Best Carpet Cleaner Advice?
I’ve used the [Bissell Big Green Professional](https://www.reddit.com/r/VacuumsTips/comments/1puve0a/best_carpet_cleaners_quick_buying_guide/) and it’s seriously powerful, it lifts deep‑down dirt and tough stains with ease, making carpets look much cleaner even after years of use.

Carpet Cleaner Recommendations
To start, I’m NOT a carpet cleaner, just a frustrated homeowner. I didn’t like the way my machines worked so I started experimenting. I have a bissell little green pet pro and a bissell proheat2x revolution pet. The little green cleaned much better than the full sized proheat. It has these silicone type agitators and I thought that was the difference. Both were not good at sucking the cleaning solution from the carpets. Vacuums are all about water lift. Nothing else matters. Bissell doesn’t publish these numbers because they aren’t good. Then I bought a vacmaster beast wet vac for like $100. I poured ¼ cup of water in 3 different spots on the carpet. Then I used all three machines to extract their own quarter cup and measured how much liquid they pulled up. The little green was better than the proheat and the vacmaster was almost double the little green. So now I use a handheld spray bottle with bissell solution mixed in, and a silicone scrub brush from norwex, with the vacmaster. Works so much better than anything I ever got from bissell. I don’t do the whole carpet because I’ve never needed to, just for spots if and when they show up.

Finally stopped buying cheap vacuums and invested in a better one, does it actually last?
We're on year or two of our latest "pet hair removing" Bissel. Last one we had endured over a decade of use before small plastic pieces broke and it no longer held it's wheels on. They aren't absurdly expensive, they're bagless with easy to clean foam and fabric filters, have a nice cord retractor, and have exceptional pet hair removing plastic flappers/wheels/rollers. We have [this one](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LPCZ9FF), and it's acting like it'll last us another decade.

Recommend a durable vacuum cleaner
What will you primarily use it for? That changes my recommendation. Couches/light cleaning: Any decent handheld works (like Bissell, shark) Pet hair/heavy use: Look for something with >=500w, strong airflow and a tangle-resistant brush (Like Dyson V11/V15 series, Shark PowerDetect / Stratos) Mattresses: Specialized vacuum worth it (Jigoo J300 is good here) For long-term durability: Motor power matters most, but also look for washable/ replaceable HEPA filters, easy-to-service brush heads, and good heat management.

Highly recommend the Bissell Big Green carpet cleaning machine
Big Green is a beast for deep cleans. For day-to-day stuff, I use the Shark PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum just to keep debris down between shampooing sessions. It’s quick to grab and recharge, so the carpets don’t get too bad before the next full clean.

Which vacuum should I go with for an apartment that’s mostly medium pile carpet?
You’ll get a lot more suction power and durability in the $200 range, plus easier-to-clean brush rolls that won’t jam up with hair. Cheaper ones usually lose suction fast and have filters that clog constantly. The Shark Navigator or Bissell CleanView are both solid middle options that handle long hair well without feeling overpriced.

for around 200-300 you could try the Bissell proheat revolution. its rated well on Amazon and its lighter than the bissell big green so its much easier to haul around

Highly recommend the Bissell Big Green carpet cleaning machine
That’s a beast of a cleaner. I use mine for deep jobs, but between sessions, I run the Shark PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum to stay on top of crumbs and pet hair. It’s light enough for daily use and keeps carpets from getting too grimy before the next full extraction. Makes the Big Green’s results last way longer.

