  Asus Zephyrus G14 and G16 are great for this. Upgrade the ram, add another ssd, etc. Alienware is also like this unless they changed it recently.

  +1 for wired IEMs , Shure cables and the 215s can be picked up for $70 multiple times during the year. Their 30" cable can loop through a belt loop and they stay pretty out of the way if it's under your shirt. Sound quality and replacement cables for $30 are pretty good combo. Still have my first set of 215s from 15 years ago. I'm currently rotating two pairs of Asus Cetra but I've lowered my listening hours to 8 hours a day. In 2 years span I've had to return 2 pairs and I've had my current 2 pairs for a year. I'm really tough on electronics, work in a warehouse, use them for weekend projects, and I can't sleep without them. Super light sleeper and tinnitus are my issues.

  If it was me, I would buy a mesh system that is capable of being hardwired together as multi access points. I have a hardwired ASUS AX Mini. It is awesome. Best Wifi set up I've ever had. It is getting older, but when I replace it, I will hard wire with the same install method. Netgear is a terrible company. They have fine print gotcha business policies. Most products have a 90 day warranty. After that, they will charge you to talk with a representative, saying it a tech support contract is required. They did this to me on a hardware defect. Talking to Netgear is like talking to phone scammers, they are trained to get your credit card info for BS support services.

  A big BIFL advantage of ASUS routers is that their firmware is largely based on open source code, and there are open source alternative firmware options available to add features or maintain support for older devices. While everyone else is trying harder and harder to close their system, and giving up on firmware updates for devices as soon as they can, ASUS’s openness gives me a lot of confidence for the longevity of my devices. I have 2xXD6 in a mesh with a wired backhaul and it’s been excellent. Very stable and performant (though my PCs, tv, etc are via my wired network which is always going to be better than wireless).

  I’ve been running the Asus ZenWiFi XT8 for a while now and it’s been solid. No dead zones, handles streaming and gaming without breaking a sweat, and the setup was dead simple. Plus, it gives you a decent amount of control if you’re into tweaking settings. Would totally recommend if you don’t need Wi-Fi 7 just yet.

  The top comment here says the new macbook air, although it is a strong laptop, if you dont want to break the bank and get something for half the price with the same speed/ features go for the ASUS Vivobook 15 M1502YA. I have both the new macbook air and the ASUS Vivobook and I much prefer windows lol whilst also having the same speed and features the macbook has, only downside i would say is the front camera quality is poor.

  You’ll need to look at the minimum specs for them and go from there. Might be able to find them on steam. I personally would recommend at least doubling the minimum specs if it’s doable. Always recommend getting way more ram than you think you need. I would recommend sticking with ASUS if you liked the one you had. Though it’s been a while since I bought one of theirs. I still have an ASUS laptop that’s about 6 years old and runs well. That was for school though and I gave it to my husband. I use a MacBook now. I do not game on a laptop. I build desktops and taught my husband how to build his own for gaming after the first one I built for him many moons ago.

  Honestly, there’s no single “best” laptop for everyone, depends on what you want to do. I’ve tried a bunch of these and here’s my take: If you just want the best all-around laptop and don’t mind the price, the MacBook Air 2025 (M4) is hard to beat. Battery lasts forever and it’s super fast for pretty much anything except gaming. If you’re already using iPhone or iPad, it just works better. If you game a lot, get the ASUS ROG Strix G16. It’s fast, runs cool, and the screen is really nice for games. Not the lightest thing but worth it if you care about performance. HP 17 Laptop is honestly good if you need something cheap but still powerful. Huge RAM and storage so it won’t slow down with tons of tabs open or big files. Screen isn’t full HD though, so keep that in mind. Dell Vostro 15.6" is solid for students—good build, decent price, can handle schoolwork easily. Lenovo V15 is a safe choice if you’re mostly doing office stuff, emails, docs etc. So yeah, pick based on what you actually need it for. No point spending extra on stuff you won’t use tbh.

  Does anyone else feel like it's impossible to buy quality stuff anymore? Seems like every single thing I buy falls apart absurdly fast. I try to get quality stuff, but reviews are all fake, star ratings are bought... how do you avoid buying junk?

  For phones and laptops I've found notebookcheck.net to be a really old school high quality review site. The laptop I bought on their recommendation in 2014 is still going strong, and the phone I bought last month has turned out well so far (Asus ZenFone 9).

