There's nothing better than Channellock. I'm biased being from Meadville, PA and grew up listening to the hammers echo through the city when we were out and about in the summer. They take extreme pride in their product and I wouldn't own anything else.

They are well used, but I never abuse any of my stuff, but yeah, these really do hold up extremely well. I double checked again and there's not a hint of rust anyplace, but that could be just from me drying them off any time they got wet.

For a rock solid USA made tool, the prices are shockingly low. I think my new one was $13 and the one I got in the 90s might have been. 20 something? ( Work was paying for it, so I went to the hardware store next door and picked the only adjustables they had, which were those. Safe to say I'm more than got my money's worth from them.)

I have 5-6 pair from the 70's. Used for everything imaginable. The finish is weathered to a dark brown, nor rusty, but the teeth and cutting edges are like new.

They are for me too. A tiny bit of WD40 will make them slick as hell to use, and then the tightness just gives you really good control over the tips.

More expensive than the low-end stuff you can find, but honestly they all seem to be significantly lower priced than, say, knipex. I got the kobra XS (way too small) and the next two sizes up ( I did not like the button adjust feature) They were roughly around $34 give or take, The channel locks I ended up getting were $13. The quality seems every bit as good between the knipex and the channellocks.

As another commenter said, a lot of the chinesium stuff won't break, but will instead break what you're working on. I agree with your sentiment for some special tools. But for basic hand tools, I suggest you rather just buy quality. You can get very good quality hand tools for very cheap if you do a little bit of research. They easily last a lifetime of light use... E.g. bondhus makes US made allen keys, practically some of the best quality in the world, for 16$ right now on amazon. Is it worth saving 2$ on a chinesium product? Channellock makes a bunch of cheap pliers in the US. Tekton makes nice US made screwdrivers, and most of their other tools are high quality made in Taiwan. It's not just where they're made, but if they're made in a first world country it's usually because they're quality made - little point in making low quality products with expensive workforce...
