Self Propelled Electric Snow Blower for small to large qty of snow
If gas Ariens Pro Path SS21E 21 in has some commercial level long term performance (I'm talking lasting several years with decent gas and basic to no maintenance) If electric EGO is the go to right now for battery operated the EGO SNT2112 it's got a stainless steel auger and the link i sent comes with the charger and two batteries. Just in case I'd buy 1 or 2 more batteries at 5.0AH You'd prep before the storm charging all 3 or 4. Then as you get low swap the next one in if it gets to that. Worst case after your first storm and gauging the range and usage you can return the extra batteries.

Self Propelled Electric Snow Blower for small to large qty of snow
At that price and size I'd recommend gas sadly, the "buy it for life" recommendation would be ariens s18 or equivalent toro single stage. To keep the electric runs running you'd need a second set of batteries and to swap that out making the cost peak past 1k.

What winter gear do you recommend?
You'll need two types of shovels if you own a house. I like [this one ](http://18 in. Buy in the late winter or early spring at a deep discount. Buy a good sweat wicking base layer for outdoor activities. I love my KETL ones. Lots of good options. Smartwool socks. Oxo car snow brush for a car. Bigger one needed for a big suv. Subzero 16621 ice scraper. Need it for thin ice. Don't rely on the brush for that.

What winter gear do you recommend?
I'm originally from Fargo, North Dakota and have been living in Iowa for the last 4 years so it's tough to talk specifically about New York. Being from the upper Midwest however, I'm well familiar with winter Weather. I have 2 purchases that have he's up well: Boots - I've been using the same pair of Kamik boots for about 12 years now. The boots have held up very well, although I did need to replace the laces this year. https://a.co/d/1oCU6lD Snowblower: Ariens Deluxe 28. I've had this snowblower for 12 years too. I've only had to do regular maintenance on it. Oil changes, belts, etc. Excellent snow blower. https://www.ariens.com/en-us/power-equipment/snow-products/snow-blowers/deluxe/deluxe-28-sho-rato Special mention: Kinko Mittens. I have some wear on these and they need replacing, but theyve lasted me about 8 years or so with heavy use. I could probably get another year or two out them, but holes are starting to develop. https://www.kinco.com/1929pl-l

Which snowblower will last a lifetime?
Crazy. My former brother in law lived 4 hours north of Toronto, where they frequently got multiple feet of snow at a time. Everyone up there had Ariens, wouldn't consider anything else. I have a 21 yr old Ariens that has never let me down and still runs perfectly!

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
Great question. A few answers - 1) Briggs and Riley carry-on. Got it in 2002 and the thing is bullet proof. Use it whenever I travel. Has a garment bag and can expand if needed. 2) Ariens snowblower. Bought it in 2000 and the thing is awesome. Still going strong 25 years later with regular maintenance. All steel not like the ones with a lot of plastic today. 3) Wustoff classic knife set. Got it as a Wedding gift in 1997. Still my wife’s favorite knives. 4) All-clad stainless steel set.ditto to #3. Love it.

Does anyone else feel like it's impossible to buy quality stuff anymore? Seems like every single thing I buy falls apart absurdly fast. I try to get quality stuff, but reviews are all fake, star ratings are bought... how do you avoid buying junk?
It's getting harder, mostly word of mouth and a lot of researching. My buy for life items are Ariens Snowblower. 1st 38 years, 2nd now past 15) San Antonio Shoe Company. (1st pair now past 13 years, just resoled). Salad Master Cookware (now past 38 years) Speed Queen Washer & Dryer ( now past 12 years) Hamilton Beach toaster (estate sale $8, made in 1970).

Which snowblower will last a lifetime?
Go for at least a 300+ cc motor; preferably a 400cc motor. I have used snowblowers for 40+ years and I will never buy anything but a large Ariens....they are a good balance of cost vs function. I love my 405cc Ariens that I have now; it will throw slop, ice chunks and whatever I throw at it from my gravel driveway...it will throw a full snout of snow over 50' in good conditions, perfect for wide driveways.

Which snowblower will last a lifetime?
I'm still using a 1979 Ariens snowblower that I got for free at the side of the road. The original owner ran the engine out of oil, and the engine threw a rod. I put a Honda knockoff replacement motor on it, and I've been using it for the last ten winters with no issues. It works great and is a Very solid machine.

Yamaha. They are beasts, should last a long time. If you can’t find one of those, Ariens. I had an Ariens for 10 years, bought from a non-big box store. Worked great for years, only sold it to upgrade to a larger unit.

I have an Ariens 24" Rapid Track. I have no idea if it is BILF. I have only owned it for 3 years, but it absolutely works unbelievably well in deep snow, and it is so easy to maneuver.

Which snowblower will last a lifetime?
Honda would be numero uno on my list, followed by an Ariens Deluxe model NOT from Lowe's. I've heard not good things about snowblowers with tracks vs. two wheels / tires, but nothing from personal experience. I guess tracks add a lot of complexity to the system and like anything else, tracks are something very expensive to service or replace should / when it fails. Tracks on a blower does look bad-ass, though. Now, if manufacturers could just make them so the pain doesn't chip and eventually rust, then you'd have a real king of snow.

Which snowblower will last a lifetime?
We live in one of the snowiest parts of the US, and my biggest pieces of advice are: 1. If you get more than 4-6 inches of snow at a time, absolutely do not get a single-stage machine. It will not be up to the task. You will need a two-stage! 2. All high quality machines will need maintenance every so often. If there's a local repair shop, find out what brand they do and don't work on. You don't want to be up a creek later on when you have trouble finding someone to work on your machine. 3. Honda is the gold standard. 75% of all snow throwers up here are Honda. 4. The other 25% is almost exclusively Ariens and Husqvarna. I’ve seen one Toro.

Which snowblower will last a lifetime?
None. But the top 3 are Ariens, Honda, and Toro. Ariens can probably claim the longest life, units from the 60s still in use, Honda would be next with units from the 80s, followed by Toro with 90s. Toro's main problem is that they always seem to try and reinvent the augers.

Ariens professional series. I have one that's going on 11 years with only oil changes. You'll want one that's from a focused dealer that's close to you and designed to be used by the guys you'd hire to clear the snow.

BIFL Request: Snow Blowers, does electric hold up?
There are Ariens from the 60s still in use, a bit less for Honda and Toro. I can not answer the battery units. None have been around longer than 10 years. It's more dependant on where you live, the type of snow, and how much.

BIFL Request: Snow Blowers, does electric hold up?
Ariens snowblower. Buy a size bigger than you think you need and you’ll never look back! That’s my recommendation coming from a Minnesota resident.