  Asus: MB16AC Crushed it, broken bezel, smashed in aluminum housing on two corners, head and shoulders shampoo ruptured all over it. Dropped it. It’s not indestructible by any means, but it’s designed to travel in a carryon Still works great.

  Paid $918 in 2018 for an Asus flipbook laptop. Cooling issues periodically so i sometimes sit it on top of a cooling pad, but still running almost top speed today. No enhancements

  I've had a good experience so far with three Asus TufBook I bought. A little pricey, but I needed a graphics card for CAD software. My mom has a cheaper Asus model, and both have been great for the past 3+ years. We bought both through Costco, who has a great return policy.  Otherwise, I'd say MacBook. My old one from 2008 still works fine, I just only use it as a media server for music now since its OS is no longer supported, and that's a security risk to do anything much else with it.

  Any laptop with a dedicated heat sink and advanced cooling methods such as copper pipes with liquid metal is recommended. Heat destroys your components over time. This is the most important thing that most people don't think about. That's why those skinny office laptops are crap and last nothing. I don't game but only buy Asus ROG for this reason. Some of the best cooling systems on the market. Lasts forever if you use it for office stuff and average work. Bought my Strix in 2020 and it's still going STRONG.

  Low end gaming lap tops by Lenovo or Asus have worked for me. Had an Asus Republic of Gamers for 9 years. Replaced with a bottom end GPU Lenovo Legion 3 years ago. Gaming laptops tend to have memory and SSD expandability that contribute to those not being reasons to abandon an otherwise ok CPU.

I see a lot of Lenovo here but I haven't used them but relatives had bad experiences both recently and in the past. Quirky hardware/drivers, bad heat management, poorly implemented performance hardware. Built like a tank, but challenging to use. I don't like mac.

  I bought an Asus Vivobook S15 on sale for $600 and prefer it over my MacBook Air that cost twice as much. Super lightweight, awesome OLED screen and battery lasts me like half a week without charging. The biggest drawback is the ARM processor (not Intel) so a lot of games don’t run on it, but the OLED is beautiful for watching videos, especially at night in a dark room.

  I just fired up my 2016 ASUS and it still has 49% battery life and hummed right along. It was only $800 new. I use it for the occasional light duty like Internet and looking it up to my Ford Fiesta ST every year because something inevitably fails. Love that car hate Ford reliability.

  I’ve had good luck with Asus. I probably would have had good luck with Lenovo but they don’t withstand being crushed with a chair very well. I mean the computer still works fine, it’s just the display that’s very broken. So I guess there is that. I didn’t mean to let it get crushed by a chair. I was going through a lot at the time and let my room get way too messy. I couldn’t find my laptop and decided to sit down in the chair to check my desk drawers and heard a crunch as I sat down. RIP display.

  First of all, everything has a certain period and after that, it just won’t budge. So long term means how long ? 2- Look at your requirements and budget. 3- I don’t know about Lenovo but am using Asus and my plan is to use it for like 5-7 years, in which already 2 years are completed. I got an Asus TUF Gaming. I do a little bit of gaming here and there but mostly use it for my work. Being a gaming laptop, the battery sucks and I gotta keep it plugged in while using it which i was aware of while making the purchase because for me, performance mattered, so I went with it. Performance-wise, I can’t complain so far.

  Just left another comment, but I’d say for OP’s case *probably* something like an XPS 13. OP also mentioned Asus, and my experience with them has been positive, but they don’t play in the enterprise space so I’ve seen closer to dozens of them than the tens of thousands of ThinkPads I’ve seen. I wouldn’t necessarily say I have a definitive perfect answer for OP (though I do think the XPS line would be fine), but I feel strongly that ThinkPads are getting a lot of recommendations they don’t deserve based off of outdated quality, and I just don’t want them to end up confused and disappointed when they have issues like a faulty motherboard or keyboard connection issues that we see day in and day out with these things.

It won’t run all the games perfectly, but I’ve been able to play Warframe consistently with it, quite a few other games too, like war thunder, and dark souls 2 is extremely optimized.

  Thanks for letting me know Windows isn't always necessary in Comp E. As a student, I have been making it by with Arch Linux, but all the support at school is for Windows releases of the Applications. On topic, I am digging the Asus Transformer TP200. Asus claims the hinge is rated for 20,000 uses. I prefer it over a tablet (such as the surface) because I can use the bottom half to support the lid when it's sitting in my lap. I rarely go full tablet with it. (That said, performance was atrocious for the brief time it ran Windows).
