  What the [insert cuss here] even IS a ceramic skillet/pan anyway?

  I’ve had a small set of green pans that were crap. I had a very old Spanish cast iron skillet from Spain that was enamel coated, similar to Le Creuset. It was my grandmothers, and I had it for years, before the enamel started cracking and chipping. I never knew the brand, or I would have 100% gotten another one. I have several Le Creuset pots, and they are very heavy and quite nice for braising or stews. I also have a Caraway large skillet with lid that is also very heavy. It has a more modern ceramic coat that is much closer to a non-stick. I like it more for the size and heat retention than the non-stick properties. Like you mentioned, you have to heat slowly, as you’ll damage the finish, but they are great in applications where you might not want use cast iron or carbon steel, and you don’t need high heat (a stainless steel soup or stock pot can stand up to high heat, if you need to sear meat or whatever, then back the temperature down, so it’s really more of a choice of what you want to use. I have both stainless pans and several enameled pans. Stainless is more versatile, but I like the ceramic stuff, and it’s really nice for long stews and braises, and it looks great when you have guests and are entertaining. I have one cheap non-stick pan that I use primarily for eggs, and it is a small ceramic blend pan that I got for less than $20 from Target or WM. I use a thin coat of oil, and when that pan gets messed up, I will donate and replace it. All the other pans will be with me for decades.

  I got the Carver deluxe ceramic cookware set. Completely PFAS free, handles high heat, and is way safer.

  Pots & Pans Cookware Set Upgrade

  Have you considered ceramic? I got the Carver deluxe ceramic cookware set. Way more durable than cheap non stick and easier than stainless steel. I paid about $250 for the full set.

  Favorite pots and pans set

  I got the Carver deluxe ceramic set. Non stick, no cast iron hassle. I paid like $250 for 9 pieces, I think it's pretty affordable imo.

  Healthy, slippery, quality pots and pans

  My goodness guys I’m 23 and hardly a chef I had no idea the passion this question would evoke. Gonna get a set of all clad stainless steel and a few Caraway or similar for eggs because I suck (which I now understand are not BIFL but at the rate I cook they will probably be close.) Thank you for the input!!

  Food Storage Containers

  Caraway is a brand that is ceramic with glass lids that have a silicone seal. We have some, only a year into it but they are holding up well. I do miss the visibility into the container from the side, though.

  I need new induction cookware I won’t have to throw away in two years.

  Buy It For Long Time Oven Mitts?

  Hey, hear me out - no oven mitt is really bifl. they all wear down eventually since you’re using them a lot and tossing them in the wash I like cloth ones (cotton or denim) cos they bend with your hand and give a good grip. Silicone can feel a bit sticky imo, but textured ones do better if you’re grabbing greasy or wet pans. and please skip the cheap mitts tho, they either melt or lose their padding after a couple washes. you can try the [caraway mitts](https://DealzSphere.github.io/Scout/?to=buy_it_for_long_time), they’re all cotton and double layered, so they hold up better after a bunch of washes. not saying they’re indestructible, but def less likely to fall apart in a few months.

  i live in a pretty hot city so i end up using oven mitts more often than most people probably do even outside of baking and like for handling hot cookware and they wear out fast. most of the cheap ones either melt slightly or lose insulation after a few washes. you can try [the caraway mitts](https://grassrouteguide.com/dp-B0C795JGJX) considering they're all cotton and double layered at that, hold up way better over time with washing. not saying they’re indestructible, but they're way less likely to fall apart in a few months.

  Ok so I’m totally lost - a lot of people saying ceramic skillets are a cheap gimmick that won’t last a year, others it is a good alternative to Teflon

  You should be checking out the caraway containers for sure. They're also glass (ceramic coated) and stack up nicely. They have lots of sizes so you can have your pick. My favourite part is that they’re microwavable AND oven/dishwasher safe. Not that im going to pop it into the oven anytime soon but nice to know that i can if i wanted to?!? They're not new in the market by any means and pretty good - i like all their kitchen equipment generally. BUT the catch is you have to be careful about the lids - they are NOT microwave safe, they will melt if you unknowingly and excitedly pop them in with the dish - dont learn this the hard way :)))
