and tight.

I LOVE the soundcore by Anker Aerofit Pro buds. I have tried so many earbuds through the years and I highly prefer these over the ear ones to any I've ever used. The sound quality is awesome and they have never fallen unintentionally (with the exception of one coming off occasionally when pulling a shirt off over my head). The battery lasts forever. And they are so comfortable that both I and my husband have had to feel our ears to check whether we were still wearing them. 😅

For cords: Anker Powerline II. Best cables/lifetime warranty I've ever used. For chargers take a look at the Anker Desktop charger: 112 watts via 3 USB-A and 3 USB-C ports. I own 2 older models and they work well. Not quite the wattage you may want but it charges a Macbook Air just fine.

I had old (maybe 10 year or more) 5 ports Anker - going strong, and zero complains. The new 65W GaN I got a few years ago - goes too warm, and has bad balance that makes it drop out of wall socket. The new 67W seems shorter and wider - so at least should have fixed the second problem.

Anker vertical mouse has been a life saver for trigger finger problems caused by touchpad use. It’s incredibly natural to use and I honestly believe it should be the default design shape for a mouse used at a desk. I love this thing! The only shortcoming is that it’s a little awkward if held from above like a standing desk or kiosk position.

I tend to carry one from room to room, and then forget where I put it, so I’ll just find the closest one. I've just switched to a coop cooling pillow with tencel sheets from qe linen and it's been a huge difference. I was replacing (likely polyester) and it's made a huge difference in regulating sleep temperature. I also swapped out the old duvet cover for a cotton one (also qe linen). New matress is in the plans but that i need in person and want to choose a bedframe first. I've also been using ankor a20 sleepbuds. Between the buds and the more adjustable pillow (i removed some fill) I am sleeping much deeper which helps alot the next day.

solar charged powerbanks -worth the hype?
Unfortunatley its pretty difficult to get one of their powerstations that I want in my country. I had a look around at was available and they were all Li-ion based powerstations from brands I didn't recognise or oversized battery banks . Given that it would probably be stored for long periods of time and the volatility of that large a pack of Li-ion batteries if damaged, I'd much prefer a LiFePO4 based battery system. As for other anker products, I've a couple of anker cables and chargers and I'm quite impressed with their quality. I got my whole family some of their USB car chargers almost a decade ago. All 4 are still being used regularily, which is slightly better than the average of a couple of months I got out of the overpriced gas station ones.

Earplugs For Sleeping
Loops are surprisingly comfortable for sleeping. I like them better than foam. They are not quite as effective, but they are more comfortable, which matters a lot for sleep. And you can wash them and use them for years, probably just until you lose them. The only thing that I found better than the loops are sleep earbuds (I use anker), which are very expensive, but the white noise really helps me. I am 100% sure they are not bifl though.

Vevor, oddly enough everything I've gotten from them has been solid. Knipex products have been great aswell, but generally too pricey for what they are. Dixxon makes solid flannels, but they're also just way too expensive for what they are. Anker makes pretty decent electronics, but they don't sell parts for any of the things I've grabbed. Next Level apparel makes pretty decent shirts (they hold up to battery acid, welding sparks, normal sparks, and general wear) Carthartt is still alright for pants, if you buy directly from the website. Otherwise, everything else I've found has been trash. Timberland and brunt have proven pretty decent shoe wise. I really wanted to like wolverine, but I can't get their boots to last more than 5 months. Smith still makes decent helmets, but I prefer the petzl ones. They're fall protection equipment is also pretty solid. Benchmade for pocket knife, but victorinox makes very nice kitchen knives. (Their Swiss army knives are meh to be fair) Cat still makes half decent equipment, but their generators are garbage. Kohler generators are way better. Speaking of, kohler faucets are dogshit, but their toilets are still half decent.

Support is good if you do have a problem. I bought an Anker powerstrip that had electrical outlets, USB-C, and USB-A ports. Some of the ports quit working after end-of-warranty. They wanted to diagnose the problem and weren’t concerned about the warranty. They sent me a new powerstrip and a prepaid box to return the old one. I thought I’d never hear from them again. Months later they sent me another powerstrip and a letter explaining that they identified the issue and I could dispose of the first replacement. I was impressed with the extra effort on a $20 item.

I feel one reason for deteriorating quality is the market need to keep prices relatively stable. I’ve been buying the same cable every couple years from Anker. The prices haven’t moved much but the quality has shifted. And that’s fair. 10 bucks in 2010 were very different from 10 bucks now. If they keep quality, the prices won’t be affordable. So I get it. That said: I’ll caveat my answer by saying here’s the brands that do high enough quality for the price they charge. Anker. Nike for socks. Uniqlo for their basic cotton T’s. MacBooks. Yeti.

I love my anker cables. I am using one I have had for 5 years as we speak. You can see the colored wires insulation at the usb a side but I will use this thing until it dies.

I've had great luck with the braided nimble, anker and ikea braided cables for work/home use. I've had PVC ones that break apart after very light usage within 1 year from Amazon so I typically make sure the sheathing is very solid. Can't go wrong with the original apple cable though. Those things really last quite a bit and can take a lot of abuse.

BIFL stand up desk/laptop adjustable height stand for desk?
Check out the wireless anker mouse on Amazon. They're amazing. I have 3 and they work great. I also have the new style Microsoft wireless ergo keyboard setup on my veridesk. No complaints really.
