  A few brands I'll probably stick with for life

  Tumi for backpacks. Bought mine 5 yrs ago it feels brand new even after daily use bringing to work every day and on every travel trip I've done Messermeister for knives Eddie Bauer for parkas. Going 10 yrs strong. Dooney and burke for purses/bags. Shockingly well constructed, my cross body small bag looks new and I've had it 6 years and throw it on my car floor Tempurpedic mattresses (obviiuouslyyyyy don't keep the same mattress for life lol but ours is 12 yrs old and feels new.   Crochet hooks and interchangeable knitting needles?

  ChiaoGoo Red Lace gang here - the join is so smooth and I've never had one unscrew on me even through hours of knitting. For hooks I'm still using my grandma's Boye aluminum set from like the 70s, those things are indestructible

  Crochet hooks and interchangeable knitting needles?

  As a knitter, I've noticed that the needle choice is extremely personal. Some brands that people enjoy are Chiaogoo Red Lace, Addi, and Hiya Hiya. Each one has its pros and cons. Personally, I have Hiya Hiya Sharps in both the large and small set. I'd start by asking myself what do I make the most of? For me it's lace, so I needed a pointier needle. Some prefer wood to metal, for that maybe look at Lykke. As for crochet hooks? I have my mother's old Susan Bates metal ones, as well as some new Bates in smaller sizes (again for beaded lace). The main thing to look at for the interchangeables is, I think, the connection. How do the needles connect to the cable? Some click, some screw. Is the join smooth? Can you deal with the screw type coming unscrewed? Also look that the cables themselves. Some have memory that makes them coil up. Is that something you can live with? After that, as much as the new design bothers my eyes, I'd go over to Ravelry or the knitting/crochet subs to ask what people like and don't like.

  What are your favorite niche BIFL items that are currently available?

  I have several sets of the Chiagoo interchangeable needles and highly recommend them. I’ve tried the Addi click turbos, Lykke driftwoods, and Lantern Moon. The Chiagoo are my favorites. They are well-made, smooth joins, and have the best cords.

  my chiagoo knitting needles were well worth the price when compared to the cheap bamboo set i had.
