  it depends on your budget - i have always liked the breville smart oven air fryer pro. admittedly, it's more a countertop convection oven w really good air frying setting, rather than a true standalone air fryer so ymmv. (i personally have the pro but there is a smaller version; ime main difference is the capacity - some presets are missing but you can customize all the settings to replicate them.) i do feel it's worth the money based on how frequently i use it, how many 'jobs' it does, and its durability. i don't like the 'upgraded' version that requires app use so i can't speak to the quality etc of the joule line.

  Best Espresso Machine? That Actually Last a Long time?

  Burning through multiple machines usually has more to do with how hard they’re used and how they’re maintained than the brand name or price tag. A lot of modern home espresso machines can make great shots and last for years when they’re treated reasonably. Keeping up with cleaning and descaling and not running them nonstop matters more than most people think. You’ll see the rancilio silvia mentioned a lot because it’s simple and easy to service. That appeals to people who like knowing they can replace parts and keep a machine going long term. Then there are [breville's coffee machines](https://dk5cnflyn7mcb.cloudfront.net/?q=GMKAO1709) that are tailored towards convenience. They’re easy to live with, make good espresso, and plenty of people use them for years without problems. When issues do come up long term, it’s often from heavy daily use or skipped maintenance rather than the machine being junk. Neither approach is really wrong. Some people want convenience and an all in one setup, others want something straightforward they can maintain forever. As long as expectations match how the machine gets used, both can be solid long term choices.

  Grind and brew coffee maker.

  Sounds like you have your heart set on grind and brew. I will just say from my vcr/dvd/TV days...combo units are a loser because eventually one side breaks or has a upgrade which renders the whole thing less than ideal. For a brewer....check out the Breville precision brewer.  Programmable. Has a timer.  Get it with the insulated SS carafe.  Breville also makes a separate burr grinder.  It's nice.  I'm sure there are others but this setup checked all the boxes for me. Apologies to the moccamaster diehards in the sub. I realize I have cut you deeply.

  I bought a Dualit toaster and it sucks. What am I missing?

  The only complaint I have about our Breville Smart Oven Air is that it's not really an air fryer. It works for air frying, but not nearly as well as an actual air fryer. When reading cooking instructions, I usually set it on air fryer mode, but the time and temp are somewhere between the directions for air fry and conventional baking. For example if it says air fry 360° for 6-8min or bake at 425° for 13-15min, I will set put it in air fry mode on 400° for 10min or so. I love that it fits a full 9x13" baking dish and we use it daily for baking and toasting. We only use our full size oven for holidays or if we have 2-3 things that have to bake. Anyone else?

  I bought a Ninja air fryer because I was on the ninja train for small appliances. In two years all of my ninja products broke (air fryer, creami & a small blender). I emailed ninja about my air fryer because it was only 14 months old, I was out of warranty and they offered me a 30% off coupon. We sucked it up and spent the money on the breville pro smart oven and it is years above the ninja in every way. We use it multiple times a day for air frying, toasting, cooking, baking. If you can swing it I would recommend it over and over again.

  Breville Grind Control Coffee Maker (has a built-in grinder). I bought the thing to baby-step my wife towards some serious at-home coffee hardware. 5 to 6 years later, it is still going strong and she has let me know when it breaks down "We are getting another just like it!" The only piece that had an issue is one of the few pieces on it that could be replaced! This has been very frustrating!

  I have a fancy pants coffee maker called a Breville Bambino. I'm loving it, but I don't think it's the basic "Just make me a cup of coffee and don't try to kill my children" machine that you are looking for. I have a Consumer Reports account and did a brief check and it looks like the top rated coffee makers are by Cuisinart. DCC-T20, DCC-3200, and DCC-4000. Hope that helps.

  I’ve had my Breville for about 5 years and it’s still going strong. I bought a few extra air frying trays and the capacity is pretty amazing, especially for a party. The door did start getting stuck open at one points there’s a thin metal plate that connects to the door open sensor that can bend with repeated heating and cooling. It’s a pretty easy fix but you have to open up the unit and bend the metal. Fortunately it’s easy to open - just a bunch of screws.

  honestly that’s the perfect example of why “premium” doesn’t mean anything anymore. you almost dropped $300 on a breville, and the $15 habitat-find ended up doing everything you needed roasting, baking, bread, the works. sure, the clock lives in its own timezone, but for fifteen bucks? unbeatable. half the time you’re just paying extra for branding and vibes, not actual durability. sometimes the scruffy second-hand appliance becomes the real BIFL champ.

