Cosco (not Costco) brand step ladders have served in my house and my families homes for decades without issue. They often have them in stock at Target. I have a three step one with the little tray for tools or a paint can or whatever where a 4th step would be but they make all permutations.

#1 baby on the way. Which stroller would you recommend for a newborn that can ideally be used until age 3?
Unless you're planning on walking or running a lot with your child, I would opt for a $15 Cosco umbrella stroller. Given how much we used our 'big' stroller, it was not worth the price. It took up so much space in the car, and we have a huge wagon. For store outings, it was just as convenient to put the infant car seat in the bottom of the shopping cart. Some larger stores have carts with platforms that accept car seats too. (Don't try to balance it or strap it on to the 'seat' area of the cart.) There's at least as much storage left in the cart to rival the big stroller's lower storage area. Worst case, you two are pushing around two carts instead of a cart and a stroller. Our daughter started refusing a stroller (and the seat in shopping cart) at a bit after her 2nd birthday. I know not all kids are like that, but also consider the possibility.

What step ladder should I BFL?
I bought an aluminum, 3-step, ‘Cosco’ ladder at ‘Costco’. It may not be BFL, but it was $25 very well spent 15 years ago with no signs of needing an upgrade any time soon.

What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price?
79 bucks, Cosco convertible cart/trolley that can carry up to 300lbs. In 8 years, it has trucked it's way through 5 full moves, multiple furniture moves (including a neighbour's couch), IKEA trips, grocery runs from the parkade (in a condo), garbage & recycling every week, and everything else I can throw at it. This thing never quits and is proving to be indestructible. Best money I ever spent.

BIFL COSCO Step Stools - New and Old - Old one outlived 2 owners
Deaths were of natural causes. Original owner was in his 30s when the stool was new, died in his 70s. Second owner died recently in his 60s. I'm just taking BIFL literally here.
