  Ferragamo leather wallet - every single day in my pocket since 2008

  Yours is likely from Ferragamo’s stronger era; recent runs vary, so judge the build, not the logo. For new ones, look for full-grain or good calf, turned edges (not thick painted), 7-9 stitches per inch, lined bill pocket, tight corner folds, and a clean Made in Italy stamp. Keep it lean; overstuffing kills seams. Condition lightly 1-2 times per year with Bick 4 or Saphir; skip mink oil; dry pocket helps. A cobbler can re-edge paint and restitch corners. I rotate Bellroy for travel and Ashland Leather for Horween patina; Latico Leathers is my soft, organized EDC pick when I need extra pockets without bulk. If the build checks out, a new one can last, but vintage or proven makers are safer.

  Well, I’m a woman who sports a blue shell cordovan bifold wallet from Ashland Leather, so I’m not sure what you mean by “wallets for women.” Are you talking about the longer ones the size of an old checkbook that zip closed?

  A durable wallet for a woman?

  Personally I really like the wallet my husband got and am thinking of getting one myself from Ashland Leather in Chicago. I have mine in black but they have a lot more to offer. Always get compliments and honestly looks as good as the day I got it which is 10+ year ago now.   What's one item you've owned for years that's still going strong-and was totally worth the money?

  Ashland Leather Fat Herbie in Natural Shell Cordovan. Bought it in college at like 22 I think? 29 now and this thing isn’t even scratched (like you can’t see any of the past scratches) and it’s now a sweet burnt caramel color. Cordovan is dope. I’m sorry if you’ve never owned any and now go down the rabbit hole 😂

  Need a slim bifold for myself as my current wallet is out of shape

  Seconding Ashland leather. I’ve used my Ashland wallet daily since 2017, hiked with it, sweated on it, abused it and it still looks brand new. IMO paying extra for Shell Cordovan leather is worth it (shell cordovan doesn’t crease, which is why it’s so great for boots), but the other leathers they offer are also great.

  Ashland Leather out of Chicago makes great wallets, lifetime warranty so I feel confident calling it BIFL. 10 years down the road if you pop a stitch, you can have it sent off to be repaired.

  Wallet recommendations

  I have been slowly compiling a list of leather wallet makers, as recommended throughout Reddit. I'm reading reviews on different social media platforms. I have left off companies that have known issues responding to customers, always seem to have a 365 day sale, or their least expensive wallet is over $99 (like a basic card wallet). If you've had an issue with customer service with any of these, I'd be interested in hearing.   Looking for leather belt recommendations

  https://ashlandleather.com/collections/leather-belts I got one for Ashland Leather, they're local for me, in Chicago. I walked into their shop and had a mini tour. They started with some employees from Hornween (oldest tannery in the country, which is down the street from them). Quality feels awesome, and would recommend. Have had the belt for about a year, and still feels excellent, but can't comment on actual BIFL.

  [BIFL Request] does anybody own a wallet made by The Flat Head? If so, can you share your experience of their products?

  > BIFL people are pretty price-insensitive, but $500 for a wallet is * **insane** *. While that is significantly higher than normal, this wallet supposedly uses the Japanese version of shell cordovan. If that's anything like the US Horween Shell Cordovan, it's going to be expensive because (1) it only comes from two small areas from a *horse*, and (2) it takes a long time to make (it takes Horween 6 months to make). Add in Japanese craftsmanship pricing premiums, and Japanese shell cordovan is not going to be cheap. (As an example, the shell cordovan that comes from one horse is supposedly enough to make one pair of boots. That's not much. Which reminds me -- shell cordovan is also in very high demand because the fashionistas decided that shell cordovan is Very In. It's not unusual for shell cordovan shoes/boots to go for $700-$1000 on up, with occasional waiting lists of ***over a year***.) Keep in mind that wallets using Horween Shell Cordovan aren't cheap: $200-$300 and up.
