  Best programmable drip machine for weekday coffee?

  if you just want hot, ready, not burnt at 5am, you don’t need to spend breville money unless you’re super picky. i’ve had good luck with mid-tier [programmable machines](https://deo9gr5ha90bn.cloudfront.net/?q=GMKAO1487) that actually hit decent temps and don’t nuke the pot. as in things like the bonavita 8-cup, oxo 8 or 9 cup or even the cuisinart perfecTemp line. Also one underrated thing: thermal carafe > hot plate. that’s usually where the burnt coffee feeling comes from. once i switched to thermal, even cheap beans tasted fine for mornings.

  Need a quality coffee maker

  The different types of brewing do give different flavours and quality, but it doesn’t sound like you want to buy them all to try the differences. Do you recognise the difference between espresso from a coffee shop - maybe an Americano if you only drink black, and a drip coffee? The ones that come out of big batch vessels? I doubt you want to get a full espresso setup which is way over your budget. Or go to fully manual brewing with French press or pour over if you’re asking for a coffee ‘machine’. As someone else suggested the best or BIFL options will be either a Moccamaster or bonavita.

  Glad you like it, but even in its category I wouldn't call it the best. Bonavita machines are also SCA certified, easier to clean, less expensive, less tall (allowing them to fit under cabinets Moccamaster cannot), also last forever and also brew excellent coffee. I definitely prefer them.

  What's the best BIFL item you own?

  Best BIFL items I have: Kitchen: Le creuset : Standard Dutch oven The big frying pan 11.75” Sauce pot - the smaller kind Tea kettle Vitamix Blender Zojirushi Induction Rice Cooker Cold Steel chef knife - $26 https://a.co/d/18dqGoL I’ll die on this hill. I had Miyabi, Henckels, all kinds of fancy pants $500 knives. This $26 knife beats the shit out of them. Sharp, strong, throw that bitch in the dishwasher… sharpens to a razors edge and holds it. 5 years old, still like new. It’s also super thick, so you can abuse it pry bones then go finely chop garnish. I love this goddamn thing. Bonavita Coffee maker - 12 years old works perfect. Outdoors/sports/hobbies: Tikka rifle - will go to my grandkids. TRX - training system - nylon webbing - no reason for it not to last forever Pentax 645 Medium Format lenses. I’ve been using them across camera systems for decades now. Still like new, so smooth and beautiul. Got them new old stock from Japan 20 years ago. Unbelievably cheap at the time. Like $75 a lens. I have 4-5. You can adapt them these days to any mirrorless camera. Travel: 1x saddleback slim briefcase still like new after 10 years 1x WP Standard , duffel bag, they don’t make the one I have anymore, but it’s similar to this: https://wpstandard.com/products/panam-duffle-bag Boots: Redwing Iron Rangers (most comfortable) Blundstone boots (daily drivers, also crazy comfortable) Mephisto winter Boots Tecovas Ostrich “Dean” boots. VIBA slippers, best fucking house footwear ever. The “Roma Leather” Clothes: I destroy all my clothes, these are the things that have survived the longest: Double RL dress shirts , western style overall, reallllllly expensive but they just get better and better with age and last and last. I wear these to work, and no tears, wear marks or rips. “By Robert James” dress shirts the quality is exceptional and he’s a small business. https://www.byrobertjames.com/ If you like “John Varvatos” style, but want it to last more than one washing or wear, buy Robert James anything… Furniture: I’ve had great experince in quality and longevity with Crate and Barrel. Yes, big brand, at least up until a few years ago, their furniture is made pretty well. A friend works in the industry and she said they are the last big manufacturer to make real furniture. I have a few RH pieces, like wardrobes, dinner table etc, all great, but from about 15 years ago. Not sure how they are doing nowadays. This is all natural selection. These are the items that have made it through the gauntlet of life, both reliability, but also usefulness, utility, and aesthetics. They look good, they work, and I actually use them.

  What is the Best Coffee Makers on the Market?

