I’m looking for a BIFL hoodie
+1 for the champ reverse weave. Never too hot in it. Can wear it alone or under my Patagonia nano puffer for cold cold days. As an aside, I stay away from flint and tinder brand. Huckberry is a marketing company at their core. I bought astorflex cityflex shoes from their site that I love but I also tried their flint and tinder 365 chinos and they were rigid and horribly cut. The only selling lint was 100% cotton. I tried carhart but it didn’t seam any better than my champion hoody. Honestly my favorite workwear brand is key appeal. It’s what carhart and Duluth use to be.

I’m looking for a BIFL hoodie
For a traditional hoodie, the Champion Reverse Weave is king. Very heavy duty, great fit, wears like iron. Flat out amazing. The most versatile hoodie around. Perfection. If you just want warmth and comfort, without any style whatsoever, the Duckworth Powder Hoodie is crazy good. It’s not very resistant to wind, but is otherwise super warm for a garment so light in weight. I put mine on in October, and take it off in May. Absurdly comfortable. I’ve tried American Giant. It’s as well made as the Champion, but it’s just too oddly shaped for my liking. Not designed for humans. Arborwear makes the heaviest and toughest hoodie, but beware of the hood. It’s designed to go over helmets, so it’s HUGE. You’ll need 5 hats to take up the extra hood room. So heavy it’s really only for very cold outdoor use. The Flint and Tinder 10 year hoodie was a major let down. It’s just a medium weight hoodie, like your average medium weight Carhartt. Total scam. If you don’t mind 1/4 zip, the Carhartt Rain Defender Loose Fit Heavyweight Quarter-Zip Hoodie is outstandingly solid. Somewhere between the Champion and the Arborwear in terms of weight. The extra mock neck collar keeps you super warm when the cold winds on winter kick up. This is an amazing hoodie for winter.

Champion Reverse Weave, I’ve gotten vintage ones on eBay for $40 and the quality is amazing. Dehen 1920 seems to make good things. I also have a few crewnecks from Real McCoy’s and the hoodies may be a bit more than your budget but the quality is genuinely amazing. The crewnecks are $200 but they’re so good I think it truly is 5 times better than a $40 sweatshirt.

What sweatshirts or clothing brands are BIFL in 2025? (Men's clothing)
Champion Reverse Weave sweatshirts are the closest you're going to get for BiFL. The fit is reasonably good, they hold their shape \[which is important in this garment\], and they withstand a reasonable amount of abuse. I suspect the best quality will be the "made in USA line" but my current one is "made in Honduras" and its a beast. Been running them for years. It **feels** like a well made product. The inside isn't French terry, but it's still soft and the side panels help keep the form intact. Over the years I have run through Russel, Hanes, Buzz Rickson, assorted loopwheeled stuff from Japan, RC, HoB, and dozens of others. I stopped here.

I have a lot of pairs so I cycle regularly and keep them clean of course, but my girlfriend even commented how soft they were the other day. What’s one thing you bought once and it’s still going strong years later?
If the company practices ANTI-right-to-repair then NEVER buy a new product from them. This is most of the modern consumer products sadly. New Apple laptops cannot be upgraded and repairs are actively prevented. If you plan to repair your own instruments (you should) seek those makes that have service manuals and schematic diagrams available, limited to older units often. Practice and learn to repair your own appliances and you can get many things almost for free. Follow auctions for commercial liquidations. If you see an appliance you recognize and would need that looks crude and lacking in bling then that is the type you should investigate. Check out the cheapest consumer thing (mixer, drill, laptop) and then look for a commercial version used at a lower price. You will be getting many times the value. A $200 laptop is plastic rubbish but a second hand $600 when new business laptop that is 2-3 years old will probably beat it in every way. Companies that had a long life and always made their own products are the best. Those that came and went make you wonder why they went and if you can ever find spare parts should the need arise. We have a Champion Juicer and it only has two moving parts and the machine itself is the motor so no extra plastic trim to pay for. If you get food processing stuff then avoid surfaces for liquids made of aluminium. Pans, steamers, espresso/moka pots, kettles whatever, If you can find "PYREX" (note capitals) oven ware or other low expansion glass (Corning ware?) select those, the "pyrex" (note lowercase) is toughened sodalime glass and will shatter at a awkward moment. Older test instruments from Tektronix and Hewlett-Packard are well regarded. An older industrial welding machine will probably outlast you while a cheap consumer unit may fail at any moment. I prefer to avoid flatpack furniture (IKEA) as they are not made to last. We have many heirloom furniture items that may be close to 100 years old made of wood that my grand kids could still use unless NWO has herded us all into 20m\^2 (215sqft) rental units.

Compressor for personal use?
It wasnt new to me, i was used to a bigger compressor to begin with. I plumbed it into a secondary tank, about thirty gallon. It does just as good with my sandblast cabinet, as Dad's big old ingersoll rand did. I bought it in 2018 from a local dealer (Quad-State Air in Greencastle, PA). I had been looking at Champion and Emglo, but this came highly recommended.

Best generator to buy for my situation?
We've got a Champion 3k and it's been flawless, starts on first or second pull every single time. Sits for months at a time, fires up and gives good power. The only complaint I have is that its loud. Our needs have changed and in the next year or two I'll probably get rid of ours and get a quiet inverter generator. If Champion is as even close to as quiet as Honda I'll probably go that route.

Definitely recommend an inverter. Powering just a few appliances won’t take much at all so you’d be better sipping fuel. As mentioned, modern refrigerators don’t pull as much as you’d think and lamps/other nice-to-haves should also work as well. We started with a small inverter Champion and it’s worked great. Very little maintenance and it powers fridge/chest freezer along with gas furnace.

Your budget is your budget, so for sweaters you are looking at deep discounts or secondhand. You can get great sweaters (Made in England, Made in Scotland, Made in Italy) secondhand for $50 and under if you know your measurements and are patient. I have multiple American Giant hoodies (as others have mentioned) that are YEARS old. I love them. They are a bit over $100 now. If you want a decent $50 hoodie get one from Uniqlo. I have two. They are fine. I don't care if they get shit on them when I cook. Or find something cool secondhand. People get pretty pure about synthetics, but a little polyester can help durability. I have a 90/10 Champion sweatshirt that's great. Paid $40 for it secondhand.

I have been wearing these shorts for 35 years on and off, and I am still in love.
I’ve only found them durable if the blend is like 80% cotton or more. Champion Reverse Weave is a good example. Otherwise I find cotton poly blends pill like hell even if they’re from reputable brands like Patagonia or Dickies.
