  Sony and Bose. I was shocked at how much better life was after upgrading. Microsoft, Logitech, gamer this and that - all had flaws and zero durability. Disposable. I use Sony for work and Bose for gaming at home. Better connectivity and ANC. And there is no comparison for sound quality. I’m happy to report they’ve just turned 4 this November, doubling my usual headphone lifespan.

  I have had a few. The Bose for excersize and because the other ones either fall out of make my ear hurt after 15min and Bose had a different way more comfortable earpiece. The Sony I like for the sound. But with my iphone I keep reaching for my airpods, because of the noicecanceling and ease of use when I make a call and instant pairing.

  I work night shift in a house with my family, so I need quiet and comfort while I try to sleep in the mornings. I saw the Sleepbuds recommended on here and have had amazing success with them. They’re surprisingly comfortable after a short adjustment period and they work great. They do have an odd software choice that makes it so that any mouse your device plays will be ramped up from zero over the course of a second or two instead of just playing at full volume right away, so that can create problems with certain media types, but that’s not really my concern while I’m sleeping. I usually put on a podcast or music when I’m sleeping and they work fantastically for that purpose.

  What brands/products do you AVOID because of their poor longevity?

  I was about to comment that my razer mouse has been going great for years, then I checked the model and realized it’s Logitech. My AirPods have been fine for a few years so far, but for longevity I’ve had a pair of Bose headphones for probably twice as long, though they’re usually using the audio port rather than Bluetooth.

  Neither. Get something with better water resistance as you're gonna be sweating in those. Sound-wise, unless you're a bass-head, QC is much more natural sounding and non-irritating in the long run. It's also pretty lightweight. I liked it enough to consider buying after hours of testing, but their look on anyone's head is even less appealing than that in Sony.

  The Sony is definitely a snugger fit, but I’ve worn it through most of an 8-hour shift without any discomfort. Sony even kind of describes it in the manual. If you check out the reference guide under “Notes for wearing the unit." https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wh-1000xm6/manuals I still lean toward the Bose for fit and weight. The Sony is comfortable too, just a bit more snug.

  If the QCU2 are anything like first gen then the ear pad is the Achilles heel. The seam splits and bose only covers replacements on that for the first year. I bought mine a year and a half ago (approx) and I’ve had to replace them twice, the second time I just got a better rated Amazon brand since it was out of warranty, so we’ll see what’s best. I should also mention that I only wear them to and from work, on the plane, and at my desk. I don’t workout in them. TLDR not a fan of Bose support and how I was treated over a manufacturers defect, great audio quality though so I’m torn.

  Sony WH-1000Xm# or Bose QC (any model) will last you at least a decade. Anything battery powered wont be BIFL, but my Bose QC35s are going strong for 9 years now. I also have a pair of QC 2s with a wireless mod (installed in 2013) that has lasted for over 20 years, but I barely use them because the QC35s have better ANC, fit, and sound quality. But the QC 2s are definitely more BIFL than the QC35s. Sonys though have better tech, especially their LDAC support.

  I can't speak for current models, but I have a pair of Bose QC35 Mk1s that are now 10 years old. I've had to replace the earpads and the headband as you'd expect since they disintegrated years ago, but that's easy enough with Ali Express. They're still on their original batteries and can supply days of use without being charged. Other than that I know Bose is a bit of an overhyped brand and it's the only Bose product I own..

  Apple maintains battery life pretty well, but the sound quality is nothing to write home about. The bsoe over the ear are my top pick if you're willing to compromise. Regardless, there is no true BIFL option in almost any modern electrical.

  Best over-ear headphones under 1000 rs (wireless)

  I have a pair of Bose QC-2s that have lasted me almost 25 years. They aren’t wireless, but you can buy a wireless adapter for them. Granted I stopped really using them like 10 years ago when the QC35s came out. I’ve used those pretty regularly for the past decade. I have had to replace the pads on both at least 5 times each though. Those do wear out. I also think the Sony WH-1000XM series is slightly better than the Bose options in most ways. I just can’t attest to their longevity.

  I have both AirPods (2nd gen pros and Bose ear buds). Both have options for isolation (noise canceling) and ambient audio. For me, the AirPods are more comfortable for long term (2+ hours). The Bose however fit more securely.