  Look this might be controversial but I have over 30 coffee makers , all but 1 or 2 of all of the SCAA makers on the market and the MM only makes my top 10 AFTER the shower head mod. My Aarke, Ratio 8 Zojirushie(Best thermal carafe on the market)Wilfa,Kitchen Aid Proline all surpass the MM IMHO. The MM will without a doubt last longer than most due to the copper boiler but I dont care about that when Im making my brew. A Bonavita will serve most peoples needs without the hefty price tag although I will take an older one over the newer ones due to cheaper components in the newer ones.The Breville is good and the option for cone or basket brews is a nice feature.. Best looking the Aarke wins hands down according to my guests but thats not something most care about..Again if you go with the MM get the shower head mod from Coffee Pilot in Canada for $30 plus shipping. Just my opinion everyone has their own opinion on these otherwise the market couldn't sustain so many high end makers. Happy Brewing!!

  Moccamaster Coffee Brewer

  We have both as well. The Bonavita is at our farmhouse which we visit a couple of weekends out of the month. Agreed the Technivorm is the best but the Bonavita is a close second. The mocha master is extremely consistent. 197° 100% of the time and that makes the difference. Brew time on 1 L is about 10 seconds faster than the Bonavita. Both are excellent coffee makers though.

  We have both and the Bonavita is a very close second to the mocha master. Really about the only variation is the Technivorm disperses hot water at 197°F 100% of the time which is ideal for perfect coffee. The Bonavita has a slut variation from time to time maybe 195° to 200° which is no big deal. Just saying. I prefer the mocha master, but the Bonavita is about half the price.

  Bonavita Top notch Italian drip coffee maker. Affordable at less than 200 dollars for 8 cup thermal carafe pot or less than 100 dollars for 5 cup thermal carafe pot. Doesn't have a hot plate so no worries about burning your coffee. Not as expensive as a moccamaster but still produces quality drip coffee. It comes with options on how you want it to drip on your grinds.

But the hot plate definitely alters the flavour and the last cup from the Bonavita is better than the last cup from the Moccamaster. I tend to just shut the hot plate off and accept a slightly less hot cup. **You could get a thermal carafe Moccamaster as well, but I prefer the colours available with the glass carafe version.**

  I’d go with the Bonavita Connoisseur. It’s super straightforward and doesn’t have a bunch of fragile parts. Just press a button and get a solid pot of coffee every time.

  Bonavita is my personal favorite drip coffee maker. Italian machine that comes with a thermal carafe, coffee pot so that it can keep your coffee warm without a heater. Not sure what the technology is like now but mine has a couple of drip style options when it comes to how the water falls onto your coffee grinds. Can find them for less than 200 for a 8 cup coffee pot, or less than 100 for a 5 cup coffee pot.

  Can someone please rec a drip coffee maker that won't rust on the base where the pot sits? Bonus if it is 6 cups or less. Even being careful, mine always drip and rust.

  Bonvita makes an 8 or a 5 cup brewer. I have no complaints about mine.

  Our Bonavita is incredible. Have had it for 7 years. It's the preferred kettle for high-end green tea and other fermented Asian tea freaks and is sold by specialty shops. The key feature is the pour spout that allows precision pouring.

  Yes! We had the Bonavita for years and loved it, we could have taken better care of it. It sounds like people don't like their coffee makers as much since the company changed management? We should have seen for ourselves.

  Coffee machine for life? (or at least a few years)

  Have had my Bonavita, the insulated one, for 12 years now used twice a day. Offers the same certification and temps as mochamaster and looks like a very simple coffee pot. Descale it once a year and looks the same as the day I bought it.

  Need a Coffee Maker Recommendation Under $100 CAD

  I use an Aeropress when I make coffee (usually I make espresso), but my spouse uses a Bonavita One-Touch that costs around $169. I realize that's more than the budget, but it is so unbelievably simple and great to use. We've considered the Moka Master many times, but we'll use the Bonavita for as long as it holds out. Also, you can use it with a Chemex.
