  Any brand suggestions for a high quality packable down jacket?

  My partner has a Cotopaxi one which has held up better then many I have seen. But always wear something on the outside even if it’s just a windbreaker or something.  They really aren’t meant to be an outer layer and can rip super easily. Get some gear tape in case of rips.

  Tommy Hilfiger Backpack

  I’ve been using a Patagonia 28L multi compartment backpack that my company gave me back in 2017. It’s still going strong outside of showing some aging like the faded black coloring. I also use a Cotopaxi Allpa 32L for travel. It’s made of such quality material and worth the premium price, and comes with nice compartments for organizing your things. I can strongly recommend both products.

  Stylist (women’s) work backpack that fits a 16” laptop

  Are we the same person?! I am also a grad student with a 16" laptop and a 24oz owala!! If BIFL includes proper repair, then Cotopaxi is BIFL. I've had mine since 10th grade and with a few repairs and some good cleanings, she's still going strong. The repairs were all pretty minor, I re-sewed part of the strap that connects to a buckle and another small rip in the main pocket seams. Nothing noticeable unless you really inspect it, and the functionality is the same as the day I bought it. If you want something even more colorful and fun and a little smaller, they also have a 26L backpack that comes in surprise colors!   Cabin bag that last for years

  Depends on your location. Baggage sizing will differ between airline and regions. Are you talking about something which you onebag and put under the seat, or something you are allowed to stow overhead? For overhead I used a 40L Patagonia Black Hole duffle. The MLC is too big for European airlines. Under the seat I use a Cotopaxi Allpa 20L.  Soft bags are better as you can squeeze them into the sizers if you need to.

  Backpack suggestions?

  If you’re using it for school, Swissgear makes affordable, versatile backpacks with a lot of pockets for one thing or the next. I had one that lasted me 10 years before starting to rip. Ogio makes really good backpacks for office and school too. Mines lasted 5 years so far with a good amount of abuse and weight. But I find their stuff to be more expensive. There are plenty of other options that make more specialized backpacks. Outdoor/travel brands: osprey, north face, Cotopaxi. Travel specific: aer, tortuga, matador, evergoods,: the list goes on. I find these aesthetic but I think I would have preferred the extra pockets and all where I find these other brands make really nice bags for large compartments with some organization pockets that might be good for minimal use of office supplies and more packing space. Some of the smaller commuter backpacks might be good to use for school. But I still love my Ogio renegade for standard use with way too many pockets. I have a glasses case on top for my safety glasses. Two zip pockets on each side for everyday carry stuff. Water bottle pockets. One of the water bottle pockets holds zip ties and twisty ties. Laptop and folders of course. Main pocket holds all my bulky stuff. Two secondary pockets: one holds all my Office supplies. The other holds flatter objects that I need separated from everything else for one reason or the next. Unfortunately this is padded which you don’t like.

  Looking for the thinnest and most insulting jacket

  Down is the magic material you're looking for, with a waterproof shell on top. I like REI storm shells and LL Bean down layers as separates. Patagonia down sweaters, jackets, vests also popular. Cotopaxi down, very hip, nice stuff. For an all in one parka (less flexible but convenient if you're mostly house-to-car a lot) the Canada Goose parka is well made and very trendy for, like, a truly excessive number of dollars. Somewhat amused that the magic chat genie can't find you a popular jacket for a midwest winter.

  Cotopaxi has a similar situation. Ethically sourced down for low prices! Cotopaxi isn’t exactly BIFL  but I really don’t know anywhere doing LIGHT down jacket that dont leak feathers

  Best bifl for bag in this style? A lot seem mass produced and poor quality

  My Duluth Pack is 10+ years old and still looks brand new. From what I understand the company/owners went off the deep end politically speaking, which is unfortunate as the bags were handmade and great quality with leather/metal buckles. Another brand I like is Fjallraven, but they’ve become kind of a trend item. I’ve had the tote pack no 1 for also close to 10 years: used for school, work, then diaper bag, now weekend carry-all and the only damage it sustained was to the stitching near the backpack strap loops; the Fjallraven store repaired it for free, which is nice if you leave near one. The final brand that’s sustained a ton of wear and tear (but different from the style of what you posted) is Cotopaxi - I have one of the Batac backpacks and it’s held up great to many, many trips. The material is vinyl though, not canvas/leather.

  I took a 42L cotopaxi Allpa to Peru last year. So amazing! I just noticed the fanny pack Allpa - it finds in the top pocket of the backpack. I think I might have to get one.

  My Cotopaxi "Coso" 2L hip pack. I bought it for a trip to Greece, figuring I'd want to keep my possessions close in pickpocket-heavy areas like the Acropolis, the metro, and boarding the ferries. It has been SO DAMN NICE once I got home. Going to a picnic? Running an event? Attending a protest? It's so much more practical than a purse - my arms are unencumbered, and it can take a beating. I can wear it 5 different ways: to the side like a purse, cross-body either on the front or back, and fanny-pack style either on the front or back. So versatile.