  I am looking for a spatial audio hybrid or bluetooth headset with mic attachment for gaming, any recommendations?

  I would then just recommend a Bose qc35ii which I also own and has been my companion for the last 7 or so years. Battery is still fine and if I every need I can replace the battery. The original which I have can be twisted without breaking but I am not sure about the upgrade. And replacement pads are available I am on set 4. For me they last 2 years but I just throw my headphones in my backpack without the case

  A flameless big fat candle in a glass jar that works on a timer (Pottery Barn) - I love when it comes on by itself when it gets dark. I keep one in the bathroom so I don’t need to turn on the light and another at the base of my staircase. The other thing is my Bose Smart Speaker. LOVE IT SO MUCH. It’s synced up with all my Apple music and I make all kinds of playlists for different moods. Great sound. Best gift I’ve received in years!

  I second this. I personally prefer Bose’s ear cushions for comfort to third party ones (which i’ve replaced twice), but after ~7 years, the battery life on my QC 35s can easily last 8+ hours and the noise cancellation is top-notch. The only minor issue I have is that the sound isn’t “amazing,” but for the longevity and quality, it’s hard to complain.

  QCU owner here. Agree with the comments, consumer electronics will never be BIFL. However to help you in your decision here's my 2 cents on the QCU * ANC: top tier, you're splitting hairs with Sony. Transparency is basically as good as Apple's AirPods Pros. Immersion mode is a gimmick, useless * Sound: top tier, as good as Bluetooth headphones can be * Comfort: high subjective, try them out first. For me they're on the heavy side * Materials: it's a joke, low quality plastic, loosely fit buttons and touch volume controls. Cushioning is decent but not 400EUR exceptional. I wouldn't be comfortable in a gym with them * Ergonomics: terrible, touch controls for volume are hit or miss and give you (ironically) zero control. Audio cues are slow and unclear, long / medium presses are unreliable TL;DR QC Ultras are not BIFL for materials, frustrating to operate and expensive. They deliver top ANC and good sound but that's pretty much it

The third party cheaper cushions last way longer than Bose’s own ones in my experience. I also prefer having buttons for all of the controls, and find that Bose has a better experience if you plan to switch between connecting to different devices

  Idk if you can call any technology BIFL, but my Bose headphones have lasted me 8-9 years and I’ve only had to replace the pads twice. I use them 4-6 hours every workday. Before these I had a wired pair that lasted all through college as well and still work. Mine are the QC 35s for reference. But they have great noise canceling, good mic, good sound and they are comfortable to wear for long stretches. I also love how stable the Bluetooth is on it, never disconnects or drops calls or any weird thing other headphones do. Honestly probably have less BT issues with my Bose than with my AirPods (which is kind of funny if you think about it). Anyway, my vote would be for the Bose from personal experience with the QC35s. but tbf I have never tried the Sony ones and my Bose are an older model vs what you are looking at. Just my 2 cents though!

  I've had some QC 35 IIs for about 8 years with just an ear cup replacement in that time. They still work well but battery doesn't last as long anymore and Bluetooth connectivity is not as reliable as they once were. I'd guess yes they'll last you but you'll likely start to see some minor annoyances that may motivate you to replace them in time.

  Bose Quiet Comfort II 35 (or 45)

  I’ve had my QC35 for nearly a decade now and have the same opinion; extremely solid build quality, my (original) battery still lasts 30+ hrs on a full charge, solid (but by no means audiophile grade) sound quality, and overall just a very well designed product. Does exactly what it is supposed to do with no fuss and minimal upkeep.

  Good list. Agree with iPhone being the preferred long term smartphone. But I have not had good luck with AirPod pros. Went through several pairs. First three with swapped out within the one year warranty due to battery degradation and the plastic shell forming cracks. Never dropped but I do work outdoors long hours in the heat. I suggest Bose Quiet Comfort earbuds instead. Better sound quality and far superior noise cancellation. No issues with battery or case and even outside warranty Bose stands by their products and offers trade in credit or discounts for old and defective products.

