Buy Once Cry Once items?
Honestly, if you know you won't lose it, then a nice pen from BigIDesign. They're usually around $80-$100, which isn't a lot in the world of pens, but IS a lot for the non-pen world. I have their slim bolt action pen. It'll accept over 100 different types of refills, it's milled from solid stock of several different materials. I'd have to lose it to not be able to pass it on in 50 years. I chose raw brass for the natural patina. Carry it with me daily.
