What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
Both consumables but — Cerave lotion. I get itchy winter skin but most lotions either don’t help or make me feel icky. Cerave works and sinks it quickly. Dawn Powerwash. In addition to getting my dirtiest dishes clean, it also takes care of the stove, scuff marks on painted walls, mystery clothing stains.

What is the equivalent of "Apple removed 3.5mm jack" of your favorite products ?
Don't buy Platinum. WinCo still sells OG Dawn.

2025 Christmas Thread - Best Christmas gift ideas?
If I but anything life changing during the year, I usually will buy a few for Christmas gifts as well. Last year it was scrub daddies and dawn powerwash, and folks really loved them. This year it will be a couple of kinds of cheese, mini jams, olives or cornichins, and crackers or bread, maybe a small box of chocolates. Not expensive, and always appreciated.

What product would you seriously stockpile if you found out they weren't going to sell it anymore?
Dawn dish soap

Way to fix the Dawn PowerWash bottle?
I know I’m late to the party, but this happened to me and I just unscrewed the entire top and soaked it in really warm water and let it sit for 30 minutes and it started working again. As mentioned it could be the plastic springs that break, but if not, sometimes the soap gets caught up in the top portion of the sprayer and clogs it. Hope this helps! 🙂

What is your most unintentional BIFL item?
I moved out of my parents house in 2006. I still have and refill the same bottle of dawn dish soap that I first bought for that apartment. It will be 20 years old next year and I kinda want to do something to celebrate lol

Inherited my grandfather's 1950s cast iron skillet - still my go-to for Sunday breakfasts
im going to assume this is a legit question lol i use blue dawn soap / spray and wash on mine everytime i cook. my routine is.. 1. let cool after cooking 1. wash with hot water and soap. using a chain mail scrubber if needed otherwise a scrub daddy. 1. towel dry. 1. place on stove on medium heat letting it warm to finish drying out the metal. 1. oil it with oil of choice over the entire pan. 1. wipe off excess oil and store slidey eggs are slidey.

In Florida from Scotland right now, is there anything practical that I can pick up whilst here?
Dawn Powerwash spray. I believe it’s cheaper here and you can clean loads of things with it. You can also buy a bottle of dawn dish soap (or use Fairy) and make refills at home once it’s empty.

I messed up and need help
Use Dawn platinum, lay jacket out on the counter and using a soapy brush heavily dab. Don’t scrub with the brush, only your hands. Rinse under warm to hit water. Repeat.

I messed up and need help
I would load it up with some dawn dish washing detergent let it sit for. Few hours.

I messed up and need help
I would try dawn power wash. Patch test it first. I was costume crew for a stage play that involved literally buckets of blood every night and heavy duty degreaser was the main thing we used to get the costumes clean.

Do you buy eco-friendly products?
i do use some "ecofriendly" products, but there are some normal products that work so much better, and in mi mind, no worse than the suposed better for the eco. as you generally have to use a lot more of the weal products..you can't beat products like Dawn, and cold water tide. i wind up using way less, than the others. IMHO.

But I thought it was BIFL 😭
You’re wrong. I use Dawn on my cast iron every day (sometimes 2-3 times) and it shines like glass with a nonstick seasoning.

What to buy for upkeep of house as a 22M?
Buy a good broom and dust pan. Do not "lean" the broom to store it-- hang it up. You don't want to mangle it by leaving it on the floor in the corner. I also NEVER use my "inside" broom outside on the patio/deck or door step. I have a less good/old broom (or get a nice push broom) for the outdoor chores. Or one of the straw brooms. I like those for outside. Also - I discovered the Dawn spray dish soap recently (few months ago). That stuff cleans everything! Inside the oven (check); counters, dishes, hands, etc. I use it on anything washable (not for Stainless steel appliances - get a special SS cleaner for that). That being said, keep a little bottle of standard blue Dawn (with the chicks on it) near your laundry station. It gets out greasy stains from anything you need to wash. We have problems keeping olive oil off our clothes, apparently.

Spilled coffee on a canvas bag, looking to try to repair it. Any suggestions for subs that may help?
Dawn dish soap and a vinegar rinse does wonders for a ton of stains. I’ve even used it to help get loft hair dye out of clothes.

Not knowledgeable with washing clothes - spilled salad dressing on carhartt jacket and I’m not sure how to clean
Can confirm. Running family joke that I can't NOT spill something on myself at least once a day. Dawn is the GOAT for salad dressing and oils.