  Looking for bluetooth earbuds that aren't gonna crap out a month outside of warranty

  Ive always used bose sport or the quiet comforts because of how they fit. My old pair of sports are going on about 6-7 years but barely hold a charge. They are my backups, while one of my 3 year old quiet comforts just stopped working completely. I bought the Jlab ANC sport earbuds and they have been excellent. 1/3rd the price of Bose and honestly sound better IMO. the jlab app is nice and the be aware mode is great for running or activities when you're around others.

  Bluetooth earphones recs

  Disclaimer at bottom that you already know probably. But I've had 2 pairs of Air Pods Pro, and both broke within a year with the same issue, the noise cancelling mechanism borked and caused a loud buzzing in a most annoying way every time I spoke. I have never been an Apple product enthusiast, but I figured I'd give Apple a shot since I heard many good things about the noise cancelling capabilities, and my experience has led me to steer clear of Apple products ever again. I've also owned the Sony noise cancelling earbuds, WF-1000XM4s. I'd advise to steer clear of these as well as the battery in one earbud discharged about 20x faster than the other. The replacement I received had the same issue. The only pair of bluetooth earbuds I've owned that have lasted longer than a year have been the Bose QCs. It's also remarkable in that the noise cancelling seems to muffle the most sound of all the ones I've owned, from my hearing perception. Disclaimer: All bluetooth wearables are very impermanent, their batteries will eventually wear out and/or the utilized bluetooth protocol will become obsolete, making all bluetooth products guaranteed obsolescent over enough of a timeframe.

  I have the same problem with small ears and every earbud falls out and hurts until I found Bose Ultra Open earbuds. They cup onto the ears and stay. They are super comfortable and don’t cause any pain wearing them for hours. They’re not cheap but maybe the best gift I’ve given myself ever.

  I have these and they are the best. The two biggest selling points to me are the wired connection and AAA battery, which are apparently the biggest cons to most other people. I just carry eneloops and never have to worry about charging when traveling, also don't have to worry about a built in battery losing charge over time like my other headphones and becoming a $400 paperweight in a few years. I don't use Bluetooth either so it saves even more battery that way. I wish they still produced headphones like these, I'd buy more.

  I agree. I have this exact model as well and still use it to this day (got it close to the release date). I only found out recently you can buy a Bluetooth adapter that fits exactly the shape of the headphones and make them wireless (type "Bose QC25 wireless adapter", should be easy to find) this made them even better for me. I have the Bose QC Ultra as well, got them recently, but I alternate between the two sets of headphones so I always have one when the other is charging. I have to admit the Bose QC25 noise cancelling is pretty weak in 2025 standards though. The jump in noise cancellation quality I experienced going from QC 25 to ultra was impressive. I just love the both, and in particular the fact that the earpads are replaceable

  We have a Bose Acoustimass surround sound with Technics stack from the 1980s. Its still going strong. The sound is incredible! We have had it about 15 years in that time I've had to re-wire the speakers once when we moved house. That's literally it.

  Same here. QC 35. Purchased Feb 2018. Daily use between 4 and 10 hours. Replaced the ear pads 3 times. Second time with a cheap Amazon copy and I wouldn’t make that mistake again. Absolutely zero issues. Travelled the world and been thrown on the ground accidentally at least half a dozen times. Fantastic sound quality, battery still 100%. They are proving BIFL for me so far. Last year I purchased some reconditioned Bose sport ear buds. Also very impressed with them. Bose fan.

  The Bose Soundlink Color bluetooth speaker. My now wife got it for me for Christmas in 2014. I have absolutely ABUSED the shit out of the poor thing for over a decade - leaving it out in the rain (not even marketed as waterproof), throwing it into aluminum boats, banging it around in packs, setting it in the humid shower to get covered in condensation almost *daily*, cranking it way louder than it probably should be cranked, dropping it onto hard surfaces *countless* times, you name it. The thing still sounds just as good as the day I got it. My wife has been through like four “nicer” bluetooth speakers while I’ve still got old faithful. Her current JBL is starting to pop and give feedback, but the old Bose still purrs!

