Best Cooling Mattress that actually... cools?
I have a Chilipad. It has done wonders. My wife and I set different temperatures because I like to be cold and she likes it to be a little warmer. If you haven't already purchased something, I would check them out as an option. Similar to Eight Sleep but way cheaper and no membership.

Cooling bedding for hot sleepers with no AC
We have had Oolers for years (I used to have a Chilipad previous to that) and love them. They’re expensive but well worth it if you’re a hot sleeper.

What are some items under $500 you’ve made so far that changed your life?
It’s not under $500, but I would highly recommend the chili pad sleep system. I was/am a hot sleeper, and it has really improved my quality of sleep. I said it around 70° and get much better quality REM sleep.

Comforter or bed system for a hot, sweaty sleeper (with a not sweaty partner)?
My wife has been using a Chilipad for around 10 years. I wouldn’t call it BIFL because the mattress topper has a limited life time and they’ve changed out the connector which forces you to replace the cooling unit as well. Standard planned obsolescence. But it’s otherwise been successful at controlling her body temp. They periodically run 20% discounts, and at one time let you stack on the healthcare worker discount for a total of around 30% off.

Best Cooling Mattress that actually... cools?
Chilipad. Don’t waste your time with bedjet - it just blows cold air on top of you which I personally found to be uncomfortable and didn’t solve the problem of the heat that is trapped in the mattress underneath you. Chilipad circulates cold water in the mattress pad topper and you can set it to your desired temperature. And it gets COLD if you want it cold - like you could sleep in full pants and a sweatshirt and still be cold if you wanted 🤣. I’ve had mine for 5+ years and it revolutionized my sleep - this coming from someone who has been a bad sleeper most of my life! Plus for any woman whose body temperature is regularly changing throughout their cycle or once they start to enter peri/menopause, this is a game changer. If I go on a road trip I even pack mine up to travel with - that’s the level of addiction!