  In Aus, I have a Breville Express Impress coffee machine and I can’t go without it. I have access to free beans which obviously not everyone will but making coffee at home saves me $60aud a week easily and its so consistant The other one is my Gozney pizza oven. Very expensive, $1350aud but it pays for itself when you can make the best pizza at home for a fraction of the cost

  \+1 for the usual reco on r/espresso for the Breville Bambino Plus and a good grinder (Baratza Encore Esp) for around $600. Will require a learning period of how to properly prepare espresso but it's a great entry machine with the features you want and within your price point.

  I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks the Breville isn’t very good at making “toast”! I just got the Smart Oven Air yesterday to replace my SECOND Breville Smart Oven. They only seem to last me about 3-4 years before the control panel decides to crap out and then the buttons don’t work anymore. Then I suffer with wonky buttons for another year or so and buy another one. I haven’t found a better replacement for it since we use it every day instead of the real oven. I am excited to try the Air Fry mode though. Any tips?

  I have one of these. Fantastic air fryer, 9/10. Two key points: A: It cooks a little slower than many other models - if instructions say cook for 10 min at 350, it will be 12-13. B: The "flip" thing is really a gimmick, at least for me. It doesn't save very much counter space at all, so it just stays in the regular position. The trays / pans / etc can sit on top because the heat from the machine wont hurt them. Overall, however, an excellent buy at full price, even better discounted, and if getting it from CostCo, there is a great return policy if for some reason it breaks.

  I have had a Breville Smart Oven Air for 6 years and owned the predecessor Breville Smart Oven for \~7 years prior to that. The Smart Oven Air is an amazing oven. I use it 90% of the time over my Viking oven (which is also great, but takes \~20 minutes to preheat). However, as an airfryer, the Breville is limited. You cannot do high fat products (like wings or ribs or burgers without all of the grease falling directly onto the heating element. Same thing for liquid marinated food (e.g. chicken). Even air fried broccoli leaves little burnt bits on the heating element. Also, the grate is a PIA to clean and I just keep it dirty. It's an amazing oven and does everything extremely well, aside from air frying (where it's a solid B-).

If you make waffles often, it’s worth it for casual use a mid range option can still do the job fine. Key tip fully pre heat and don’t over grease to avoid sticking.

  i’d look at stainless steel sets from all clad or cuisinart, they hold up well. breville makes great espresso machines too. if you’re building a registry, i’ve heard some people use Listful to keep everything in one place and share it easily. sounds handy for tracking what’s been bought.

  Which coffee machine is better for home use: DeLonghi ECAM 450.55 S Eletta Explore or PHILIPS Series 5500 LatteGo EP5547/90?

  If you really want a quality coffee machine then the absolute cheapest for an espresso machine is a gaggia classic pro. However, I cannot overstate this next part. Number one for producing good coffee is the coffee itself. Number two is the grinder, last most important part of this is the espresso machine. Don’t buy any delonghi products. I would recommend the espresso sub for this question. However they get snobby. Absolute barebones but it for life espresso machine is the gaggia classic pro. The downside for the gaggia classic pro is that it can take a while between shots to reheat. So if you’re getting multiple drinks out every morning then you need to get a heat exchange espresso machine or a dual boiler. If you have time to kill in the morning then the gaggia will be just fine. A grade above that would be a breville barista but it isn’t buy it for life. I would honestly call whole latte love and get their input. They are very helpful. I have a eureka mignon facile and a Bezzera bz 13 that should last for a super long time.

  If you’re looking for something that truly lasts, go for Technivorm Moccamaster or Breville Precision Brewer. Both have metal internals, easy to fix if something breaks, and parts are available for years. I’ve had the Moccamaster for 5+ years — no issues, just regular descaling.

  I love my Breville. I don't understand the love for Mochamaster. It has a lot of plastic parts and has a limited set of features. Mine arrived with cracked plastic. Had it replaced but returned it within a week of regular use. My wife didn't really like it either. I've had the Breville for about 10 years. Never had a problem. Great carafe. Great coffee. Lots of features to tweak it to your preferred taste. Easier to find a full 12 cup version, too.

