  Doubt there's any disadvantage to using a non-gaming headset, personally never noticed any (2.5k elo faceit) - in which case I can recommend a Beyerdynamic like DT770 Pro, comfiest headset I've ever tried (out of many) + incredible quality so far. For actual "gaming" headsets, the company AceZone is a very popular and credited brand, perhaps industry standard at this point.

  Beyerdynamic dt770 is the goat. The model has been available for a long time, and even if it does break, there are original parts available to fix it. Or if you are on a budget, you can buy 3rd party parts.

  Beyer dynamics - as many said here before. I have the dt990 pro since 2012 i think. Also i have the steelseries arctis wireless pro since ~5 years and its still going strong. Even the batterys.

  Yup. Next model up (DT1770) coming on 10 years daily use and still in basically as-new condition. Pretty much anything above entry level from the big names (Beyer Dynamic, Audio Technica, Sennheiser, AKG, Sony, Yamaha, Hifimann, Grado) will last decades if looked after. Leather pads too if you keep them conditioned. Lighter and more comfortable headphones (like open Audio Technicas) are more fragile but still just as durable if you are gentle. DT770 are a decent choice, DT1770s are much the same but better, AD-700X are absolutely phenomenal for the price (basically unbeatable) if you can deal with the weak bass response. I have well over 10k of various headphones over the years and the AD700s (before the X model) have been my favourite to date, as long as you are happy with no isolation and are prepared to add a sub under the desk for bass and gaming.

  Then get either a professional(non-gaming) headset, or get professional headphones and microphone(non-gaming) For example right now I have an Audient id4 mk2 interface, BeyerDynamic DT770 headphones, and a Sennheiser MKE600 mic on my desk. Free yourself of the gaming market and there's so many good choices that will last for many years. If you want a headset, get a professional headset that would be used on the job, not a gaming headset.

  Yes. Wired for Life. Had my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros since 2007. They still see 8 hours of use every workday. Replaced the earcups a couple of times because of greasy hair (but that's a *me* problem) and the slider housings with aftermarket 3d printed ones for a couple of bucks since they have a cracking problem, but other than that, they are tanks.

  Anker for wireless. Beyerdynamic and Audio Technica for wired. Koss Portapros are the only truly cheap headphones worth mentioning, and when you see them you'll understand why they've never been able to jack the price up on them despite years of praise at how they perform for their price.

  1. 99% of integrated mics are trash - go for dedicated one, like nlue snowball. 2. He may want to checkout open back headphones like panqsonic shp9500/9600, or sennhaiser hd560s - they let sorrounding sound in. 3. If he wants closeback - sony mdr 7506, sennhaiser hd280pro, or beyerdynamic dt770 are great options. If you want more reccomendations checkout r/headphoneadvice 4. I cant name one bt headphone thats built decenlty, sony xm4s are lifestyle product.

  The Sens are really nice for intimate recordings but have basically no soundstage. Any of the midrange hifimans have pretty great performance, more soundstage, but are not built nearly as well. If you're using them sitting at a desk and are careful with your things, you can't beat the value to performance ratio. Depending on the model and your preferences, hifimans are a little bright for some people. If you liked the sound of your Beyers it's probably not a problem. As far as BIFL, another set of Beyers might be your best bet.

  If he’s ok with a wired one, look into the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, 32 Ohm version. Built well, repairable. No active noise cancelling but they insulate well enough that they might work for him. The pads are also THE MOST COMFORTABLE EVER. But, cable. Whatever you do, stay away from anything by Audio Technica. They’re notorious for breaking right on yoke between earpads and headband. For earplugs, look into Mack’s Thermafit soft foam earplugs with NRR 29. I myself have small ears and they work great for me. I’m very sensitive to noise, and when needed I pair those earplugs with headphones

  I want to share some info for anyone looking to use a Beyerdynamic dt109 headset for gaming, or any beyer or similar headset for pc

  If you're intent on using the DT109 for whatever reason you can probably get an XLR5 to XLR (3 pin) adapter and use one of the XLR to USB devices to have it all just work. Double check that it would work before you buy anything though. An easier method would be to buy a headset that has a 3.5mm (or whatever) jack and whatever other features you want and then buy a usb or toslink amp. Largest selection of headphones this way, though you'll likely have get a separate micropohone.

  Depends, if you have your own office, I'd suggest some Beyerdynamic or Sennheiser that are open back. Great quality sound and you'll still hear everything even knock on the door (if music not too loud), but on the other hand everyone near you will hear everything too. And no mic, but honestly I bought a clip on mic for 10€ and it's more than enough.

  Noise cancelling headphones are usually wireless ones and those are never BIFL. At this point you'll do better in r/Headphones. My rec? Sony's XM4 or XM5 headphones. There's also Bose, if your focus is on noise cancelling ability. If you simply want a headphones that block sound and be BIFL, I'd suggest most popular **closed-back** (it's important) models from Beyerdynamics, Audio-Technica, Yamaha, and Sennheiser.

  A list of BIFL not made in the USA

  I'm following this. For headphones/audio stuff, one of the few categories where tech is BIFL, Sennheiser, Germany is not only BIFL but also way better sound than the alternatives! Meze, Romania are also built like pieces of art and their new models sound like a dream! and Beyerdynamics, Germany are the choice for indestructibility for a reason. For tools, PB Swiss and Knippex, Germany, dominate for a reason. For knives, Victorinox, Switzerland and Opinel, France are not only top notch but also super affordable, and plenty of small French manufacturers if you want something fancier. For clothes, Fjallraven, Sweden deserves the reputation it has, and I'm very happy with my stuff from Seagale, France. If price is an issue, do not understimate the higher end of the Decathlon, France catalogue, it may not be as fancy as the alternatives, but durability is not compromised! For shoes, Carmina in Spain deserves a shootout. Same as Scarpa from Italy for more practical shoes. I know tech is not BIFL but Fairphone, Netherlands makes a repairable phone, and Nokia/HMD, Finland has done some nice repairability upgrades too. Tuxedo, Germany and Slimbook, Spain also sell computers based mostly on Clevo, Taiwan designs that tend to be more repairable and upgradeable than the alternatives.

  They are on sale right now [at Guitar Center for $150] (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Beyerdynamic/DT-770-PRO-Closed-Studio-Headphones-250-Ohms.gc). And they are great. The Sony MDR7506 does have a reputation for being tougher but DT 770s sound better and are pretty well made.

  Sound engineer here. I was going to either recommend these or the Beyerdynamic dt770 - 80 ohm. Both headphones are great, but I think the Beyer's have the edge on sound quality(although if you are used to consumer headphones you might find the bass a bit weak). Both headphones have spare parts a plenty, and with maintenance should actually be BIFL.

  Beyerdynamic DT-770 have excellent isolation and sound quality for the price. The MSRP is a bit over your budget but if you look you can get them around $130-$150 shipped. Also, get the 32-ohm version if she's using it with a portable or cellphone.

  Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro's occasionally dip in price from 180 to 130$ on amazon. They are by far the most durable and best sounding headphones you can buy in this price range. There is also a cheap pair of planar magnetic headphones made by I think Fostex (80~$), which after some after market modification rank high with audiophiles (consider most planar magnetic headphones sell in the 800$+ range).

  I really like beyerdynamic DT770s, but it all depends what you're looking for? Open cans or closed, super details fidelity, or just decent all around sound? (for example, anything studio will be accurate, but "flat") Audiotechnica has some good choices too. The DT770s have spectacular sound isolation as theyre closed, I think they would be good for public transpo.
