  Mattress help! Why is this so hard? Haha

  I went down the r/mattress rabbit hole and ultimately still went to a mattress firm and Raymour and Flanigan to try out different brands to double check the ones I wanted. Ultimately settled on an Avocado Green Firm. I reached this conclusion because I knew I wanted latex as a back sleeper and never liked ultra plush mattress. I also run hot. These factors basically pushed me away from foam mattresses. There were a ton of brands similar to them but I rather not deal with exchanges so went in person to try out.

  First House - Recommended Purchases

  Consumer reports is pretty spot-on for mattress reviews. I picked up an Avocado mattress based on their recommendation for models that work best for people with larger frames. 7 years later it still delivers. With that said, don't overlook going second hand. I've scoured Facebook marketplace and found some really nice hardwood furniture that I prize over anything I've bought new.

  Best affordable mattress: which one should I buy?

  If there is one thing you don't go cheap on is a mattress! I know its a mattress salesmen pitch but it is true...Don't skimp on something you will be using 1/3 of your time and which has a multitude of impacts on your health. First you need to determine your predominant sleep position for firmness. Don't go all memory foam unless its a tempurpedic, and those are expensive. On the budget friendly side stick with combination of memory foam and springs, I can honestly recommend Brooklyn Bedding , I had the Auorora Luxe and I got the best sleep ever as a side/back sleeper who suffered from shoulder and back pain. Helix is their upscale brand and equally good with more premium materials. When we upgraded to a king size bed, we went with organic latex from Avocado.The good thing about the internet only vendors is long trial periods and no interest payment plans if you cant unload a few thousand on the spot. Costco is another viable option with their forever return policy also, and they have good prices on run of the mill mattresses. Stay away from mattress and furniture stores, quality is crap and huge markups.

  I like my Avocado mattress, but to be honest it does not compare at all to my water bed. A water bed, without any hybrid stuff (like foam), was the best bed I’ve ever slept on. It does require some maintenance though and you do need a sheepskin cover on top to keep a distance between your body and the water bed vinyl itself. Nice thing is that the bed is heated.

  I’m extremely frugal about most things, but I bought my family Avocado mattresses back in 2021 after months of research and spreadsheets. We hate to travel now because it seems like we always get worse sleep than our own beds. What ultimately led me to them was that they are transparent about the materials they use for their products.

  I was blaming my mattress for sagging, so I bought a new Avocado mattress which was Consumer Reports top choice. Even with the new mattress my bed had a sag in the middle. That's when I learned that modern box springs have no springs at all and are just a flimsy wooden frame meant to add height to the bed. I got rid of the 'box spring' and have enjoyed the wonderful cozy Avocado mattress for years now. I put it directly on top of the bed slats.

  I was between Avocado and Brentwood. I ended up going with Brentwood and couldn’t be happier! I’ve had it for three years now and it still feels like it’s new, I just rotate the mattress every other month. And they come with a 25 year warranty!

  We purchased Avocado based on the reviews by Consumer Reports. 4 years now and it still feels like new. We switched prematurely from a Casper due to hot flashes on synthetic materials. I swear by our mattress, it is more comfortable than high end hotel penthouse mattresses.

  SleepOnLatex and Avocado seem to get consistent love here. Both are great for side sleepers and don’t sleep hot. Just be ready latex mattresses are heavy.

  I need a bed frame that absolutely will not move, sway, squeak, crunch, etc!