  Thanks for the write up, I agree a toaster oven has a lot going for it that should keep it going for a long while.   A lot of the modern ones have logic boards, which sometimes last decades, sometimes go funny after a year or two. Those you have to be a bit of a Louis Rossman to diagnose and repair.   I didn't know about the nichrome life expectancy of only 5-10 years, are those the same elements that are in hair dryers and chep heaters? Sometimes those last decades and decades too, but I didnt know they used to be considered repairable. I know the ninja and I think the breville toaster oven use quartz elements and I'm not too sure how easy that is to repair, but maybe they last longer than the nichrome elements.

  My brother has one of those Ninja air fryer/toaster oven combos but it was ~175$ when he bought it iirc and it's been going strong since 2020. It's about the price of a breville toaster oven but I mean they do last if you don't treat them like garbage. The breville has a resettable thermal fuse which is one of the most common failure points on cheaper machines, no idea about the ninja toaster oven. If a company is using a one-and-done thermal fuse then it should be avoided at all costs, using it slightly wrong/too long once will total the machine (and although it's an easy fix, 95% of people won't know how to fix it or won't want to tinker around with it).   In 1977 a toaster oven like this was about 35-40 dollars which is a little over 200 today, GE never put the price on their adverts so it's hard to nail down. I seriously doubt the modern toaster ovens are going to last 50 years but they're not the disposable appliances like people make them out to be. Cheap toaster ovens crapped out all the time back then but appliance repair shops were common and thes were so simple that it was often an easy/cheap repair (one thing is modern ovens have a lot more features, especially at the ~200 dollar level, reliability is a tradeoff with all those features though). Today you have to have a bit of knowledge about how these work in order to fix them, or to know if it's fixable or not (like with a crapped out logic board), but often it's doable. However, when they do crap out now, the company wants you to go buy another, not try to fix your old one or have them warranty it.

  Moccamaster for drip - prime deal. Breville Barista for espresso/lattes/cold drinks/ etc. I am not sure if it is truly BIFL but I have used the heck out of the breville in the last 5 years and its been great. They do also offer some replacement parts. This combo lets me make just about any coffee drink I could want. The breville is perhaps not the best esspresso machine one could buy and I could also get a separate fancier grinder but for me this has been a great price to performance sweet spot.

  Same here, I've had [this breville](https://www.reddit.com/user/winfordLemur/comments/1n869ll/how_i_cut_my_prep_time_in_half/) for a couple of years. It's a bit on the pricey side but it's a completely different thing compared to my previous one that died after a few years. It has loads of different modes/blades from slicing, shredding, making french fries, mince, puree, can handle dough etc. I can bung the parts in the dishwasher, motor has a 30 yr warranty, and I can say with certainty that this thing was built to last.

  Breville smart over air fryer is great. Toaster oven with air fryer (fresh air convection for dry air). I use it every day. Cooks dinner most nights. Comes with multiple trays you can put in the dishwasher. Can cook meats and vegetables with the air fryer for dinner.

  I've seen the smaller Breville toaster ovens last over a decade. The Breville Air Fryer Pro just has too many design flaws IMO. For example, the door has a spring that's connected to a sensor. When the spring fails the sensor will also stop working properly causing the control panel to throw error messages. The spring is a cheap part that could be a DIY fix but Breville should have designed the door better or used a longer lasting spring. The door also allows a lot of steam to escape. Unfortunately, the control gets a lot of this moisture and heat causing premature failures or malfunctions.

  We bought an Instant (Instant Pot brand) toaster oven in 2019 and I keep waiting for it to die. It keeps hanging on unfortunately. The toast function mediocre, but it’s so good at veggies. You have to lower the temperature of everything by 25-50 degrees. I have a love/hate relationship with it. They were bought out so I can’t recommend the new one though. I was a Breville fan before this, but the quality has gone down. I’m mainly commenting to save this thread for later when my current one dies.

  I did my research. Leaning towards a breville at @ $300. I was at habitat for humanity and my friend pointed out an Oster convection toaster oven for 15 dollars. It had a hot dog bag remains melted on top. 15 dollars later it was home and the melted plastic bag cleaned off quick. I forgot how many years ago. I make pies, cook roasts bake bread. Everything. I. Got some trays that fit perfectly on line and roast veg. No signs of quitting . I was a sceptic at first. i will keep until it fails. It is tiny though.

