  Hi I don't know if you're still interested in this topic, but it looks like an older batch of Bodum coffee mugs. Newer batches have the Bodum name on the bottom and a slightly thinner 'lip' on the top, but mug shape, dimensions and wall thickness are more a less the same.

  That’s good to hear — especially 4 years of daily use. Bodum is one of those brands that doesn’t get hyped as much, but a lot of their stuff quietly just works. I think comments like this are exactly why I wanted to start the discussion. There are electric kettles that hold up — the frustrating part is how inconsistent the category can be overall. Out of curiosity, have you noticed any changes over time (slower boil, button feel, thermostat quirks), or has it basically stayed the same since day one?

  I have a Bodium stainless electric gooseneck and no problems with it. It’s been going strong for four years now. It’s small, but puts out a boil in 2min. It’s enough for me and my French press for the fancy coffee and teas.

  With a new style of water bottle popping up every year, Which one have you stuck with?

  What do you need the newest and greatest for? Just be a few generations behind and replace it if it breaks with the next thing. I'm still using my Bodum travel mug from like 2012 for warm drinks and my Nalgene for water, and when that breaks it's on to Hydroflask, and then Yeti mugs, and then those goofy Stanley cups, and if I'm still alive then I've no doubt they'll have made many exciting new products I can buy.

  That looks solid but honestly for that price you might wanna check out the Bodum ones - they're pretty bulletproof and you can usually find them cheaper. The metal ones are way less likely to break than glass, learned that the hard way lol

  I have a stainless steel french press that's double-walled/insulated. Not a piece of glass or plastic on it. I bought it in 2015, I haven't even needed to replace the screen yet. I used to have the traditional glass bodum but I'll never go back.

  I’ve gifted assorted bags of whole spices from Penzey’s along with a cheap Bodum blade grinder. I include a printed copy of my favorite Garam Masala. Grinding fresh spice blends is fun and tastes amazing.

  There are several BIFL options when it comes to coffee. They all depend on your coffee taste expectations and your budget. Here's a list of options: * Espresso - Gaggia Classic Pro, Rancillio Silvia, Lelit Bianca, Profitec pro 600 * Stovetop - Bialetti Moka lavazza * French press - there's a plethora of options out there, bodum being the classic * Pour over - V60, Chemex, Melitta, Kalitta. most of these require filters * Drip - It seems everyone here is a fan of the Moccamaster * Travel - Aeropress, wacaco (many options there) I've been using my Gaggia classic for about 7 yrs. Some parts have been fixed, but they are widely as well as tutorials. It's a simple machine that will last forever if cared for.

  What's a purchase under $50 that has genuinely improved your daily routine?

  I see used Baratza and Bodum burr grinders on ebay listed for under $50 in working condition. I have a Baratza myself and it is a perfectly fine burr grinder, has been running for years with zero issues despite daily use.

  Which Coffee Maker Should I Get for My Daily Dunkin?

  Manual brews are the best BIFL. Aeropress, V60 pour over, or a Bodum French press are all affordable and will last forever. For a pour-over, you'll need a good temperature controlled gooseneck kettle. For an aeropress or French press, any cheap kettle is probably fine. Temp controlled if you have the budget. These will also last a long time. The biggest bang for your buck for coffee quality is going to be a grinder. Put most of your budget there.

  Recommendations for coffee machine - single serve?

  I have a "single serving" Bodum French press which makes about one and a half cups of coffee. They sell replacement carafes in case of breakage. I've only experienced that with improper dishwasher loading.

  Pour Ova Coffee Maker

  I have a Chemex and have brought several as gifts for close friends and family. The beauty of the Chemex is that you can buy replacement parts and it’s very easy to clean. The other one that catches my attention is the bodum one. It’s better priced and has a reusable filter.

  Best device to make a pot of coffee?

  I love my Bodum Columbia. The carafe is double-wall SS which keeps the batch a bit hotter and is super easy to clean. The plunger is mostly plastic, but mine has held up perfectly with many years of daily use. I used to use a Haro Skelton hand grinder, but I grew weary of the cranking and spilling - now I just buy coarse-ground beans from my roaster on the weekend.

  It is a little more work, and there is cleaning involved, but the quality of coffee (and control in every way) from a French press, as well as the simplicity of the device, really make this the ideal way to go. Bodum is great, and have been using one for three decades, but Espro is the perfection of the thing. Better filtering to remove fine high-acid and “octane” sludge, and the coffee is suspended above the grounds to prevent oversteeping. Give yourself five more minutes in the making, and the coffee will be five more minutes better…

  Just get a grinder and French press. A press has nearly no points of failure, it's easy to make anywhere (even camping!) and makes a way better cup than a basic brew pot. I really like the Bodum brand but they are all very similar in performance.

  True BIFL coffee makers. Plastic / electric automatic makers will breakdown and add microplastics to your body and environment on a daily basis, lesser quality flavor as well.

  My bodum french press that you can buy at any store is over 20 years old. I would guess that most any french press is BIFL as long as you treat it well.

