Non-US-made beds (preferably Canada-made)

BIFL Bed Frame Mid-Century
I have no idea what their reputation is on this sub, but we got the Nera from Article. Solid walnut and built very well. We grabbed the dresser too and while its only been 3 years, they have held up perfectly thus far.

best sofa that will last
Article sofas are solid for the price but not bulletproof. Crate & Barrel holds up better long term if you go with performance fabric. Other good options: Joybird, Interior Define, or even Pottery Barn if budget allows.

Best solid wood furniture?
I’ve bought several pieces from plank and beam, all in the blonde finish so I can’t attest to all the trouble people are having with the wire brush finishes but mine are holding up well. I’ve done a lot of research on furniture because I don’t want particle board or MDF. Plank and beam is mainly rubber wood not pine. I really liked Article and the prices were good but they get you good on shipping if you aren’t on a main interstate ($49 if you live near a main arterial, upwards of $799 if you don’t). Had bad experiences with Pottery Barn delivery and honestly the price you pay doesn’t equal quality. Crate and Barrel have some nice pieces but again not sure if the cost is worth the quality. Restoratiin Hardware has some beautiful items but you have to have a trust fund to afford what they have. Amish is great quality but again you will pay for that quality. Wayfair and Overstock are so hit or miss I won’t even gamble on them anymore. What I did find out in my research is that even the more expensive stuff consists of some sort of wood veneer. RH has a dresser listed for almost $7,000 that consists of some oak veneer. Solid wood is heavy, expensive and would cost an arm and a leg to ship so seeing the word “veneer” shouldn’t cause a lot of wariness. Steer clear of course if you see the words “paper veneer”. Not sure if this was helpful or too much.

Sleeper sectional or regular?
I had a sectional from Article that had a very comfortable foam bed for the pullout. But also, giving up your living room to someone sleeping is very disruptive. So you probably don’t want your sleeper sofa to be so comfortable someone would overstay their welcome. We also used to host touring bands and we got some really nice cots for when people came and they would actually rave about them. Buy the couch that will be best for you every day and for the less than 10% of time your family will be there, just tell them to find a hotel or deal with what you have. Until it’s actually a nursery, you could put a bed in there. Or at least a twin daybed.