  We love ours. I agree to some extent with the other responder that it’s not the best at every aspect but I find it to still be good at them, and the fact that you can do them all without needing separate devices is fantastic. To OP though, I think the second bullet is counter to “buy it for life”, and I don’t expect our Breville to last forever. Anything with significant digital controls I expect to break down eventually. If I wanted a toaster oven that would last as long as possible I’d be looking for one that has mechanical controls.

  I have one by Breville that I'm very happy with. I've had it for over a year and the quality is excellent. It replaced a Calphalon toaster oven that broke after just a few years of regular use. When I compare the two, it's clear that the Breville is worth it's higher price point. It's sturdier, better insulated and has fans to help the unit cool down after use, and it heats more evenly. It also has a far greater capacity which allows it to essentially replace my gas oven.

  Burr Grinder Recommendations

  DF54 or DF64 if you're willing to measure and use the amount you're looking to use right there and then. I've got a Breville, Baratza, and a DF64. Started with the Breville, upgraded to the Baratza, that broke and I replaced it with a DF64. The base model DF54 and DF64s use a large brushed induction motor with the grinder bolted to the shaft of the motor. When switch fails someday, you can wire any old switch to it. If you ever get a bag of beans with a rock in it and don't catch it, you can replace the burrs. QC can be an issue, you just need to check it when you buy it, make sure the balance isn't terribly off. If it's fine and the machining is fine, it'll probably last a lifetime.

  Look this might be controversial but I have over 30 coffee makers , all but 1 or 2 of all of the SCAA makers on the market and the MM only makes my top 10 AFTER the shower head mod. My Aarke, Ratio 8 Zojirushie(Best thermal carafe on the market)Wilfa,Kitchen Aid Proline all surpass the MM IMHO. The MM will without a doubt last longer than most due to the copper boiler but I dont care about that when Im making my brew. A Bonavita will serve most peoples needs without the hefty price tag although I will take an older one over the newer ones due to cheaper components in the newer ones.The Breville is good and the option for cone or basket brews is a nice feature.. Best looking the Aarke wins hands down according to my guests but thats not something most care about..Again if you go with the MM get the shower head mod from Coffee Pilot in Canada for $30 plus shipping. Just my opinion everyone has their own opinion on these otherwise the market couldn't sustain so many high end makers. Happy Brewing!!

  We are in the US. Sorry you’re dealing with this, We went through this a couple years ago. Pans: all clad copper core. Love them. Very nice upgrade from our old pans. Other kitchen items we splurged on: breville espresso machine and toaster, vitamix immersion blender, vitamix blender, wusthof knives Mattress: big fig king mattress with adjustable base. Most comfortable bed we have ever had. Adjustable base is amazing.

  I've had the cheapest 3-qt Instant Pot crap out on me, but my current higher end Instant Pot (I think it's the Pro) has been going strong for five years now. Would definitely recommend. That said, I think any multicooker from any big brand will be just as good. Breville, Instant Pot, Crock Pot, Ninja, etc. You can also get a manual stovetop pressure cooker, but it's not much cheaper.

  What purchase changed your habit?

  A Breville ControlFreak It made me start cooking more. Expensive AF for a plugin cooktop, but I have ADHD and Autism which has historically made cooking on the stove a nightmare. Having exact temperature control on my stove is amazing. No pots boiling over because I forgot about them. No more ambiguity about what setting "cook on medium high" means for this particular pan on this particular burner. Want stuff to not stick on my stainless pans? Great, no guessing how long to pre-heat and when to lower it, or water drop tests or any of that crap. I just googled what temperature the leidenfrost effect happens, set it to that, and wait for it to beep. There are definitely cheaper cooktops that purport to have temperature controls but I've found them to be at best a vague suggestion if they work at all (last one I had set to 350 when it burned my avocado oil with a 520 degree smoke point). TL;DR it took almost all of the fiddliness and "going by feel" away from cooking on the stove, which are things I *massively* struggle with. I hardly ever even touch my actual stove anymore unless I need multiple things going at once.

Had it for 5+ years and hasn't missed a beat. Even when it needs a chemical descaling clean you don't need anything special, you can just put a bit of white vinegar in the tank and run a few cycles, even the manufacturer recommends that if you can't get the brand name shit to clean it. Fucking bulletproof seriously. And even if it dies, ffs it's $~300 I'd just buy another one. They do nicer versions with automatic tampers and touchscreens and crap, but meh I'm good!

