The ones that infuriated me the most were YNAB and the Anova app. Luckily, the Anova I bought has manual controls for this exact reason and is the reason we went with it over the Juel at the time. But you used to be able to still access the recipes/cook temps from the app. Recently you can't even open it without a subscription so I just have to look things up on the internet YNAB (or You Need a Budget) was particularly infuriating because a lot of the original marketing was an example of how you should track how much you're spending on recurring monthly expenses and decide if you should still have them. I had purchased the full price version on Steam in like ...2008. So when they moved to the subscription model I lost access to a few features like cloud storage. But I could redownload the base software and manually move my data over if I had to change computers. Now they've removed it from the Steam library entirely so I'm probably going to have to get a new solution when this PC kicks the bucket.

What are some items under $500 you’ve made so far that changed your life?
My husband plays a couple of rounds of video games while the sous vide is going. We have an Anova sous vide system and it's not really a lot of gear. Takes up almost as much space as my KitchenAid when it's in use so I guess that would be an issue for people without a lot of space.
