  For real LL Bean Norwegians, buy vintage made-in-Norway with the dense black-and-white snowflake knit and a tag that reads Made in Norway for L.L.Bean. Search eBay/Poshmark with “L.L.Bean Norwegian snowflake,” “Made in Norway,” and filter to sold listings to see fair prices; set alerts and be patient. Check measurements, not size tags-they run boxy with long sleeves; compare pit-to-pit and back length to a sweater you own. Inspect elbows, armpits, and hems for thin spots and moth holes; a couple tiny holes are fixable, felting or shrinkage isn’t. Expect itchier, rustic wool-plan a tee or thin merino base. Hand wash cold with wool wash, roll in a towel, lay flat; a sweater stone handles minor pilling. Under $120 is solid; mint or rare colors can hit $150+. Good alternatives if listings are dry: Dale of Norway and Norlender for similar weight; The Sweater Shop Aran is my pick for windy walks and rough wear.   I very much agree. One of my most prized articles of clothing is a Dale of Norway sweater I got at a Salvation Army for $13. It was very easily a $300 sweater at one point. The great thing about sweaters is that the the best quality ones usually don't have much in the way of branding on them so people assume they are just knitted junk, but to the trained bargain hunter, they are gems waiting to be found.

  Options (Articles of Clothing) When Layering For Cold/Windy Weather?

  Outlier and Dale of Norway are the only two of sufficiently high quality I would recommend. I also really like Son of a Tailor and Wool&Prince but they are not quite as high quality as the first two.

  Circa 2006 my mother bought me a pullover sweater from Dale of Norway. It was unexpectedly cold and we picked it up at the closest store. Nearly 20 years later, I wear that thing every winter. Miracle garment.