  Most of my daily wears I didn’t know would just keep going. I have an Eddie Bauer spring jacket, some pairs of shoes, my backpack from college, long sleeve promotional athletic shirts from annual races my job supported that I never ran. All going on 15 years old, with signs of wear but no signs of wearing out. I do bring my shoes to the cobbler every so often. A breville electric kettle that just keeps going. All my daily use pots, pans, corelle plates. The pencil sharpeners I installed in my house on every level. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve managed to buy good things that with a little bit of care, have survived.

  Vitamix blender, Kitchenaid mixer (or attachments for it, if I already had one), Breville automatic tea maker. I've had my Breville for 10 years of daily use and it's still going strong. Good sheets and towels. Maybe not technically buy it for life, but they'll last a good few years to a decade if you take care of them. If either of you sew, a Reliable Velocity iron. I know Rowenta is the long time gold standard, but I've used professional gravity fed systems that weren't as powerful as the Reliable. It has been going for almost a decade with no hiccups, as well.

  I bought a combination pressure/slow cooker that can also saute, reduce etc. the Breville Fast/Slow Pro when it was on sale with an extra discount code as well. Best kitchen thing I’ve ever bought and makes me wish I’d not wasted the amount of money I did on my Thermomix as I use the fast slow pro way more often. Nothing like setting it on a Sunday morning and having an amazing slow cooked stew for dinner and meals for the week

  Breville espresso machines make excellent espresso, and are a great machine to make espresso at home or get into the hobby. But they are pretty far from BIFL unfortunately.

  My breville barista coffee maker. The number of lattes and cappuccinos we have made has paid the machine back many times over. Also, our almond cow. It’s a fancy blender, but great for making plant based milks from any nuts/grains of your choice. Way easier to clean than diy cloth strainer methods. We use it every week for oat milk!

  I've had the same Breville kettle for over 10 years and I use it every day. It has temperature control, but my favorite feature is the temperature hold. Boils fast and is super easy to clean. I paid around $100 US. It's the second one I've owned solely based on the fact that I lost my last one in a breakup.

  Looking for the best electric kettle that won’t break the bank + long lasting

  If you have a sensitive palate, then temperature control is more important than if you just always use boiling water for cooking. I’ve had a couple of Fellows (a Corvo EKG and a Stagg; I liked the Corvo more because the spout has better flow whereas the Stagg is a bit more limited and controlled). These offer temperature setting for teas, pour overs, etc. for more control. I also have a cheaper Breville soft top (I think that’s what it’s called) which does the trick and won’t break the bank. It’s lasted a few years and is a good workhorse. I’ve heard decent things about some of the Cuisineart kettles but never used one myself.

  BIFL kettle recommendations

  Mostly power rating (3kW vs 1.8kW), but as a result the whole market is different. I can confidently say, in the UK and EU, go out and buy a Bosch kettle, or at the bottom end of the market a Breville - but they don't sell the same products stateside. A full grain leather belt, or Darn Tough socks are the same wherever you are, a plug in electrical appliance, particularly a high power one like a kettle, is more localised.

  What’s your best lazy-but-functional home upgrade?

  We have the Breville Express Impress espresso machine, which is amazing and comes with a built-in tamping mechanism but it cannot be programmed to turn on automatically in the mornings. We bought a SwitchBot to attach to the “On” button and scheduled it to turn on at the same time every morning. I’d imagine you can use the SwitchBot for many other useful purposes as well.

  Breville BDC650BSS, used daily since purchased in 2017

  I had one for 5 years and it died. I contacted them for assistance and they said no repairs or parts, but gave me like 25% off a new one. I've had that one for 4 years now, but am actually selling it to a colleague tomorrow. I turned him onto the same one, but his didnt last more than 2.5 years. I picked up a new Moccamaster for $100 on FB. That's what I'm switching to. My sister and my parents also have the same Breville. Theirs haven't died after probably 8 years. Its a decent pot, but expensive and requires a lot of maintenance. It regularly jams. Honestly the only reason I've used that Breville for 9 years or so is because it makes a great single cup of coffee and is almost as convenient as a Keurig.

  I've made 9000 cups with a breville 920. Bought it in 2016. Its awesome and fully serviceable which is rare for home appliance, but i have replaced seals and a small circuit board myself and the parts cost hardly anything. Plenty of coffee machine repairers can service them too.

