Not Corelle Please! Chip-free dinnerware
I have owned my Arabia of Finland stoneware since 1990 and it is virtually chip free--meaning out of a service for 12 I believe that one bowl has a chip. You can often find vintage patterns on eBay; I’m not sure what is currently available.

What's the most expensive item you've bought with the intention of keeping it for life?
A dinner set of Arabiaware Ruska. I bought it in 1981, use it every day and it's still looking as good as new (except for little chips on 2 plates). My other BIFL worth mentioning is Jensen Prism cutlery (flatware) from the 60's but I inherited that. Both were expensive at the time but will last multiple lifetimes.