  Bose more comfortable and sturdy. Sony sound better and I think they offer better noise cancellation. The Sony hinge is weak and lots of people break it. However I slide them on instead of stretching them open to plop on my ears. I have the QC25 that someone gave away, and the Sony 1000x (mark 1). I also have the AirPod Pro 2. I feel the AirPods have better NC than the Bose but don’t sound as nice but it’s a different feel because they are inside the ears.

  FWIW: I had a pair of Bose over-ears in the mid/late 2000s and the earphone part just snapped off pretty shortly after buying them. They sounded good, but the build quality just felt terrible. Would have 100% agreed with you if that was my last experience with their headphones. 8 years ago I was on a flight with a kid screaming their head off, decided I should get some noise-cancelling headphones. Gave Bose another shot and I've had my QC 35s ever since.

  After a year-long trip to the US about a decade and a half ago, I bought the QC15s before my flight back home. A while later, I purchased the Audeze LCD-3 along with an audiophile FLAC player from Japan (can’t remember the model). After enjoying audio nirvana with the LCD-3s for a while, I decided to pit the QC15s against the Audeze—and to my surprise (subjectively, of course), the difference wasn’t that dramatic. Really speaks to the quality of the Bose headset—going toe-to-toe with premium headphones at 10x the price.

  I got, from military hotel points in 2001 a pair of QC-15’s that still work, I had to rig a strip of sheet metal and electrical tape it to keep them functional when they broke on me going to Germany. I use them for domestic travel now. I have QC-25 for international travel and they’re great. I bought from Amazon ear cup covers that pilots use to keep the sweat and oils from degrading the ear cups, I’ve replaced the pads on both sets and a 3rd pair I got from a woman who thought the headphones were toast due to that degradation and sold them cheap.

  Pretty sure I had both. I did like  the sound of the QC 25, but the button broke after some time and could no longer turn them on. Can not say that I was gentle though. I did like the simple button layout, I have the QC 35 I now and the noise cancelling is broken and I had to change the pillows twice. As soon as I stopped buying pillows from the bose brand, the pillows serm to last longer. Bose burned me too many times. Maybe I just repeatedly got unlucky, but Bose I would not recommend as a purchase and much less with the promise of lasting for life. No, my next ones probably will be Sony, even though the sound and the button layout are less to my liking, they seem to hold up much better when I ask the people in my environment, who got them. I just don‘t like the complicate touch control etc. Just overengineered imo.

  I have had these. I had an issue with it turning back on after switching it into the office position. They were my favorite headphones. Upgraded to 35s with USBC and they are still my favorite with a quick access button for noise cancelling. Of course everything with a battery isn't bifl, but they work with a headphone jack if they loose battery. If you take care of them they last, and you can get replacement foam pieces for when they wear. They are my recommendation over others I've tried. Albeit expensive.

  Officially, you can't, but if you're handy enough with a screwdriver then it's almost always possible to replace the battery. I also have a set of QC35s - the battery life is still excellent on them but I would replace the battery myself if it failed. I've replaced the battery on my Logitech H600 wireless headset a few times. I am inclined to agree with you on BIFL though, as the lithium batteries are often specific to a device and there's no drop-in replacement like regular consumer batteries. So if you can't find that specific lithium pack, you're outta luck. And eventually those packs will stop being made as the device itself becomes obsolete. Really, no portable electronics are BIFL. But these Bose QCs are great devices. I've taken them on several 12-hour flights and never fly without them.

  I have the QC 35 for \~9 years now, with some \*serious\* usage \~10h/d 15d/m. Had to replace the cushions twice, and they still work amazingly well, battery still holds \~20h. Zero issues with anything else. Just a few weeks ago I upgraded to the QC Ultra's due to new noisy neighbours... and oh boy, the ANC is even better, with multidevice support and the battery holds almost 3 days. Nonetheless, i don't think these qualify as BIFL even though they are very good.

  The nice thing about these is that they're simple. There is a mechanical switch to turn them on and off. Annnnnd that's it for features. There are more effective noise cancelling headphones, but they have touch sensors and gobs of features that are likely to go wrong on you at some point. These will keep on working, doing the one thing that they are meant to do.

  I've got some 301s from the 70s paired with a hitachi stereo amp. They still sound great. Sure they have some color to the sound but they really have great lower mids/upper bass. Sort of a wooly sound, probably had better treble when they were new. I've also had reference speakers before. For movies and music those bose 301s sound fine and keep on trucking.