Makes excellent espresso. Low maintenance. I’ve tried many more expensive makers and I can’t see the value in much more expensive ones. And I love a good espresso.

  If you’re dropping up to $300 on an air fryer, you’re in prime territory for getting something that’ll genuinely make your life easier (and make you wonder why you didn’t upgrade sooner). The Breville smart oven air fryer is definitely a high end choice. It’s basically an air fryer + toaster oven hybrid, so if you want something that looks sleek and does more than just air frying then go for this! But if you want a straight up air frying powerhouse, the Ninja foodi dualzone is AMAZING. Two independent baskets mean you can cook different foods at different temps at the same time (no more waiting for round two of fries!). The Cosori dual blaze is is also really nice. It has heating elements on both the top and bottom so you don’t even need to flip your food mid cook.   I partially disagree based on personal experience. While it’s likely NOT a BIFL product, I’d still recommend a Breville machine to a first time buyer. I bought a Breville when I became hooked to espresso in 2016 and never had the first problem with it. Always did the routine maintenance and gave it to my folks after 7 or so years. Still works fine today and I no longer have to buy espresso when I visit.

  If you want easy and BIFL, get a nespresso pixie and one of their milk frothers. If you are going to get a semi-auto machine and grinder - keep in mind that its a hobby and it will be 6-8 months before you start pulling the kind of shots that you're proud of. Gaggia Classic, Profitec, Rancilio, Rocket, maybe Breville here. For grinder - Bartaza Virtuoso or Vario. On the fully auto side, Jura will probs be just outside your price range. Terra Kaffe TK-02 is. I own one (was a gift) and its fine but probably not BIFL.

  My BIFL trio. Worth every penny

  I'd such with the encore over the Breville SGP, especially if you upgrade the encore to their M2 burrs. I have experience with both and, while the SGP looks better and is a little more quiet, the encore gives a better grind and is repairable.

  Came here to say this. After our Nespresso bricked I bought the Breville, it's been used multiple times daily and has not failed us in close to 10 years. The ONLY issue we've had is making sure the hole on the bottom of the cup is dry, or it will beep 3 times at you.

  Breville has been pretty good because it is entirely metal. We were concerned with the plastic pieces from the other brands, and it has been working well.

  Everyone else has said this but how can a pod based coffee machine be buy it for life? Even ignoring the waste created, what if the pods get discontinued or the format changes? Look again. Buy it for life is an espresso machine like an entry level Breville. Even entry level is pricey. For cheap it’s a decent quality coffee pot machine. Not life but will last a long time. Pods? No. And even if you’re a fan why lose a Nespresso and downgrade to Keurig? If you must use pods at least buy a Nespresso because you already know you like it…

  Exactly! If I didn't have anything and just wanted something reliable, and there was a cheap Breville going on Facebook, I'd probably just grab it. You're right that they do last a long time, I've had Breville kettles that last for 5+ years and then eventually cark it from our hard water. But I'm sure if it wasn't for the water, it would last a long while. The Silvia definitely gives more "pro" feels to me. You have more control over the steam wand and can adjust the pressures in the machine, it just feels a lot more open to interpretation. However, the Breville is very user-friendly, which is what a lot of people want for their first 'proper coffee' machine.

  I’ve had my Breville Precision for a couple of years now. Choosing the “gold” option is very good, but you also have the option to create and save your own settings for water temp, bloom time, and brew time. I’ve only started tinkering with those settings along with grind size with my Breville Grinder and I have absolutely noticed an improvement by going beyond the default settings.

  If you are grinding for an espresso machine. Don't do it manually because you'll get tired really quick. Takes a long time and the quality is also bad. Hario grinder is a good option for medium to course grind. Good for something like Hario V60 or French press. If money is tight, I'll go with the cheapest Breville grinder. Usually costs around $100. It's good enough for most people and it'll last for a very long time.

  I have a Breville Barista Express but my in laws have a Rancillo Silvia and I drool with envy every time I use theirs. It makes a better cup of coffee. Not sure why but maybe because it has a larger diameter coffee holder because it can blast even steam across a broader area so you get better extraction from the beans. Their Silvia is also around 20 years old gets beat up and not cared for with nearly daily use and is still rocking. That said, I use my Breville around 4 times a day for the last 5 years and it's still going strong.

