  Bury me in my blundstones

  Shame when boots and shoes do that. I have had old work boots do that in the last year. As for a BIFL Chelsea, I've moved on to a Canada West Romeos, it has a Goodyear Welt and the leather appears to be of good quality. Not significantly more expensive than blundstones for a shoe that can be theoretically rebuilt.

  Nice looking men's boots that will work in an office, but stand up to Chicago winters

  Agreed, but with the caveat that they're the minimal acceptable shoe for both scenarios. I used a pair of their "Dress" boots (basically the 1306 but with crazy horse leather) for that exact purpose for many years and definitely had some slip and falls. Maybe the Classic or All Terrain (Vibram) would do better. Obviously not actually BIFL, but mine lasted for the better part of a decade as my primary winter boot before I wore through the bottom. I've never tried them, but if I was in that same situation again, I might try the Canada West Romeos with Vibram 430 mini lug soles. They seem to be both dressier in design and have more grip.

  Thank you blundstone for 8 great years

  My first pair of blunnies did 5+ years in a machine shop (cnc, so not exactly hard use) and I was very happy with that. Was ready to get another pair but found some Redbacks locally on clearance and decided to go for it. Australian but actually made in Australia. Have high hopes for these! Blundstone changed manufacturing sometime between when I bought mine and when I was ready for another. No comment on quality as I may never know. That being said when these Redbacks die I plan on buying Canada West as I daily wear pair of Canada West chelseas non workboots and the quality is second to none.

  Thoughts on blundstones boots ?

  I also much prefer the Canada west boots over Blundstones. Unfortunately after a couple weeks of wear, I started having foot problems due to the shape of the toe box. (I’m typically a barefoot style shoe wearer) the leather quality is leaps above what you get on a Blundstone.

  For what is worth, I have Canada West boots— WM Moorby specifically— and they have been great. I bought them from the outlet store that is attached to the factory in Winnipeg. Great boots. Look good. Comfortable. Tough.

  Any “Buy it for Life” boot is going to be full leather and leather typically requires some sort of break in period. If you want cushioning in them you’re also likely going to need a separate insole that is easy to replace.  That said I own both red wings (Clara)  and Canada west boots (6807 Romeo) and they’re great (once things are broken in). I’ve had Blundstones in the past and I didn’t like them at all, I felt they were not worth the money I spent on them.  Please check out RoseAnvil on YouTube for breakdowns on boots and what makes them quality. He predominantly speaks of mens footwear but you can take those lessons and apply them to women’s.

  House of blanks for basics, Naked and Famous for denim, Canada West for boots. Not necessarily BIFL, but all good quality. Lots of great leather craftsmen here as well.