  WF-1000XM4: Two failures in under 2 years. Premium price, disposable lifespan?

  I have the headphone version of the XM4 (not the earbuds) and they've been nothing but trouble since I got them. They only charge if I turn them on first, so I have to be very careful not to let the battery completely die or they'll become paperweights. The plastic creaks when I move my head, the ear pads rot easily, the touchpad doesn't work in calls (only music) and they don't feel like $300+ headphones the way my GF's Bose 700 do. I regret my purchase every time I use them. Yeah, noise cancellation is great and the app has some nice features but that's about it.

  I’ve had my Bose QC35s since 2017. I recently replace the ear cups because the leather on the old ones was cracking. They’ve been honestly fantastic headphones though. I take them on every flight for watching movies and sleeping, and I use them in bed when my wife is asleep. I know Bose has replaced them with the QC Ultra now, so I’d look at those.

  I’d go with the Bose quietcomfort earbuds. theyre durable, good battery life, and can take a bit of a beating. I’ve dropped mine plenty of times and they’re still doing fine. Plus, the noise canceling is great. Way better than Raycons.

  Sony has wonderful noise cancelling, but can be a pain on the software side, and audio quality is meh. Bose has better audio, but it’s somewhat more tuned imo (towards a specific listening style). I’ve loved bose but I’ve also had them fall apart on me WAY faster. Airpods Max make no goddamned sense and yet I just love them. The sound is better than the above to me, if you’re using Apple Music at least, and they just *feel* good. But so much of the design is beyond silly. They’re the ones I use most. However. If money were no object I’d get Focal Bathys. No question.

  Weighing in on the Bose vs Sony. I wore Bose for years and decided to give Sony a try when my old Bose headphones fell apart. Sony’s noise cancelling is excellent. A real step up. But. It’s a huge ball ache switching between devices. My bose headphones always just worked how I wanted them when I wanted them. My Sony - if I’m connected to my computer and my phone and a call comes in - I can’t answer it on my machine because the headphones think they’re attached to my phone. I want to move away and play audio on my phone - sometimes works sometimes doesn’t. I can’t link more than 2 devices - so: I have a desktop, a laptop and a phone - connecting between 3 of them is a pain. Bose works better. I’m going to keep the Sonys for a couple more years because I can’t afford to fork out again, but when I come to replace them in a few years I’m going back to Bose for convenience of use.

  Unfortunately, audio consumer electronics are not BIFL products unless you are looking at passive speakers. Modern devices such as soundbars and WiFi speakers are designed for planned obsolescence with the average age of ~5-7 years (obviously varies with brand and price point). Plus, technology evolves and you may not want to be stuck with an outdated model for long. To answer your question, I would suggest to steer clear of Sonos due to the app and connectivity issues. The brand has taken a hit and there are better options out there. I would also avoid TV brands such as Samsung, LG, Vizio as those companies are not core audio companies. Polk, Klipsch, etc. are also mediocre at best. JBL, Bose, and Bang & Olufsen would be the three that I would recommend. You will have a large choice of models at different price points.

  10 years with a Sony soundbar and wireless subwoofer in the living room. Still sounds great. Have a Bose Solo, no subwoofer, in my bedroom. $150 at Costco. Couple years later I still can’t believe how good it sounds. Had a hardwired high end system in my last house. Don’t miss it at all.

  BTW, if you want headphones, get over-the-ear, not on-the-ear. You want something that puts very little pressure on your skull or they will start to hurt after a while. As a bonus, most headphones come with a cord that lets you plug them in, and many will still work without being turned on so you don't even need the battery. Sony and Bose are generally considered to be the best. Beats is highly rated but I see a lot of posts on the channel asking how to fix a broken band. Apple AirPods Max are highly rated but very expensive. Bose has one of the lower battery life at 24 hours, many are rated for much longer than that.