  Aeropress. It’s essentially BIFL as it has only four parts. If I’m travelling somewhere I just chuck the aeropress in my backpack with some ground coffee. The paper filters are easily reused. I rinse mine under the tap and reuse it for ages. Maybe I’ve got shit taste buds but I can’t tell the difference when I start using a new one. At home I use a breville espresso machine, but I think the milk it is capable of frothing makes more of a difference than the coffee itself.

  Time to upgrade toaster from a 60+ year old GE to a new Cuisinart. The GE still works it's just getting a bit flaky, needs a new spring and where do you get parts for a 60+ year old toaster? BUT I'll keep the GE for when the Cuisinart dies and will find a spring.

  I've been satisfied with my 70-year-old Sunbeam Radiant automatic toaster (gently lowers and raises the toast). Recently decided to upgrade to one that took larger slices of whole-loaf bread. Bought a Breville Bit More toaster as recommended by Consumer Reports magazine. I love it. It takes huge slices, clamps the bread to center it for toasting and releases it when done. And monitors the toast temperature to match your preference. Thin or thick, toasted the way I like. Glad I got it.

  I was going to recommend Breville, I have a simple glass kettle. No fancy lights or different settings, and “cordless”.   If you have the room for it, buy a BOV900 (Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro) and don’t look back. Worth every penny and I’d buy another at full retail if it broke tomorrow. The one you linked to is fine as a toaster but if you want an oven replacement I would get the Smart Oven Air Fryer (Standard or Pro vary in size).

  Yes! You’ll never regret it. We use ours every single day. We cooked a turkey in it and an 8lb pork butt for pulled pork. It’s a workhorse. Get the smart air fryer pro model so it’s tall enough to roast a chicken/ turkey. I can fit a 9x12 casserole dish in there too.

  Echoing a lot of the sentiment here, I'm also a happy Breville toaster oven owner. I've had mine for like a decade or so now, and it still works really well. It toasts bread at least a couple times a week, and does other baked goods (cookies, lemon squares, pies) and dinners (roast veggies, traybakes) once a month or so. I've even roasted a chicken in it! Same complaint about the buttons (the start button seems to toggle the temperature F/C unless I press it just right) but overall very versatile, esp. if you're only cooking for one or two most of the time.

It has worked great for years even though I shattered one of the upper heating elements. You cannot replace them on my model (or I haven't been able to find the right part yet).   Yes. Use it more than our oven. I have to buy new stickers for the dials at some point because it has lasted so long we cleaned the labels off. Perfect for small batches of cookies, bacon, small sides etc. It toasts well too, but does better with something like a bagel than a small piece of bread.

  I've had a smart oven BOV900<some more letters> for about 5 years now and I would probably buy another one. We use it more than the big oven because we're just cooking for 2 people. It heated perfectly evenly for a couple of good years of being used at least once per day. It now has some slight hot and cold spots, but nothing major. I did have to take it apart to replace a door spring about a year ago, which was a pain in the ass to figure out how to do it and I had to find a third party part because they do not sell much of anything in the way of DIY replacement parts.  I don't use all of the features like dehydrating, but the rest of the capabilities all work as advertised. I will say that the air fryer capability is not quite as good as a standard countertop air fryer with a basket with a handle that you can shake. If you shake the basket in the smart oven, you're just making a mess for yourself to clean up later, and it doesn't jostle the food that well anyway. But other than the slightly inferior air fryer and that one small repair complaint, I'm pretty happy with it overall. I live in a very hot climate where we run the AC like 9 months out of the year, so there's a lot of value in not having to turn on the big oven very often. I will probably always have a product like this one on my countertop.

I went through 2 other toaster ovens (one of them a Cuisinart, can't remember what the other one was) that heated unevenly, burned things, needed babysitting every second, in just a few years before deciding to spend more and get the Breville. No regrets -- it just quietly does a great job at everything, as a quality product should. I gave up my first one in a divorce and didn't think twice about buying the exact replacement for myself.   I had a 4 slicer and loved it. I moved to the UK and now have a Dualit which is true BIFL (replacement parts). Whoever got my old Breville is very happy

  I LOVE my Breville toaster oven. We use ours constantly. I got one for my elderly dad and got each of my grown kids one as housewarming gifts. Ours is used every day for toast, heating things up, broiling, etc. I bake a couple cookies at a time in it. We heat up leftovers in it. It is just perfect. Ours is the smallest model, which can actually fit quite a lot. We’ve had ours for a decade and it is just now starting to show its age. One of the display lights burned out. But we still use it every day and will buy another when it dies.

