I’ve beat on this thing for 20 years. Toro 190cc 22” recycler with FWD
Big reason why is that Briggs & Stratton motor, it'll probably outlast the rest of it.

Gas Lawn Mower Recommendations?
10+ years with my Husqvarna with a Briggs and Straton motor. So far, so good. Just don’t believe them when they say no oil changes. Change the oil. All I have replaced is a pull chord.

Gas Lawn Mower Recommendations?
The key to that last statement would be to buy a good condition *2012* B&S again. Newer ones aren't the same.

Gas Lawn Mower Recommendations?
Honda, toro, Briggs, any of them a few years old will last decades. I have a Honda and a toro from 1990 that still run like a top. For maintenance the biggest Game changers for me- Make sure you are using ethanol free gas and run until dry when storing for winter. Occasional sea foam additive

Gas Lawn Mower Recommendations?
A mower with a flat head Briggs and Stratton is a good used option. New Briggs and Stratton aren’t serviceable…no oil drain, one piece plastic filter/intake/carburetor. Mowers with Honda engines are good. Harbor Freight sells Honda clones that are decent.

Gas Lawn Mower Recommendations?
I bought a $99 Briggs & Stratton mower from Walmart in 2012. My roommate mowed the lawn with it the first day. I was up to mow the following week and noticed sparks shooting out the muffler. Checked and it had zero oil in it. Asked the roommate and he said he didn’t know mowers needed oil. I put oil in it and it has started first pull every time since then. I live in the PNW and it’s lived outside under the eve of my house ever since and has had zero maintenance in 13 years. 100% would buy again.

Gas Lawn Mower Recommendations?
They've been making engines for decades, yes ...........easy to service, easy to maintain. Most folks with mower issues don't sharpen their blade, rarely clean it , rarely watch the oil, rarely clean the air filter. All simple things --- 40+ years on two briggs and stratton and 1.5 acres.

Gas Lawn Mower Recommendations?
Briggs and Stratton Engines have been around for decades. Toro. Keep blade sharp. Watch your oil--never had one die--ask me how i know and how many years the two mowers keep running (both self propelled)

Companies with reliable “right to repair” products: can we compile a list?
Most small engine power equipment would fit on this list, Toro and Briggs have significant dealer and part support, and a huge swath of cheaper third party parts. Same for MTD machines. Stihl, Echo, Husqvarna all could fit in this list as well. There are a million brands of generators and other equipment that all use Honda-compatible engines and parts

20 Year is, still mowing the lawn
I had a Snapper with a B&S motor go 20 years. The chassis gave up while the motor still started on pull 1. Local kids made a boss go kart when I offered up the engine to them.

20 Year is, still mowing the lawn
Yes sir! Can't beat a good ol' Briggs! I kid you not, I had a "Weed Eater" Brand push mower with a Briggs like that, my wife and I bought from Kmart new in 2008, before my kids were even born. I used it hard for several years until the deck rusted out and the wheel no longer stayed put. I really did not want to get rid of it because of how trustworthy it was! Fast forward several years the old trusty Briggs sat stuck in the back of my garage, not being touched and gathering dust, until two weeks ago my riding mower was not working no matter what I did. So I brought the old Briggs to work and had a buddy weld up the deck so the wheel fits like new again. Brought it home and the next day I filled up with new gas, pulled twice and it started right up! These bad boys are Buy For Life! Never pass on a free "broken" one. Chances are, a new spark plug and some new fuel will bring it back to life! Congrats on the great mower!

20 Year is, still mowing the lawn
Briggs and Stratton for life. Have a Toro (just like this) with a B&S engine going on 16 years now with one spark plug change, seasonal oil changes, and zero problems.

Best generator to buy for my situation?
That'll get you quite a bit actually, including some high grade components. Honda and Briggs & Stratton have commercial grade motors, the GX and Vanguard series respectively. High end alternator ends are typically Mecc Alte. You can't really get better, period. $3000 will get you up into the 6500W to 7000W area for output. You're going to see a lot of generators with pretty high ratings. Be aware that there is one unmistakable truth with generator power. Your kilowatt output will always be AT MOST 1/2 the HP rating of the motor. A 10 HP motor will produce 5kW of output, max. Any rating above this is 100% BS. The most efficient motor and the most efficient gen end gets you to 1/2. Worse products do worse. Engine displacement (their CC sizing) is a rough indicator of power, although companies like Honda will produce more HP with their GX engines that nearly every other brand and at most sizes of motor. The HP difference can actually be quite a bit too between a really good brand and some cheap brand for a given CC size. Honda engines are quite efficient. B&S Vanguard engines are very good too, although generally slightly lower in power. However, they tend to have fewer long term issues overall with years of use, but they're basically equal in terms of lasting a long, long time. In most cases you just go Honda as they tend to make a little more power for the size.