  One issue you are going to run into with earbuds is the amount of time they last between charges. Most earbuds are good for 6 hours then you have to put them into the case to charge. A few might last longer. If you don't mind taking them out for a while then earbuds will work great. If you want to be able to wear them constantly for longer than that you might want to look at headphones instead. I know they are more expensive but Bose QC headphones are amazing for travel. You don't have to get the more expensive ultras, although they have better features. I bought the regular QCs to wear on a long flight recently and they were amazing.

  No electronics are BIFL. However, as somebody who has to have an 18 to 20 hour travel day anytime I want to go see family I swear by my Bose headphones. I was gifted the most recent model of Bose QuietComfort headphones last winter and to be honest I can't even tell you when I charge them because they have such a nice battery life that I don't actually know how frequently I need to charge them. I also have really specific sensory needs, and I've never had an issue with my headphones feeling uncomfortable. I don't like in the earbuds because my ears are really small and no rubber guard small enough will fit...leaving me to use naked ear buds that fall out. So I can't really speak for earbuds but honestly I feel like headphones over the ear are better at an airport or train station anyway so people know you're not able to hear in case there's a problem.

These things are extremely comfortable because they don't go in the ear canal, have excellent battery life, and pretty decent sound quality considering they're open-style.   What is a BIFL item/product you recommend?

  I have the briggs and Riley Baseline carryon, medium roller (getting the Large/XL means you will be over the 50lb domestic (US) weight limit), and a cabin 2-wheel underseat roller. Great bags, although the wife wanted Away (seem nice so far, but not my preference). Tom Bihn backpacks. Took a week long trip to the tropics and the bag is a little unorthodox but it can hold a lot of stuff. And you have a variety of fabrics to select. Bose over hear headphones - great for travel and mine have lasted for awhile. For life is somewhat limited but its an electronic item that has a little tech, its a tradeoff. Sonicare toothbrush - It is like 10 years old on the original battery. Teeth are life. Agree with the Leatherman Wave+, good tool doesn't really excel at any one thing, but useful to have. Cookware: DeBuyer carbon steel country fry pan. I prefer this over cast iron. Demeyere Atlantis Fry pan - great steel fry pan. Allclad copper core (functionally similar to the d3 but I like the appearance of the copper line that shows through and I don't worry about cleaning it). I have watches. Mechanical ones are nice but as the old joke goes if you have to pick a watch to wear for the rest of your life what would you choose and no you can't choose your g-shock. NiMH batteries - where possible get rid of alkaline even if they are cheaper. They will leak and ruin your day and maybe even the device they are in. I choose Eneloops, the normal not the pro variant. Skip the LION batteries for now as they are 3.7v and require a voltage regulator to go to 1.5v, but if you need the 1.5v instead of 1.2v for the device meaning the NiMH won't work then the normal 1.6v lithium batteries would work. High quality LED lights - CRI should be 90+. They are a long term consumable but higher quality light is better. Knipex and Klein for tools. Knipex makes my favorite generalist pliers/wrenches. Klien makes great hand tools, I prefer the MiUSA options and use their linesmans for random things. Klien also makes a bottle opener, Wera does too and they are somewhat comfortable to hold. Clothes that don't have spandex. Spandex and elastic fail. I have had Patagonia fleece for 30 years and it still works. Randolph sunglasses - I just like them. Ray Ban 4140, they have spring hinges which means I can wear my spouse's and they have had theirs for 15 years although I had to buy new aftermarket lenses. Also discovered a french brand Cartel that also uses spring hinges, but don't know enough about this brand. Miele Washer and Dryer - gets rid of the vent ducting behind and they are solid if a little quirky. They canister vacuum is great. Converted the in-laws to this brand and they just went from the upright to the canister.

  This. The old one (QC25) I have has a toggle on it, when you toggle it the active noise canceling would start, doesn’t matter if you play music or not Sounds like what you are looking for is ANC. Bose does the best job, Sony and AirPod pro are fine. In-ear earbuds and close back headphone has the best isolation. AirPods Pro also have the feature, just put it in noise canceling mode. Not sure about non pro version

  You can get nice Sony or Bose ones off eBay refurbished. Straight from the manufacturer and you get a 2yr warranty with them. Turned our Bose ones in 2 times and they just sent complete replacements and only had 1 bud go bad both times. I think Samsung is doing this through eBay as well too.