  I love our Breville toaster oven. We had one for ~10 years before the convection fan broke. Everything worked but that fan. I moved and gave the oven to another family (we couldn’t move everything). Got a new Breville once we were in the new house.

  I have a BOV800XL and I’ve been using it for years. It heats evenly and the temperature is accurate. I have made it so, so many frozen pizzas in it. Anything that can fit in there cooks perfectly just like a mini oven, not to mention it can obviously toast things. It heats up faster than the big oven, too. I have mine on top of the microwave on a microwave cart, so it’s actually just more convenient to use because it’s sitting higher than the oven. I don’t even have to bend down to use it. The buttons feel cheap on mine, but mine is an older version and I think they fixed that on the newer ones. If you do end up getting one, make sure that you take the removable tray at the bottom and line it with tinfoil to catch all the stuff that drips down . I made the mistake of not doing that and my tray has so much burnt cheese and stuff on it. I took it out and used oven cleaner on it and the oven cleaner tarnished the shit out of the aluminum tray. It’s ugly forever now. I’ve had it maybe 8-10 years and it’s showing no signs of quitting.

  Yeah for sure, I tried to befriend all my baristas and it's always nice talking to a knowledgeable one. One of them was actually gifted a breville and he was very envious that I had a silvia. When buying cheaper home machines, of course there's going to be a different kind of learning curve, but it is incredible what they can output with a little bit of effort and patience.

  Time permitting, I have a Breville, but for a quick shot (or 2 or 3...), I use my Nespresso Vertuo. I don't do a lot of espresso because of the serving size. I usually drink 15-20 oz. of coffee at a time. Since your retooling equipment, I might suggest you give Bialetti a try first before you go for a high end machine. I have four of them in different sizes, but the 9 size is the best for my needs. It would also give you the option of branching out into ground coffee blends. They are inexpensive and easy to maintain, just don't put them in the dishwasher. Remember, "Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess."

  My Rancilio Miss Silvia has lasted for nearly 15 years and going strong. Has a single boiler, all brass couplings. Maintenance is cleaning once monthly, and replace a gasket every 6 months or so. Pull shots (usually we pull three in the mornings) then heat the boiler to froth/foam the milk. This machine does not do well with pre-ground coffee. I did buy a grinder also, a Breville Smart Grinder pro. In 15 years I am on my 2nd grinder. I buy Lavazza Crema e Gusto and Lavazza Crema e Gusto Forte - we go through about 1 bag per month of coffee. Over the years the bag cost $15 now it is about $24 but this is my monthly cost for coffee. Also, skim milk makes the most creamy foam.

  I dabbled in espresso machines had problems with a couple dying on my fast. As much as I enjoyed pulled shots, love my Bialetti and Breville Milk Cafe Milk warmer/frother. I like being able to set it up and walk away it saves time and for about $300 going on 3 years

  Bodum French press: broke one years ago, re-bought and it’s too simple to fail. Technivorm Moccamaster: workhorse for daily coffee and I expect it to work with regular cleaning and descaling for years to come (my previous Bonavita coffee maker also held up for years). Breville smart grinder: holding up well now for years, I’m concerned the grinder teeth are starting to wear, but still works well every day. Trying out a secondhand Flair espresso maker but seems to be sturdy. Hamilton beach kettle: bought for $20 and I’ve wanted a fancier gooseneck one but this one won’t die and works perfectly.

  I have had 4 breville toaster ovens (each one gifted to someone when I or they move) with the oldest being nearly 15 years old. they all still work with minimal maitinence (just normal cleaning) and the only real complaint being how hard it can be to clean the smell out of the air fry fan.

  Buying my first electric oven, help!

  I recently did my research for a Convection Oven. Long story short, I never found my ideal oven: Quartz+ Convection big enough to fit a whole chicken (or Prime Roast Rib). I liked the Wolf brand because there's no fancy electronics. However, it's not quartz and is lined with toxic non-stick. KitchenAid Dual Convection Countertop Oven - KCO255 https://a.co/d/gBJ39Oy This last one ticked most boxes in my wishlist. The only thing I disliked is the extra electronics that add more failure points than necessary.