Best Carpet Cleaner Advice?
carpet cleaners all claim to deep clean but the real difference is suction, brush design, and how much moisture they leave behind. rentals feel powerful but usually just over-wet and make stains reappear. the bissell little green pet deluxe is clutch for fast kid/pet messes since it isolates the gross stuff in its own tank, shark stainstriker adds that dual-mix spray that reacts on the stain instead of the carpet, and the hoover smartwash handles full rooms with push-to-wash / pull-to-dry cycles that actually leave floors less soggy. i threw the ones that made sense [into one list](https://lampasul.github.io/link-redirector/?to=carpet) hope it adds value for all

Getting smells out of a vintage Jansport Backpack
The people who have said you need enzymes are correct. I had some linens that had a musty smell after being pulled out of storage. It just wouldn't go away. I finally concocted this strange mixture - enzyme heavy washing detergent (I use Tide Free & Clear Oxi), 1 oz Nature's Miracle odor removal laundry add-in, 1 scoop oxi clean, at least 1/4 cup of white vinegar, and a tsp of Bissel Pro Pet Urine Eliminator carpet cleaning concentrate. It might be overkill but it works. The carpet cleaner was a small stroke of genius born out of desperation. The smell went away and stayed away.

Can someone recommend a commercial upholstery cleaner that can do rugs and mattresses as well?
If you’re looking to buy, I’d go for a good portable extractor like a Bissell Big Green or a Rug Doctor Pro, they handle rugs, upholstery, and even mattresses pretty well. Just make sure whatever you choose has strong suction and comes with the right attachments for furniture and tighter spaces.

Recommendations for hand vacuums?
You’ll probably get better recs if you drop a bit more detail, like are you using it mostly for car messes, couch crumbs, pet hair in weird corners? Or do you need something for all-around home cleanup? That helps narrow it down way faster. But just to give you a head start, here are a few options depending on what you’re looking for: 1. For car interiors and dusty corners get [Meco eleverde](https://PromoChoice.github.io/Auth/?to=recommendations_for_hand_vacuums), it’s cordless and compact. It’s got 3 suction modes, charges pretty fast, and comes with a ton of attachments (including a floor brush and long hose). You’ll find the crevice tool and LED light especially useful for stuff like center consoles and under seats. 2. For light home use (like crumbs, furniture, daily dust) look into black+decker, has no bells and whistles but it’s pretty reliable. The nozzle rotates which helps with odd angles, and it’s light enough for regular use. Works best on small dry messes though, not meant for heavy-duty stuff. 3. For pet hair or deeper cleaning jobs, I’d suggest Bissell. It’s on the bulkier side but still handheld, and the motorized brush does a better job on upholstery. Just be ready to charge it more often if you use the turbo setting. Let me know what kind of cleanup you need it for and I can help you narrow it down further.

Can someone recommend a commercial upholstery cleaner that can do rugs and mattresses as well?
Look into a decent spray extraction machine, something like the Bissell Big Green or a Rug Doctor. They handle rugs, upholstery, and even mattresses pretty well, and if you’re cleaning semi-regularly it’s usually worth owning one over renting.

Best Carpet Cleaner Advice?
Previous home had lots of wall to wall carpet. I had a homeowner model Hoover that was ok but not great and had some issues. This current home has a carpeted lower level (pile carpet) and one upper room. I watched a bunch of Youtube videos and ended up renting the Bissell Big Green. I felt it was superior to Rug Doctor. The Bissell was SO much better than my home machine. It cleans on both the push and the pull. Easy to use. If I had more carpet I would definitely buy the Big Green. It's about $400. I really think it's worth the price. Look around for a rental - mine was from a local hardware store. I assumed it was better cared for than renting from a big box store or supermarket. We got the attachments for a few dollars more. Great for the stairs. You might like it well enough to purchase.

Ugh, the war zone carpet is too real with kids and pets, I totally get it. And those rental machines add up fast, right? I was in the same boat and just grabbed a Bissell Little Green Mini from Amazon a little while ago. It's been surprisingly good for all the pet accidents and kid spills. It's small but really pulls up the grime, and it's well within your budget. Definitely worth a look: [https://preview.sescho.com/B0DJMP6T3N/](https://preview.sescho.com/B0DJMP6T3N/) It's made a big difference for quick cleanups and even some older stains. Hope this helps you out!

Best wet/dry carpet washer
It’s more important not to saturate the carpet and get to air moving around it immediately after than getting one with a “drying” feature. Which IMO is mostly marketing garbage and doesn’t do anything. Bissell big green is the best residential cleaner you can get. Period.