  Where do I find a good manual coffee grinder?

  Loved my Breville burr grinder. However they only last about 3-5 years with daily use. Have gone Could not cough up the money for a new one . Purchased a Boden . Works great however there is a ton of static on the ground beans and it’s really annoying.

  Euro-bros recommend a kettle please!

  I should have clarified, no plastic touching the water. I'm ok with decent plastic elsewhere. I found a Bodum Melior which seems to fit the bill. I have maples tapped and I want to cook-down with a kettle for shits and giggles and get a second one for dedicated to that if it works.

My wife and I got a Bodum pour-over coffee maker as a wedding gift 5 years ago and I still make coffee in it every morning that we don’t have to go to work. Hoping for many years of good pots of coffee from that bad boy.

  If you can afford glass or ceramic containers, that's the route I'd go. Lots of options in that realm with air-tight containers. I'm partial to Bodum for coffee and tea storage. Mason jars or pickling jars are always a good bet, as well.

  I thrifted a glass and metal bodum french press from goodwill for like $5 10 years ago and use it daily. Always works like a charm. I’ve also had a coffee grinder for the same amount of time that has equally held up as well. I used to have one of those frother sticks to mix milk or sugar but after two broke, I just use a spoon and it doesn’t froth but still tastes great.

  My Krups coffee grinder has been in daily use since… maybe 1990. Definitely between 1989 and 1992. I have a Bodum electric kettle that I got on clearance at Target in the mid-90s as well. It’s been in all my offices since. It’s just a basic electric kettle, but it’s very stylish and it still gets compliments from co-workers.

  For me (a filter coffee/french press drinker): *Ceramic Hario V60 dripper with Hario paper filters (thrifted) * A digital scale that measures in 0.10 g increments * Baratza Encore grinder (if I were an espresso drinker, would go for a Baratza Esp) * Bodum french press (though in my case I wouldn’t call the glass ones BIFL because… glass and ADHD don’t mix well) For those times when I fancy something more akin to an espresso, I’ve got a Vev Viganò moka pot, stainless steel (18/10), made in Italy, that I bought 10 years ago. Also have a larger Vev Viganò (if I have guests) that I found at a thrift store about 15 years ago. Have only needed to change tge rubber gasket. All this said and done, good quality whole beans and soft, tasty, clean water is where to start. Before getting the Baratza I used a Mr Coffee burr grinder and only had the French Press. 1000% difference already from in-store ground beans Also, highly recommend checking out James Hoffmann’s YT channel for how-tos and product recommendations in a variety of price ranges!

  Bodum French press. The regular glass ones. I have two of them in different sizes they’re probably 15-20 years old. They don’t get much use these days because cleanup sucks when you don’t have a garbage disposal. Melitta pourover. I’ve had it since about 2009-2010. It cost less than $4 at the time and and still gets some use. It takes #2 filters that can be found in most supermarkets. Some people won’t like that it’s plastic. Capresso Infinity burr grinder. It’s over 10 years old at this point and still gets used 3-4x per week. Some would argue that it doesn’t grind fine enough for espresso but it does what I need it to do. Aeropress. Pretty much my daily driver lately. Again, some people won’t like that it’s plastic. Bialetti moka pot. I’ve had it for over five years and to be honest I don’t use it much because it’s too big for just myself. I’m sure other brands are as good, but replacement gaskets are easy to find online. Zojirushi thermos. Doesn’t leak and will keep your coffee hot all day long. It’s kind of annoying to drink directly from as vapor collects on the flip-top lid and might drip onto you.

  Bodum French press: broke one years ago, re-bought and it’s too simple to fail. Technivorm Moccamaster: workhorse for daily coffee and I expect it to work with regular cleaning and descaling for years to come (my previous Bonavita coffee maker also held up for years). Breville smart grinder: holding up well now for years, I’m concerned the grinder teeth are starting to wear, but still works well every day. Trying out a secondhand Flair espresso maker but seems to be sturdy. Hamilton beach kettle: bought for $20 and I’ve wanted a fancier gooseneck one but this one won’t die and works perfectly.

  i got my jezwa from my parents 20 years ago because they got a nicer one, and it hasn't failed me yet! :D also, my parents still have the manual coffee grinder they got in the early 70's... i have no idea what brand it is, but it has a metal burr and is probably not made any more :( my bodum french press is great for when i have a guest who wants coffee. almost any brand will do, tho, as these things are both pretty standard and almost impossible to fuck up in manufacture

  Any French press can last a long time if taken care of. I have a Bodum pour over that uses a stainless steel filter and I’ve had that years and years. We only do French press or stainless steel pour over brewing. We don’t like paper filters because they absorb the delicious coffee oils.

  I am going to preface by saying that I have not personally used it but I have seen it recommended a lot, but have you looked into the Bodum manual frother? It looks like their French press but it's smaller. It's not a plug in/battery operated but when I was looking at frothers it looked like it was pretty quick & easy to use/clean, and doesn't look like it would be something that would be hard to fix (if needed).
