  Restoration Hardware sofa or something else?

  They are now out of business, but we bought a used Henredon Couch and chair 17 years ago and are just now replacing it. We decided to go with Century Furniture to hopefully get us through the next 20 years.

  Looking for a recliner with 1,200$ budget. Any recommendations? And what should I be looking for?

  Too few details to start: do you want leather or fabric? Manual or power movement? USA or Canada? Fabric will be cheaper than leather and manual movement is cheaper than powered. $1,200 isn't a BIFL budget sadly. That is budget furniture, unless you're willing to buy used. See r/Frugal. BIFL or very close brands made in the USA would be Taylor King, Hancock and Moore, Century Furniture, Sherrill Furniture, Vanguard Furniture, or Stickley. Just as an example, a Hancock and Moore Cali Power Recliner in certain leathers from an online listing would be $4,729.73.

  Crate & Barrel isn't BIFL. 😆 The other poster got a very good deal, but that doesn't mean it's going to last 40-50 years. BIFL or very close USA-made sectionals start at $10,000. Sofas would be about $5,000 - $8,000 depending on size and upholstery mostly. BIFL or very close USA-made brands are Kindel Grand Rapids, Taylor King, Hancock and Moore, Century Furniture, Vanguard Furniture, Sherrill Furniture, and Stickley. La-Z-Boy and Flexsteel aren't BIFL. They've outsourced a lot of their manufacturing.

  Neither Ashley nor La-Z-Boy are BIFL quality whatsoever. Avoid. Flexsteel, Ethan Allen, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, and West Elm aren't worth the money either. The higher quality made in USA brands are Kindel Grand Rapids, Taylor King, Hancock and Moore, Sherrill Furniture, Century Furniture, Vanguard Furniture, King Hickory, and Stickley. I don't know your budget. But from most showrooms, expect to pay around $5,800 for a 90"-94" wide stationary fabric sofa from the suggested brands. (Assuming prices haven't greatly increased since early 2024.) You can check each brand's website for dealers in your area.

  In terms of higher quality USA brands, have a look at Kindel Grand Rapids (specifically their "Kindel" and "Karges" lines), Taylor King, Hancock and Moore, Century Furniture, Vanguard Furniture, Sherrill, and Stickley. Many American brands tend to be traditional to transitional in style, although there may be a few modern models. Himolla, a German brand, offers more modern styling. Their motion mechanisms (e.g., reclining, movable headrests, arms, etc.) are very high quality. High end European sofas start around $10,000 from the likes of B&B Italia. Other brands can get way more expensive (Poltrona Frau, Minotti, Baxter, etc.).

  Searching for BIFL Couch?

  You won't find a new BIFL sofa for $3,000 or less. I'd expect a USA-made 90"-92" wide fabric sofa to be $5,500-$6,000 in most showrooms. Prices may differ a bit since I explored them early in 2024. As for comfortable, I can't know what that means. But generally this is reflected by way of a foam cushion's Indentation Load Deflection (ILD) or Indentation Force Deflection (IFD). A lower number generally feels softer and a higher number feels firmer. As another person says, you will need to buy used to find BIFL. Kindel Grand Rapids, Taylor King, Hancock and Moore, Century Furniture, Sherrill Furniture, Vanguard Furniture, and Stickley are great brands.

  Searching for BIFL Couch?

  Avoid the box stores imo. With your budget go to estate sales and look for the high end North Carolina manufacturers. Companies like Century Furniture, Wesley Hall, King Hickory, Taylor King etc... these are made with real wood, high end fabric and cushions meant to last.

  Buying a quality couch that can last more than 2 years?

  You will not find a new BIFL quality sofa for $1,600 sadly. That is lower quality and low budget furniture. Flexsteel, Ashley Furniture, Ethan Allen, Thomasville, Broyhill, and La-Z-Boy aren't high quality. West Elm, Crate & Barrel, and Pottery Barn are typically mediocre. Article is likely the same. Higher quality or close to BIFL is Kindel Grand Rapids, Taylor King, Hancock and Moore, Vanguard Furniture, Sherrill Furniture, Century Furniture, and Stickley. These sofas are made in the USA with domestically made materials; the occasional motion mechanism and fabrics may be imported. I got a quote from a Mainline Philly dealer for a Taylor King "Taylor Made" (custom program) sofa. This was January/February 2024. At 92" wide in a "Plush" depth and Grade 34 fabric, it would have been \~$5,800 before sales tax. This would be a typical price from most dealers for the higher quality brands I mentioned above.