What are some items under $500 you’ve made so far that changed your life?
Our Bissel Spotclean Pet Plus machine. We have two BC-mix pups who have sensitive stomachs and I am also very prone to spilling wine. That machine makes all those stains disappear without much effort and you’d never know anything was there in the first place. Love it. It was €199. Oh and our Dyson combination air filter and air conditioning unit! We love this thing and it works so well! Our house doesn’t smell like we have two dogs and all the cooking smells go away quickly too. It’s fabulous. It was €500.

Where to buy quality rugs?
Hard disagree as a pet owner with a cat that runs to the carpet to puke. Buy 100% wool rugs (check out secondhand stores and estate sales to save money) and get a good enzymatic cleaner or a small Bissell carpet cleaning machine. My 100% wool rugs clean up better than 'performance' or pet-friendly synthetic ones, and I'm willing to save up and be spendier on then because I know they will last forever. and continue looking good. There is absolutely no reason to throw a good rug in the trash.

Recs for handheld carpet cleaners?
I have a Bissell Spot Clean Pet Pro which is pretty good, although I have nothing to compare it to besides full size carpet cleaners. I watched a load of YouTube comparison videos and this one did well in all the tests. It has an attachment head which collects the dirty water so you don't have to clean the main tank out every time which is good. I squirt a spray carpet cleaner directly on the stain beforehand and just fill the machine with hot water instead of solution, as I only need a tiny bit at a time and if I leave solution in the machine it goes mouldy. My only criticism is that the standard issue brush head doesn't come apart for cleaning so mine is full of cat hair clumps and other grossness

In between buying two vacuum cleaners- help me decide!
I use a Oreck XL with the LONG red cord. It’s terrific, commercial janitors use these, lightweight and it’s definitely good on multi surfaces. Since they are commercial they’re made to run for several hours per day!! We have two cats that shed and it does the job very well. You’ll need a handheld too. For that we have a Bissell series with a rotating brush head and crevice tool. They’re for animals in homes. That’s good for furniture, corners, along baseboards and great for my cats and my cars. All in these are under ~$280 for both. And Oreck parts and bags are easily found online. Well worth the money and they last for years. These are sold to hotel housekeeping maids which I why I own one. E bay has the Oreck brand new from distributors.

Best steam mop for cleaning floors?
I picked up the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Mop last year and it quickly became a staple in my cleaning routine. I fill it with water, plug it in, and in a few minutes it heats up and is ready for use. I appreciate its lightweight design because moving it around is a breeze, and it does a solid job on both hardwood and tile floors without leaving them too wet. I like that I don't need to add chemicals, and overall it fits nicely under my 200-dollar budget while being dependable.

I expected one for Christmas. So I don’t have to get on my hands and knees again, just yesterday I ordered BISSELL PowerFresh Deluxe Hard Floor Steam Mop, 1806 I wanted something easy to use. I didn’t want attachments. It looks small and I like how you can lift it to use the brush. I had a bissel that lasted 5 years it was the slim one but my hand was tired of the water tank in the handle. It arrives in a week. I will try to come back to let you know. I also thought of getting the shark steam mop that looks similar to the pur stream.

whats a cheap reliable vacuum cleaner?
I’ve actually had a lot of luck with my bissell vacuum. Going on 7 years and only needed one hose replaced in that time. Whatever brand you choose I recommend cleaning it semi-regularly (taking it apart and wiping it all down) then replacing the filters. You will think it’s a new vacuum with how well it runs after.

After weeks of research I’ve finally settled on a vacuum
Same, I’ve had my $120 Bissel for 5 years. I busted the hose in a move (not its fault, it fell off the truck and it was honestly pretty remarkable that it only chipped the hose nozzle and everything else still worked), replaced it with a $15 part. I fully expect it to last several more years. I have a hard time imagining what miraculous features these $1000+ vacuums must have to demand those prices.