  Men's rain jacket that's actually waterproof

  100% agree. I got a Cotopaxi rain jacket for Christmas 2 years ago. It’s my go to rain jacket. I took it with me on a trip to Disney World one summer. On my first day there it poured down rain for like 8 hours straight. It was hot as hell and felt like a tropical storm. Best day I’ve ever had at Disney lol. Everyone left the park, was completely empty. Rode some rides twice in a row just cause I could. My pants and shoes were soaked all the way through.  Took my Cotopaxi jacket off and my shirt was completely dry. It was incredible lol. Legit had me googling “does Cotopaxi make pants?” I could not believe how well it held up in that heavy of rain, and it wasn’t too hot considering it was like 90 degrees in Florida.

  The Best Backpacks for Travel Available Now?

  I’ve had an osprey daypack for like 15 years and it’s in perfect condition. I also got a Cotopaxi duffle for a 2 month backpacking trip and I liked it so much I bought their 26L backpack. It is so nice. And I like it better than the Patagonia equivalent which I’ve also had. They’re both so sleek in all black too and pretty inconspicuous

  I’m a huge fan of cotopaxi’s backpacks. I bought one for my son. We usually had to go through one backpack a year bc he’s so rough with them, but this one has been a trooper! We haven’t had to utilize this yet, but they also do free repairs if anything breaks.

  Brands you swear by that have Buy It For Life quality products

  Streadler mechanical pencils LEGO Liberty tabletop flatware - from the kids stainless steel to adults I’ve been amazed at the quality Redland cotton sheets Brooklinen towels - holy crap I ordered these with my bedsheets (I didn’t find the sheets impressive) but I am obsessed with their towels. I don’t understand how they’re not famous for their towels. wecks jars for leftovers - they have a replacement for the rubber ring and a glass lid I’m coming around to Cotopaxi since it’s repairable like Patagonia Patagonia for my winter coats and luggage Reima kids outdoor gear, I got some used and my two kids used it. We passed it on and the winter coats and boots still look brand new. You’d never know they were on their 6-8th kid at this point. Blueland refillable hand soap containers. My kids have been abusing them for 7 years and they still somehow work perfectly. They’re made of glass and have been dropped on my tile floor a handful of times and still somehow didn’t break. Adidas backpack - got this after frustration with beans crappy gear now on clearance at tjmaxx and it had a lifetime guarantee. It’s 3 years into my kid abusing it and is holding up amazingly well for a bag I only bought because it was pink and 3 weeks into school and I was tired. Ball canning jars - they just have it figured out Franklin well pumps (not buy for life so much as better product with better longevity). Other than that, local artists crafts I tend to find have amazing quality. Cutting boards, furniture from carpenters, cabinet makers tend to have the best and I go there first. I had a carpenter make me a coffee table and 4 adults could use that as a bench. It’s so sturdy. I’ve been fairly impressed so far by little adventures kids dress up clothing. They’re machine washable and years later actually are doing extremely well which is amazing for kids dress up clothing. I won’t know if it’s really BIFL level until it’s passed down to 6+ kids through my friends and they report back. So far 2 kids and approximately 4 years later it’s still going strong and has the gems and glitter still. I know underwear shouldn’t be BIFL but Hanna Andersson kids underwear is phenomenal quality There’s are companies who I previously considered for their longevity of products not always BIFL who have compromised quality and I no longer recommend them: Primary kids clothing - bought these in the early days of the brand and their kids cotton dresses have gotten dramatically thinner Llbean - dropped their guarantee on products and my kids backpack in preschool fell apart 3 separate times. She was 4 and it only carried a folder. My 2005 llbean was misused, overfilled and worn excessively and is in amazing shape. They suck now. Bombas socks - wear way faster now. My 2017 socks are in better shape than my 2023 socks. Gould well pumps are absolutely shite now

  Idk if it’s everywhere but I have a 42L Allpa Travel Pack. It retails for 240 but I got mine during a huge seasonal markdown for 150. They also sale used gear on their website. So far, I’ve had this bag for 4 years and besides for a few scuff marks here and there, it’s solid. It definitely is carry-on compatible and can even fit under the seat if packing on the lighter side. It has both hip belts and shoulder belts. I’ve packed up to week of clothing in this bag with two pairs of shoes. It can get a little tight, but it’s definitely capable. I also backpacked with this bag on a 10-day Japan trip and didn’t feel fatigued by carrying it around for the 10 days. Cotopaxi also does repairs on their gear and if they can’t repair it, they replace your gear with the same or similar model. Def BIFL.
