What’s a small upgrade you made that ended up being way more impactful than expected?
i used rechargeable AA battery for my cheap Daiso milk frother. On my 2nd year and still going strong.

Something you didn’t expect to be BIFL but outlasted your expectations?
10 years ago I bought a tiny frying pan for ¥100 at Daiso. Have only ever used it to fry a single egg at a time. It's been used many hundreds of times, surface still looks new. Granted, I am very careful with it, but still. Also have a vegetable slicer/mandoline I bought the same week for the same price, and it's still doing a great job

Soy sauce bottle rec?
Do you have access to a Daiso? They have the absolute best bottles, and they're common household items in Japan so they're well-tested. But the classic Kikkoman dispenser is [beautifully designed](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DAql-cPyB3Z/?hl=en) for ease of use in 2 ways. You want a small one, though, that you'll go through quickly, because the spout allows some evaporation. At the stove, I use a bottle with a [twist top](https://www.amazon.com/BRIGHTFROM-Condiment-Squeeze-Bottles-Squirt/dp/B09FVCRK8V/), actually I recycle my sriracha bottles with twist tops for this. You can also use small twist-top bottles at the table if aesthetics aren't an issue.

Any Japanese item collectors here?
Might not be what you're looking for, but do you live near a Daiso? [https://daisous.com/pages/store-location](https://daisous.com/pages/store-location) Stopped by one while on travel. It's like a Japanese "dollar store", where you get Japanese made stuff that's decent quality (better than US dollar stores) for about $1.50 give or take. If so, a gift card would make a fun little shopping trip.

Recommending the Japanese nail clippers
Seki (and Mehaz but german) have been the best for me. Muji was my travel go to but they seem to not make the smaller one anymore (kept losing them or friends and family would take them....) . Daiso was a pleasant surprise (though probably made in China) but will see with time how they last.
