  My 50+ year old KEF BBC LS3/5A. Keeping them for at least another 50.

  Good lord, Sonos don't really sound good compared to Kef, Klipsch, Naim, Mordant short, etc. when you listen to "separates" you're in a whole new world of audio compared to Sonos. Sonos definitely produce a nice sound with soundbar for TV audio and a bright sound for remote audio but you get into listening to old KLH, KEF, B & O, numerous others and it's worlds different.

  A really nice pair of headphones will come in handy at college. Think B&O H95, Mark Levinson, or others that are not Sony or Bose

  What’s the best TV soundbar you’ve owned long-term?

  Unfortunately, audio consumer electronics are not BIFL products unless you are looking at passive speakers. Modern devices such as soundbars and WiFi speakers are designed for planned obsolescence with the average age of ~5-7 years (obviously varies with brand and price point). Plus, technology evolves and you may not want to be stuck with an outdated model for long. To answer your question, I would suggest to steer clear of Sonos due to the app and connectivity issues. The brand has taken a hit and there are better options out there. I would also avoid TV brands such as Samsung, LG, Vizio as those companies are not core audio companies. Polk, Klipsch, etc. are also mediocre at best. JBL, Bose, and Bang & Olufsen would be the three that I would recommend. You will have a large choice of models at different price points.

  I picked up a 1990 B&O Beosystem 3500 Hifi yesterday, and it’s absolutely immaculate.

  B&O were serious innovators back in the day tbh. More than just style no substance. They pioneered interconnected components with the 6000 and 8000 series in 1980—every device in the system communicates with one another so switching on any component automatically powers up the amplifier. They also developed linear tracking turntables and HX Pro, a technology so effective that Dolby Labs acquired the rights and licensed it to other manufacturers for use in their high-end tape decks. Their home automation and smart plug systems were introduced in the mid-80s—about 35 years before such technology became mainstream elsewhere. Meant your Beo remote could control your home lighting and stuff My old Beocord 8000 cassette deck features an advanced logic system that scans the tape, detects the hub rotation while playing, and accurately calculates the remaining runtime of said tape, and provides an accurate real-time tape counter. I don’t know of any other cassette deck from other manufacturers what offered that sort of thing tbh. The Becord 8000 series was an extremely expensive tape deck though it cost more wheb new than a Linn Sodeck LP12 turntable I just really appreciate the left field design.
