Best home air purifier brand(s)?
I had a very bad/scary lung issue happen about a year ago related to air quality, so have deep dive on this subject. Happy to chat about anything in greater detail, but I found the r/airpurifiers sub to be helpful for this. More broadly, there are 3 axes by which you want to evaluate air purifiers: * ability to block particulate: this is rated as being able to capture particulates of size PM10 and/or PM10 size particulate. Think dust, pollen, etc. HEPA filters will filter these out. Most purifiers at big box stores will do this. Blue Air, Molekule, and other common brands fall in this category. * ability to block VOCs: this is rated as being able to capture “bad smells” (i.e. very small things like smoke, bacteria/mold spores, etc). A HEPA filter will not capture these because they’re too small. You’ll need something with an activated carbon filter as well. These tend to be expensive, and are usually sold as something like “hospital grade”. Austin Air and IQAir are both well thought of, but will cost you a few hundred to replace the filters each time. * price: self-explanatory, but consider both the cost of the device as well as replacement filters. On price, most people agree Coway brand purifiers are the best, along with a DIY Corsi-Rosenthal box. Finally, the [Rtings website](https://www.rtings.com/air-purifier) does a great job scientifically evaluating the effectiveness of various purifiers, though their dataset is smaller than it is for other types of appliances they evaluate, such as TVs

I still like the Coway AirMega 200M (same as the AP-1512HH). It’s not the quietest at higher speeds, and it’s not tiny, but it moves the air and filters very well. There’s a reason it’s long been the top pick of Wirecutter. If you want some more style, the various BlueAir models, especially the Pure line are very nice and also work well. They’re a bit expensive though. If money is no object, Austin Air makes some highly regarded machines. In general, UV and ozone are gimmicks. The biggest thing to look at are the CADR ratings. Higher numbers are good, they mean the unit is delivering more filtered air quicker. Always check replacement filter prices, often a good deal on a machine means they make money on selling filters.

Best HEPA Air Purifier for Home?
Austin air purifiers. The filters are expensive, but they last for five years. The machine is quiet, unless you turn it up high (which you won’t need for daily use). The machine is solidly built and should last decades. They’re a big step up in effectiveness from lower priced options.

Need Help Choosing the Best Air Purifier for Allergies, True HEPA and Quiet
Your quest for something to help with allergies is likely in vain. You cannot look for something with quiet operation as that's not a thing. You buy the unit properly sized for your space and if its silent or howls like a banshee, 0 people on the planet can state this as that's a personal metric. Austin Air is the BIFL brand, look at their warranty and filter replacement cycle.

Air purifier recommendations
I think Airdoctor would hit all your criteria. They have like a connected app that gives you all this data on your air quality and I think you can set it to automatically turn on and off on a schedule. I actually Late to the game here but I do love Austin air bedroom machine! More on the pricey side but I think it works well for my allergies! But there’s lots of options out there luckily. I actually just did a [tonnnnnn of research on air purifiers](https://www.cleanandhonest.com/blog/best-air-purifier-hepa-mold-allergies-more) recently when I was looking to upgrade to Austin air, and compiled it if it’s helpful in your search. recently as I was looking to upgrade my old purifier and I decided on Austin air bedroom machine. If that’s helpful for you in your search. It’s super powerful and has all the bells and whistles but it’s not a “smart” one. BUT the biggest pro is that you only need to change the filter every five years which is great!

I'd like to know who has a good, reliable air purifier!
There’s so many options out there now for air purifiers which is great but also like overwhelming haha. I have bad allergies and two dogs, so I really need an air purifier. But I was in your shoes not too long ago and I actually did a [ton of research on air purifiers](https://www.cleanandhonest.com/blog/best-air-purifier-hepa-mold-allergies-more)recently and compiled it, if that’s helpful for you in your search! I was looking to upgrade from my old air purifier. So imo I really like the Austin air bedroom machine. It’s really powerful, has all the bells and whistles and I think it works well for my allergies. It’s def more expensive though. If you’re looking for something cheaper, I’ve also used the leviot core 300 and felt it did make a difference even if it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles.

Good quality air purifier
There’s so many options now which is great. I’ve done a ton of research on this as I was considering upgrading my air purifier recently. If it’s helpful you can check that out here. And imo, I really like Austin air bedroom machine is you want a higher quality powerhouse with all the bells and whistles, it’s on the more pricey end though. Since your apartment is smaller, I also think you could get away with a less intense machine. I’ve also used the Leviot core 300 and I felt it made a dent for my allergies! Whichever you choose I’d go with one that has a TRUE HEPA filter, as that is what filters most of the allergens and pollens and other other nasties. Goodluck!

Are air purifiers worth it
Id say yes. If you have allergies especially! Late the game here but IMO I love the Austin air bedroom machine. It’s been a game changer and really makes a dent in my allergies. But I’ve also heard good things about IQ air as well, and also Aireox. I’ve used leviot 300 core in the past as well. I actually just did a tonnnnnnnn of research on air purifiers as well as I was considering if Austin air was the right one for me a bit ago and [put it all together here](https://www.cleanandhonest.com/blog/best-air-purifier-hepa-mold-allergies-more). Do you care about VOCs or just particulates? The best might be Austin Air and a few similarly expensive brands but that's mostly because they filter stuff like VOCs. I think dust is probably particulates. I'm not exactly an expert. If money is no object and you care mostly about particulates, it might be a matter of having multiple air purifiers. You definitely want one with a HEPA filter. If you care about VOCs, this list strikes me as reliable because it's specific and because it explains why most air purifiers are somewhat limited: https://www.mychemicalfreehouse.net/2023/01/the-5-best-activated-carbon-air-purifiers-compared.html. Personally, I've been happy with my Winix and my BlueAir, but I think the Winix is a little better and neither is quite perfect. If money is really no object, one of the expensive ones on that list will probably help but may or may not be necessary if you're only concerned about dust.

The very best one is a PM1 unit. You will have to have a commercial contractor come out and give you a personalized quotation. And once you find out the price, you will likely back off your price doesn't matter bravado as the unit will cost as much as your car. You are not asking a BIFL question, so quit trying to shoehorn it as such. An air purifier is purchased based on sq ft of use and since we don't know if you want a room or whole house done, zero people here can give you advice worth a damn. Austin Air is the hive mind BIFL unit and is a PM 2.5 AKA HEPA unit. A HEPA unit is a HEPA unit, but Austin's killer warranty and filter period puts it in the top spot.

Used Austin Air Healthmate Review
They are pretty sturdy so should work fine. Just check that it works before you buy it. Whether you have to replace the filter depends on how much the person before you used it, but a new filter essentially has the air purifier work like new. You can test the air with a good quality air monitor to see if filter needs to be replaced.

Buy It For Life Air Purifier?
I've had Austin Air Healthmate Junior for over 6 years and have changed the filter I think two times. It has preserved air quality through bad fires and continues to be at the top of many lists for good quality purifiers. It is on the cheaper end for the quality you are getting. I also appreciate that it is made of metal and not plastic. It doesn't have bells, whistles, and smart features, so there are fewer things to break down. Highly recommend for a no frills, super quality air purifier.

Best air purifier/filter?
I am surprised no one mentioned Austin Air. They seem to have a lot of government contracts, or at least their website says so. To boot, they have done a lot of third party testing (or so they say). Consumer Reports doesn't mention then at all. Seems sad. Cons: super pricey and for Canadian, with the crappy foreign exchange, it's even more expensive. Pros: Brought one 10 years ago and still running strong. Need replacement filters every 5 years.
