What winter gear do you recommend?
Boots and wool jacket from LL Bean , or Carhart. Overalls from Carhart, or the ones from tractor are decent. Lined leather gloves w\wool liner. Ariens snow blower or Cub. I have lived in legit upstate for many years.

My grandfather purchased this 1974 Cub Cadet new. 50 years later it is still pushing snow. Mostly original, except for a few parts. The paint is all original.
I am the second owner of a 1974 Cub 108. My Grandfather also bought it new. From 1974 until 2020, almost weekly it mowed 1.5 acres. My father is not sure if it still has the original engine or not, he thinks my Pappy had the engine replaced at some point in the 80's as he wore the original engine out, but my Grandmother doesn't remember that happening. She gave it to me in 2023 after a new JD riding mower was bought for my Mom to use. I still have it at my house today, it still drives and mows. We did finally replace the rear tires this Spring as dry rot had finally got them, although they still held air. I've never been into the engine during my life time, and all that I personally know has been replaced is two starter / generators, deck belts, and an idler pulley. Stored inside all of its life, it looks virtually brand new except for some scratches and dings from 50+ years of mowing, hauling firewood, yard work, etc.. I also have an 1960's Cub Cadet 100, I am unsure of the exact year. I purchased it earlier this year. It is crustier looking and has great "patina". The mower deck runs and isn't even noisy, but I took the deck off and it is in the garage for a restoration project one day. I know nothing about the motor on the Cub 100 except it runs perfect and doesn't knock or smoke. Rear tires are dry rotten and one has a slow leak, I am going to replace the back tires with Ag Tires and make this one my "mini tractor". The only other garden tractor I can think of that was this heavy-duty built, and absolutely built to last were the case ingersoll tractors. Yours looks great!

My grandfather's 1964 cub cadet he purchased new. He used it regularly up until the early 2000s. The family decided to get a full restoration done on it. After a year, it's ready to go another lifetime.
Yes, I have the same one. I have the cupcake at 1315 model and it’s a 1991. I put a little long cart behind it.

I've had my Cub Cadet 3X for or 7 years now, not issue whatsoever, works like a charm!

FWIW I bought a cub cadet from Costco many years ago. Mechanically it’s a beast. I literally have to be careful not to blow the snow from my driveway onto my neighbors driveway! That said, the cheap plastic shoot arm sucks! The crank stopped working the first season as did the arm cap that angles the throw. If that were metal like others I’d highly recommend.

Briggs and Stratton engine. Everything else isn't a part that makes a huge difference. And get a 2 stage plus one of those shitty little electric ones. The 2 stage is too much for tiny snow fall but fuck shovels (my back just can't). Also I got a 2 stage cub cadet and when there is a big enough snow to bother lugging it out, I do my neighbkrs drive and walk too, they have a regular shitty snow blower that can handle stuff and one of them is elderly. The 2 stage slides right through, it's barely any extra work. The cub cadet has a carb problem where the nozel will get clogged. You can fix it by starting it for a second every couple weeks, or you need a little poke thing to clean the nozzle from the bottom of the carb from fuel float area. It's tiny af tho. No idea how to make it stop doing that but essentially it gets clogged and blocks fuel delivery.
