  Who makes good umbrellas?

  putting out a research here - went through the same cycle of buying new ones annually until i switched to a different approach the issue with most golf umbrellas (even expensive ones) is they're designed for RAIN, not dual-purpose. here's what i learned: why golf umbrellas break: 1. solid canopy = catches wind like a sail (even vented ones can flip) 2. absorptive fabric = traps heat when used in sun, degrades material faster 3. single-purpose design = you end up needing separate rain + sun umbrellas what worked for me: switched to UV-Blocker golf umbrella (62" arc) because: - vented mesh system - wind passes through, not just vents at top - reflective fabric - bounces heat away (vs absorbing), extends material life - dual purpose - rain protection + sun/heat blocking (UPF 55+) - fiberglass frame - flexible, doesn't bend permanently like cheap metal durability test: i've had mine 3+ years, daily use (i walk to work rain or shine). zero frame issues, fabric still intact, no fading the tradeoff: - cost: $70 (mid-range, not cheap but not davek/blunt prices) - warranty: 1 year (less than davek's lifetime) - aesthetics: only silver/blue (no fashion colors) - brand awareness: virtually none (not on anyone's radar) why it's lasted: the reflective coating isn't just for UV - it prevents heat degradation of the fabric. regular black umbrellas absorb heat → material breaks down faster → shorter lifespan also MIF (melanoma international foundation) approved if you care about sun protection, which i do as a daily user not saying it's definitively BIFL (only 3 years in) but it's outlasted 5+ "good" golf umbrellas i burned through before for pure rain, davek or blunt are probably better status picks. for daily all-weather use, this(uv-blocker) has been solid!!

  Companies with good warrenties that they actually honor?

  Davek umbrella! I got mine from gilt around 2011 and the handle broke a couple years later (friend forced open a door it was propped against and snapped it). It was such a good umbrella that I kept using it with half a handle for 10 more years until I realized they have a solid warranty and they replaced it for the cost of shipping ($11) last year!

  Umbrella (Davek or Blunt)

  Both are solid Davek solo feels more refined compact and still tough while blunt metro is bulkier but engineered to handle wild wind. In Melbourne I'd lean Davek unless you're in constant heavy gusts.

  Have had 5 Blunts and a Davek for many years, not a single issue with any of them. Bonus, Blunts are also repairable.

  Blunt umbrellas: for life or for next month?

  I've had the best luck with Davek and ShedRain. The latter isn't as well-built as the Davek, but if anything happens, they stand behind the warranty and send you a new one. When we lived in Puerto Rico, I went through like seven umbrellas per year and ShedRain never once disputed my claim.

  This became my umbrella when I was in first grade. Now it belongs to my own first grader.

  Look into Davek umbrellas out of NYC I’ve got three different size collapsible ones and the golf umbrella been atleast six years and they are made to not break or invert great warranty etc

  I have 3 of their umbrellas, the mini is tiny but nothing special, the solo and duet are great. I bought mine 10 years ago and they are just like new.   Yea. I've never actually lost an umbrella in my life. I've been buying Totes for decades... for less than $30, but my last one just broke after maybe 15 years. I'm in the market for a new one and every store I went to was sold out (hadn't gone yet to the store I always have gone to buy them) but for the 1st time and considering getting the Davek and splurging on an umbrella. While I've obviously made it this long with the Totes, I will say it will invert in severe winds AND more of an aesthetic annoyance: the metal frame inside rusts.

  Love my Davek! Saw them on CBS Sunday morning years ago. I received one as a gift in 2017. I just recently submitted for a replacement under their warranty and got a brand new traveler for free (just had to pay shipping). They really do hold up well.

  Good to know. After 20 years, I'm about to replace my Totes Mini. The material is beginning to disintegrate at folds. Other than that, some minor spots of surface rust on the arms. Mechanics are fine. Has seen a lot of use on several continents. I know darn well they don't make them like they use to, and will not buy same replacement. Looking at the DaveK Mini. They seem to offer a quality umbrella, and good warranty. BTW, there is a 10% coupon code available at their site. I'm prolly gonna go for it. Thanks for the post!

  Very small wind proof umbrellas for traveling.

  It has a lifetime warranty. What's not to like? Just hold on to that coupon for 50% off if I remember correctly in case you lose the umbrella.

  There's several lifetime guarantee umbrellas. Google lifetime guarantee umbrella. What is there to lose (unless you lose it)? I have 2 Gustbusters. No complaints here. There's also Totes, Davek, Shedrain, and more through Google.
