Looking for a couch that is actually worth the money- why does it feel impossible?
i completely get where you're coming from - comfort is everything when you're dealing with chronic stuff. for that plush sink-in feel you're describing, check out la-z-boy's plushier models (not all are the recliner style). their deep seating sectionals with down-blend cushions are what you're after. also, room & board has some great velvet options that are super soft and hold up well. if you're near an arhaus, their deep seating sofas are incredible but might stretch your budget. one tip: look for '8-way hand-tied' construction - it's a sign of quality that lasts. and always test in person if you can, especially for that 'sink-in' feel.

Please help! Which couch (store)
Check out Bassett and Arhaus. Many are constructed in North Carolina and are great quality. We just bought a sectional from Bassett for about $6k after having a similar one for many years that held up super well.

Please help! Which couch (store)
You are not alone. We are all here because we have been searching, fruitlessly and tirelessly, for a quality couch. Don't be like me and do years of research only to end up with something that is too firm but looks pretty. If you don't mind a slightly more traditional or vintage look, learn the top quality brands and pounce on them on facebook marketplace. Ethan Allen, CR Laine, Rowe, anything Italian, most Room and Board or Arhaus models. Expand your radius to search in the wealthier parts of town. You can get top quality pieces in really good condition for a fraction of the price. And you can make any style work with the right design around it. An English roll-arm can look really cool with a more modern rug and coffee table. Pay close attention to dimensions - the seat depth and height is important for how it will sit. Tell them you want to come see it before making an offer. People will negotiate bc they're just happy you're getting it out of their space. If it's a vintage couch that looks almost new, chances are that thing is built to last.

Couch Suggestion - Anyone Know How Arhaus is?
Super late to this thread. I have an Arhaus sofa and I'm a pretty big dude (250-290lb over this period). It's so damn comfortable. I go to other people's homes and I'm sometimes thinking "WTF is this I'm sitting on?!?" The cushions have lasted so long with me sitting in the same spot for hours daily for the last 8 or so years. It shows but not a lot. We've had kids spill ketchup on it, visitors spill wine and you can't tell. I often plop on the couch all the time and often fall on the thing with my full weight. This thing has made it 7 years (a year ago) before starting to show the wear. This began with the supports in the frame snapping. It started snapping about a year ago, in a few places. The couch was still usable so we never pursued the warranty. We then called Arhaus and they sent out a repair person who fixed the spots where he could since they had him scheduled for max 2h. He said the fix for the remainder will require 3 or so hours and that we'll need to ask Arhaus to schedule that as another visit. While he was doing his repairs (he's an independent contractor who is a furniture specialized repair person with a mechanical engineering degree), he said he never sees couches this solidly made. He said that couches typically are not this structurally solid. Called Arhaus and because they no longer carry the fabric, they're going to have us select a new couch with a credit for the original couch purchase amount. To sum it up: - bought a $5k sectional for $3.5k - it lasted 8 or so years (7+1) - the company is standing behind it and replacing it giving us a $3.5k credit Most comfortable couch I've ever had, most resilient cushions I've ever sat on, most solidly constructed couch I've seen, most durable and stain resistant fabric I've seen. If you have a large home, your sofas will all get used differently. I'd buy an Arhaus for the most used one(s). If you have a small home and only plan on having one sofa for entertaining, tv watching, lounging, etc, Arhaus totally is worth it. You have to be willing to wait for them to build your couch, and keep tabs on them throughout the process. For example, the replacement couch is going to take 12 weeks to get built and delivered. Throughout the process, their people have routinely forgotten to close the loop, which is irritating. That varies across locations.

Best, comfortable modern down- filled couch
We have an Arhaus Owen. Purchased during one of their 30% off sales. It’s been a year and we are still obsessed, most comfortable thing I think I’ve ever sat on!

I'm no good at buying good furniture. Any tips there on how to make sure I'm getting it for an affordable price while maintaining quality?
So my rule of thumb is: Spend money on what you use the most. Do not buy from companies that do not give thorough info on the materials and make of a piece. (rooms to go and Ashleys are perfect examples of not giving you information that you need, sure this couch is 100% polyester, but what is the frame made of? What kind of foam is in the seats? 0 info) Secondhand + Facebook marketplace are your friends (for the most part) If you have to buy cheaper-make sure the company is honest about construction. I mainly do this with organizational objects. (IKEA is a good example of honest construction) Focus on buying natural fabrics and other natural materials. I honestly like Crate and Barrel, Arhaus (fucking expensive), Ethan Allen West Elm, room and board, and IKEA- they are honest about construction and offer natural materials. But for any company-some items are great and some are poor. You just need to be thoroughly looking through the construction and reviews for each piece. I have yet to find a company that DOESN'T have bad reviews. Even the like old custom furniture builders from NC. They are honest in construction but still will get the shit review or so. Most of these companies will also have bad reviews for just the delivery and customer service part of the experience. If you can-before you make a purchase online, try to go to the store in person to get a feel for the fabric you want to choose and sit on that furniture or similar items. Know that the floor model will probably be dinged up or more broken in than what you will get. Most good couches have to be broken in a bit before they get really comfortable it seems. This is just the research of a person who has been trying to find a Buyitforlife couch at a reasonable price, that is also cute. Take what works for you. hope it helps and I can save you some of my own personal headaches.

Arhaus furniture - when are best sales of the year?
It’s legit. I have bought stuff from them before. Good quality! I believe they are headquartered in Canada.

Is this Arhaus bed a good decision?
I was looking at the Charlton bed as well. I have had good luck with Ethan Allen furniture in the past, but I decided to buy the St. Martin set because I liked the style better and with the sale it was a bit more reasonable. I ordered the dark brown finish because it goes better with my wood flooring. We got the bed, two dressers and two bedside tables. I hope I like it as much in person as in the photos. Thanks for taking the time to answer and good luck with your decision!
