Let’s Talk Wirecutter: What Was Worth It and What Wasn’t?
Heating a single drinks amount of liquid, one serving of soup, but honestly I mostly use it for melting butter. Every time a recipe would call for melted butter, I used to try to microwave it. No matter what setting it seemed like the butter would splash or explode. Now I have perfect melted butter for recipes. Plus garlic butter, drawn butter, ghee, etc. 😝

I love the Dansk butter warmer, I have two (both gifts) AND my quibble is that the little spout is on the correct side only if I am pouring using my dominant hand-I can’t pour with my non dominant hand and use a silicone scraper in the other to get all of the whatever out because the spout ends up on the back side! I know I know 1st world problems

Is there a good reliable effective technique to polishing quality steel flatware that you want to keep for life?
Good to hear that you made some good progress. Try diamond paste next. It comes in various grades.

What’s a kitchen item you bought once and never had to replace?
Krups 2000 hand mixer from 1987, old Pyrex 12 cup mixing bowl, Henkel knives from 1985, Dansk cutting boards (classic) and a few pieces of Dansk Købenstyle bakeware. My parents loved Dansk. I was also lucky enough to inherit very old cast iron.

Best style or brand of non-stick pan that isn’t harmful?
Two other categories that are 100% Safe and BIFL: * Enameled-coated Cast Iron (*Le Cruset, Dansk)* * Carbon Steel *(De Buyer, Oxo)*

Unpopular Opinion: "BIFL" as an excuse for overspending
My blender from the 1950s, my cheese grater from the 1930s, my can openers from WWII, my corn fritter cast iron from the 20s, my mid century cookie cutters and pressers, my vintage Pyrex, my 60s Le Creuset and Dansk enamel ware, my 50s glassware, 1940s Navy handwarmer handle-less Corning coffee mugs, my old Melmac Texasware, my antique silverware, my 1980s enamel colander I bought at Pottery Barn, my old Marie Callender pie tins I use for nachos and breading, my old old Tupperware, and my extremely old unopened bottle of bootleg prohibition whiskey that's in my cupboard just to look at for kicks.