  Mine is 11 years old. Still sounds good, and rugged. No idea how long the battery lasts though. Maybe 4 hours? Cost $300 back then. Just got a Sonos Move 2. Sounds much better, connects via WiFi, battery rated for 24 hours, and can charge a phone. Got it on sale for $330.

  Earplugs For Sleeping

  I’m a BIG fan of Bose Sleep Buds. They’re not cheap (around $200), but they’ve been life changing for me. Super comfortable and they block a lot of noise on their own, but they also pair with your phone and the Sleep Bud app has a wide range of soothing noises. Can also set an alarm on them.

Maybe Sony is a little bit better in the sound department, but I’d imagine you’d need to have a very keen ear to even be able to tell. I’ve never been listening to music on the QC35s and thought “man for $300 retail these should sound better.” If my headphones died today I’d be more than happy to drop a couple hundred on the exact same pair.

  I had a pair of QC25's. Got some dodgy Bluetooth adaptor and they worked great without having to plug them in to my phone. Bought a pair of QC35ii's off eBay with a battery that needed replacing. Was planning to sell on. Replaced it.....ended up keeping them both! Can't justify getting rid of either as I love them both. Great sound quality and user serviceable to an extent.

  Works just fine for me! I wear them to the gym so it can get pretty loud, but they do a great job to keep background noise out. I think the Bose app lets me turn ANC down to a lower setting or turn it off entirely, but I just keep it at the max. I should also mention that calls work fine the these as well, I take calls on these pretty regularly. My only gripe about it is that the microphone is too sensitive - it'll pick up a lot of background noise for the other end of the call to deal with, but that's not a big deal imo.

  A few years ago I was considering the same brands for a pair of ANC over-ear headphones, and I ended up buying the Bose QC35 ii’s. I was able to try all three on at Best Buy, which I think you should do as well before you pull the trigger. They’re all going to be very similar in terms of longevity, so I’d suggest you just pick your favorite based on how they feel/sound to you if you can. That said, I’m still using the pair of QC35s that I bought almost 7 years ago, several times per week, and they’re just as good as the day I bought them. Occasionally I’ll buy a set of replacement earcups , but that’s just normal wear and tear, and they’re cheap.

  Lots of recommendations for Sony XM4-5 series, and I personally own the XM4... BUT I would recommend to add other options. - If you have an iPhone then consider their earphones Max (or whatever the name). They truly cover your ears and interact greatly with iPhones. But they are heavy, bulky and expensive. -Bose Qc35 or whatever is their current top model. They cover the ears better than the Sony XM4-5. The noise cancelling is also as good. And usually they fit better women's music taste because the sound is softer and warmer than the Sony, like for vocal artists, jazz, electro, etc.

  I've been using Bose Quiet Comfort II headphones for over 3 years. Sometimes 10 hours or more a day. Batgery life has not dropped, sound quality is still fine, no problems with build other than needing to replace the foam ear pieces once last year. I got them on sale near Christmas and even if they don't last a lifetime, I'm happy with the life they've given me.

  I had XM4, and ended up choosing Bose QC Ultra over getting XM5 because as much as I love Sony, the connectivity is much better with Bose.

  Bose quiet comfort. They are pricy, I was gifted them 4 years ago and they are still going strong. They charge super fast and have a long battery life. The padding is just now starting to wear away, but you can get replacement ones. Highly recommend

  I bought a pair of Bose QC35 in 2015ish. They've been used heavily, including by my kids for the last 4 years. They're still going strong with naught but a set of pad replacements. They've outlasted the Sennhesier and Bowers & Wilkins models I tried in the interim. They're easier to pair than anything but the AirPods I use primarily now. I've heard great things about the XM4s, but I fully expect that the Bluetooth standard my Bose were made with will be obsolete before those headphones stop working.

  I have a pair of Bose QuietComfort QC35 II from 2018 that have been great. Still work just fine, haven't had to replace the battery. I can wear them for many hours on end without issue. They were recently stolen from me by my child, so I've replaced them with the Bose QuietComfort Ultra. I've heard a lot of people like the Sony WH-1000XM series also, so I think either would make a decent choice.

