Looking for purse recommendations!
I have a leather Tano bag I've been using for 20 years. You can find them very cheap on Mercari or Poshmark, and some leather conditioner will bring them back to life if they're dull. I have mostly owned what they used to call "crunch" leather, and it's basically indestructible. So is my Hayden Harnett from around that time, but I'm not the first owner of that one. I also have a Baggu that can take a beating, which I use in really poor weather. This year I've backed off my leather bags due to weight (I have a joint problem), so it's been getting a workout. IME the fewer pieces of hardware overall, the lower risk of damage, and if you're looking for leather make sure you get a nice, wide strap that can take weight, and is comfortable to carry for a long time.

What are your favorite niche BIFL items that are currently available?
I love baggu! I’ve had some of my baggu bags for at least five years now! I just throw them in the washer and let them air dry. I also love their packing cubes and the Dopp kit! I don’t know if they qualify as BIFL but the bags have withstood 5 years of at least weekly use and look brand new.

Love my baggu shopping bags! So sturdy, you can ball them up and shove them in a purse or glove compartment, they’re easy to clean (I throw them in the washer and let them hang dry), and they come in fun colors/prints.

On this same note, I have been using the same Baggu reusable bags for the last decade. I like to get the large ones, you can fit so much stuff and they're very, very sturdy. My favorite is the mesh, which i dont think they make anymore, but the standard material ones are great as well. They've stood up to many trips into the washer and dryer, have no holes whatsoever, and have outlasted most other bags I've bought for shopping.
