  What Mattress brand has been as close to BIFL as can be expected?

  I think construction matters more than brand hype. Look for high-density foams (at least 1.8 lbs for support layers, 2.5+ for comfort) and proper coil gauges, usually 13-15 gauge steel. Brooklyn Bedding builds their stuff in-house so they control the materials and assembly. Their Signature Hybrid uses decent foam densities and they make their own durable coils.

  Yes, some hybrids do hold up, but it depends on what’s doing the cooling. If it’s mostly a cover treatment, that can fade, if it’s airflow from the coils and foams that keep their shape, it usually lasts longer. From a construction standpoint, brands that build in house tend to get this right, Brooklyn Bedding is one I often point to for that reason. Three years with stable edges is actually a good sign, most mattresses that won’t last show it sooner.

  I'm going to second this. Purple Pillow Harmony was amazing, but stupid expensive. I realized the core was what made it so great, and it's just talalay latex. I bought a couple Brooklyn Bedding talalays and absolutely love them.

  Oh sorry, misunderstood! I looked it up - Recliner is from Ergomotion. Mattress from Brooklyn Bedding. Frame, was a Japanese wooden one we fell in love at the store. It was a one-stop shopping at a mattress store called The Sleep Loft. We got two twin size mattresses so that hubby can sleep on an incline (head up) when he has acid reflux, while I can sleep with feet up, not head up lol When I get swollen feet from flying (compression socks help), I sleep with feet up and helps so much! Fixed in two days!

  You're basically sleeping on compressed foam and shot coils, so anything new will feel amazing. IMO look for denser foam and coils with a solid gauge, something like 14-15 for the body, heavier for edges. Brooklyn Bedding's Aurora Luxe or Sedona Elite both use higher-end foam specs and reinforced coil systems.

  For that hotel feel with good lifespan I think your looking at a hybrid construction with higher coil counts and layered foam systems. A king size should have at least 900+ coils IMO Brooklyn Bedding's Sedona Elite uses a dual-coil setup which mimics what higher-end hospitality mattresse

  IMO look for hybrid mattresses with individually encased coils and high-density foam. They should give you the best bang for your buck in terms of longevity and support. Factory-direct brands cut out the middleman markup, so you're getting better materials at lower prices. Brooklyn Bedding's Signature Hybrid is a solid example with good foam density and 8"" coils for good edge support.

  Best affordable mattress: which one should I buy?

  If there is one thing you don't go cheap on is a mattress! I know its a mattress salesmen pitch but it is true...Don't skimp on something you will be using 1/3 of your time and which has a multitude of impacts on your health. First you need to determine your predominant sleep position for firmness. Don't go all memory foam unless its a tempurpedic, and those are expensive. On the budget friendly side stick with combination of memory foam and springs, I can honestly recommend Brooklyn Bedding , I had the Auorora Luxe and I got the best sleep ever as a side/back sleeper who suffered from shoulder and back pain. Helix is their upscale brand and equally good with more premium materials. When we upgraded to a king size bed, we went with organic latex from Avocado.The good thing about the internet only vendors is long trial periods and no interest payment plans if you cant unload a few thousand on the spot. Costco is another viable option with their forever return policy also, and they have good prices on run of the mill mattresses. Stay away from mattress and furniture stores, quality is crap and huge markups.

  Honestly? Skip both of those and check out the brooklyn bedding signature hybrid instead. From what I've read, it's got that hybrid comfort with legit durability. People are still happy with theirs after 5+ years. The coil system is supposed to be great and it doesn't have that SINKING feeling some people hate about Tempur. The BM might be fine but it really lacks in long term support and tends to feel flat after a while.

  Brooklyn Bedding is sooooo nice. Life hack - get any decent mattress then just get a Brooklyn bedding topper and change that out every couple years for a couple hundred and not the whole mattress.

  How has the customer service been? Have they dragged their feet on sending replacement? So sorry you are having to deal with that. I bought a Helix and Brooklyn Bedding, and luckily no issues. We are happy with both.

  Are Tuft and Needle mattresses still any good? Are they still considered BIFL?

  Wouldn’t recommend tuft and needle. We had the mint hybrid plush and it was too hard and sagged after 2 years. Replaced it with a brooklyn bedding sedona elite and it has been perfect.

  Casper was bought out by Carpenter, Purple on the verge of Bankruptcy, Tuft & Needle acquired by Serta who went bankrupt last year... Boring Mattress :) Mattress shopping is overly complicated thanks to the industry, it's been like a gold-rush where brands import crappy beds from China and/or stuff their beds with gimmicks, call them MoonFoam™ and FairyDust™, and promise it'll change your life (ps. it won't). Lots of decent options out there, ex: Boring Mattress (founded by T&N founders)...has a protection plan (BoringCare™) on top of the 10 year warranty. If you FEEL like it stops supporting you within 3 years, we'll replace it. Beyond that, you're covered for a decade against defects. Otherwise, check out Helix, Brooklyn Bedding, DLX, or a local showroom. Don't overcomplicate it!

  Pillow Suggestions Wanted

  I too had searched for pillows with just the right support + give AND that lasted more than six months. I finally found it in The Original Mattress Factory talalay latex pillow. You can usually try them out in the store. They offer two heights. About $75.