  As a sensory specific adult I live an die by my Bose QC. Electronics aren't BIFL but I have one pair of Bose QC that's so old it runs on batteries and still connects to devices with a wire exclusively and a newer pair that's the latest model. I live and I die by my Bose. -Sincerely a 24 year old woman with a small head.

  I've had my Bose QC for about 6 years. Extremely comfortable and and I've never had connectivity issues with them. They still work great but I've had to replace the ear cushions twice due to wear and tear, which was a cheap and easy repair.

  I’ll second Bose quiet comfort! I struggled finding headphones that don’t physically hurt my ears and my audiophile husband let me try his on an international flight and I was blown away. He’s had his for around 8 years and has replaced the padding twice due to wear and tear (which are easily found, bought, and replaced), but the quality is still there.

  I love Bose headphones as they fit me so well and (for me) have the best connectivity. I have a pair of the Quite Comfort Ultras and they are amazing. My spouse has had a pair of Quite Comfort 35s for over 5 years that she has worn daily and still perform very well. In my opinion the noise-cancelling is the best on Bose headphones. I have tried the Sony XM5 and Sennheiser Momentum 3nand AirPod Max. I do think the Sony headphones sound a touch better but I also use my headphones to watch sports and movies in the evening so I went with the more comfortable and better noise-cancelling. Best of luck in your search Like most items there is some wear and tear on the pads but you can DIY replace them for about $30. If you think you will have the headphones for a long time I recommend buying a typical color (white or black) or buy a replacement set of pads with your headphones.

  I have a set of Bose QC 2(?) that have been reliable for like 12 years. They are wired. Only downside is they run on a single AAA battery for the noise canceling. I keep forgetting to turn the noise canceling off so the battery keeps dying. Plus is that AAAs are easy to come by.

  Noise cancelling headphones are usually wireless ones and those are never BIFL. At this point you'll do better in r/Headphones. My rec? Sony's XM4 or XM5 headphones. There's also Bose, if your focus is on noise cancelling ability. If you simply want a headphones that block sound and be BIFL, I'd suggest most popular **closed-back** (it's important) models from Beyerdynamics, Audio-Technica, Yamaha, and Sennheiser.

  I've tried both the QuietComfort Ultra and the Sony XM5s, and I found each has its own strengths. The XM5 offers a balanced sound profile with impressive active noise cancellation that really shines in noisy environments. The Ultra is incredibly comfortable during extended use and has a slightly warmer sound. I lean towards the XM5 for sound quality, but if comfort over long sessions is your top priority, the Ultra might be a better fit. Testing them out in person helped me decide, so I recommend doing that if you can.

  About a year ago I got used Bose headphones, the original owner didn’t use them because the ear pads were pretty badly worn. So I replaced them with $10 knock offs and it looks good as new. If you’re on a budget I’d recommend getting something second hand, and replace the worn ear pads. The sound quality will depend on your preference, I think some of it can be adjusted in the app. My main concern was noise cancelling and battery life which this headphone is great at.

  I'm rocking my Bose QC35ii for about 8-9 years now. Office work and business trips 3-5 times a month. Earpads Will wear, but are easy and cheap to replace. Sound and noise cancellation is exceptional. Exchanging the battery is apparently simple, but I've not been forced to do that yet.

  Best? Sony or Bose. Most repairable? Fairbuds or Fairbuds XL. I've had my Bose QC35 II for 7+ years now, multiple pad changes, still solid as a rock, but I know eventually the battery will degrade and while not impossible, it's not an easy item to swap. Fairphone stuff isn't the best noise cancelling or audio tech on the market, but ease of service is a big bonus to increasing the service life. I have a set of the fairbuds true wireless buds and, unless the company goes out of business, everything is replaceable on a remarkably granular level.

  Man, my soundsport are falling apart and i was looking for something similar and it seems like there is literally nothing on their level. Most people here answer this earbud question with iem's which are just comfort stillborns on every level and I own a bunch of high grade ones. The soundsport were just perfect when it comes to comfort while actually also being of great sound quality. Sadly, the ebay ones seem to be fake from every seller I've checked (which is basically every one offering right now). Really bummed ngl, nothing compares to em. Now I gotta wear some high end headphones that are heavy pieces of shit, feeling dogshit ;(
