  What have you found to be the best portable solution for vacuuming your car?

  I use a cheap black and decker handheld vacuum. it was less than $50 and quite powerful and reliable for the price. not really a BIFL item but handheld vacuums aren't really something I want to spend a lot of money on

  I didn't buy it, I inherited it from my Grandpa. A Black&Decker Dustbuster(handheld vacuum) that still works great. This thing is ~39 years old, still runs fine, the battery and charger still work fine. I retired it a couple of years ago because I don't want to break it LoL

  Can opener - manual or electric

  I personally like electric. I've been through a few of them. The new ones are junk. My husband just installed a Black and Decker spacemaker can opener that I found on Ebay. It was made in 1982 band new unused in the original box. This thing works like a champ.

Clean the filter often, get 2-3 extra filters to rotate between. Replacement batteries are easy to find and will be for a long time because they use the same battery for a lot of tools. There's a similar one that's not "pet" branded, I think the pet one just has some rubber built in to the roller.

  black and decker CM2045B it changed my life! ive posted about it before! BREWS FAST AND STRONG AND QUIET the carafe is insulated with layers of metal, so if you prime it with a fill of hot water before brewing, it keeps the coffee hot for hours. pouring mechanism also stays closed until you press the pour button, so no heat loss or spilling. its so quiet that ill forget its running and mistake the sound for a burping ladybug auto clean you put some descaler in the tank and run a cycle and it has strong brew mode!

  Beard Trimmer recommendation for adjustable length

  Breville’s good but Black and Decker’s better I feel like. Their appliances are just generally more durable cos you don’t wanna have to replace something like this in like a year tops. And its gonna get pretty frequent use so best to get something that’s gonna last. I like their flip ones cos then all sides of it are perfectly cooked, it does take a tiny bit more counter space, but honestly, not that much bigger than the usual ones. And cos they’re gonna be perfectly cooked, you won’t have to scrape any remnants or bits off of the pan thingy. Also, for \[this model\](https://GrowthGridLab.github.io/Discover/?to=looking\_for\_a\_good\_waffle), it's pretty leak proof cos the plates are like sown shut once you turn it on, again less scraping which is always a plus in my book.   Best steam mop for cleaning floors?

  I'm using Black & Deck 7 in 1 too. Works like a charm until today. My only gripe is that the water tank a bit too small and the cord a bit too short for my living room. Still looking for other alternatives but so far it seems like mine is the best so far.

  True story. Inherited a Black & Decker Food Processor that’s probably close to 40 years old from my Mom. Never recall her using it growing up and in the last five years I’ve used it once. It should last 100 years at this rate.

  What is your most unintentional BIFL item?

  I bought a Black & Decker tool kit on sale at home depot about 20 years ago, when I couldn't just grab dad's stuff for the garage any more. I use it ALL the time for both little & big projects & I've only had to charge the drill battery 3x. Ever. None of the components have ever failed. The canvas bag has a few small holes from me shoving extra tools in there, but it's surprisingly sturdy. This thing has been thrown in the back of every vehicle I've ever had, gotten dropped from good heights, had all kinds of stuff piled carelessly on top of it, schlepped to remote locations, still looks & works great. Accidental BIFL win. Was like, $65 down from $120, iirc.

  yes, but If you just want a no-nonsense coffee maker, check out the Mr. Coffee 12-Cup or even the Black+Decker ones. Super basic but get the job done without constant failures. Nothing fancy, but they last longer than you’d expect.

  Can't beat that old shit from the last century. I've got a B&D corded drill from the *late 80s* that's still turning, although it has started to put out a little ozone-smelling tang in the last year or two. That dinosaur has the old school T-chuk!

  I learned this back in the day when I bought a Porter Cable drill and realized it used the exact same battery as my trusty Black and Decker drill. The only difference was a plastic notch that prevented sharing the batteries. 30 seconds with a Dremel and all my batteries were interchangeable. When I finally wore out a battery pack, I was able to buy the cheaper battery because I knew they worked. Both drills still going strong.

  What's the most expensive item you've bought with the intention of keeping it for life?

  As I always fare---(I keep thinking I should update it before I pick it up---add it to my Ryobi (not bought for life but batteries a-plenty)) I fare GREAT but it's not that hard to use a cord and it worked great. Cut 1" thick oak, bunch of pine with it. It's a Model 7504 and the only problem I had was thinking after I used it--can I get blades for it? (you can) but it's U type blades. I was on the internet and surprised people are paying a pretty decent amount for this very unit. There's a strong fan base around USA made Black and Decker--appropriately for it's serviceability and longevity. It's nice to see when people back read a bit of each other--that all said I didn't back read you but do you have some suggestions for buy it for life that keep working for you?

  BIFL, but also BISecondhand. What are some things that everyone should keep an eye out for, but can commonly be found for cheap when preowned.

  Margaritaville Mixed Drink Maker MD3000. Got it for $100, got home and listed it for $350. Haven’t sold yet, but time will tell. Lol Also the guy threw in a Black & Decker string trimmer, hedge trimmer, and tiller for free. Just need a battery and charger! Also threw in a bunch of vintage NIB Star Wars toys!

  I read lazy and I knew I had to answer this because, same. Here's how I’d break this down based on my own experiences (and a couple of borrowed irons from overly organized friends). For heavy duty use Reliable and Rowenta steam irons are the best of the best. Reliable in particular has a model, the velocity 230IR which has this pressurized steam system that is super consistent and there are no random water spurts. It’s perfect if you’re dealing with heavy fabrics or a mountain of clothes Now if you’re more about everyday ironing like me I can suggest 3 steam irons: CHI steam iron 13102, the black+decker D3030, and the pursteam steamburst+. The CHI is lowkey luxurious. It has this titanium infused ceramic soleplate that’s really smooth. Also it has adjustable steam so you wont be blasting delicates with the same force you’d use on jeans. The black+decker allure is more no-frills. It heats up fast, doesn’t leak and just works. No complaints but it’s not particularly exciting either.   Oddly enough, some cheap shit I bought, like a $10 toaster, and $20 rice cooker from a non-name brand at Walmart or something. I have a sandwich maker from the early 1990s, and I still have the Black and Decker hand mixer from 1989 (my first marriage, one of our wedding pressents). I have some iron skillets from the 1930s that still work fine.
