I never want to buy cookware again
Here is what I have: All clad sauté pan (the larger one not sure of size) - amazing. The single most used pan in my kitchen other than my carbon steel skillet. Matfer Bourgeat 11 3/4” carbon steel frying pan - my other most used pan, I like that it doesn’t have rivets, instead the handle is welded. Super easy cleanup, you don’t know what you’re missing until your sponge can do a whole wipe around the inside in one motion. Demeyere Saucier 3.5qt - just got this one and can’t say much about it. It’s extremely well built, also welded handle with no rivets. Research the differences in a saucier and sauce pot. The saucier wins most of the time because of the rounded bottom sides. Dutch ovens - very useful, I would skip doing a cheap one like I did. I got the tramontina set from Costco and the enamel is chipping around the edges. Save for the Le Creuset. Check out prudent reviews on YouTube. This guy has reviewed like every pan. Also check out America’s Test Kitchen on YouTube. They review the best cookware as well.

Absolutely, 100% correct. I've tried numerous other brands over the years and none of them compare to Demeyere. Especially the Atlantis line. That stuff is god-tier.

I've tried many of the top end brands and the absolute best of the best for stainless is Demeyere. All their stuff is fantastic, but the cream of the crop is the Atlantis line. Virtually perfect in every respect.

This is the way. I used to do All Clad, but Demeyere doesn't have rivets on the inside that are hard to clean like All Clad does.

I purchased the demeyer atlantis set a couple years back. Its fantastic but a bit heavy. The demeyer proline looked quite good when I was comparing and was lighter. I went with the atlantis cause I have an induction stove and that one worked the best with induction. It works great and im never going to need a new pan again.

I never want to buy cookware again
If I had to rebuild from scratch (it's just me): - Heritage Steel Eater Series 2QT saucier. I have a Demeyere I5 2 QT saucier now and use it as my pasta pot, saute pan, and stock pot. Would only change because of the handle. If any manufacturer is listening, make one of these with a helper handle and I will buy it right now. This is the pan I use most often and am generally dumping water out of. - no 6 size cast iron. Pick whatever brand. Lodge works, I prefer Field. Smithey and Stargazer are also fine choices, but Stargazer I do not believe makes this size. I was curious about Borough but they aren't worth the price IMO and have a few flaws. The lid from the saucier fits onto this size cast iron, at least mine do. This is the cast iron piece I use most often as it is exactly the same size as my burner and usually big enough for whatever I am asking it to do. I would prefer Field make a larger helper handle but I rarely pick this up anyway. Have yet to meet a carbon steel pan I love. Either the handles are enormous and/or uncomfortable or as was the case with my Darto they spun like mad. All the special care required for cast iron without enough thermal mass to be worth it. - no 10 cast iron if you're making two big steaks or most recently made vodka sauce in it and dumped the cooked pasta into and combined. - 10" stainless steel fry pan. Do NOT recommend Demeyere here, the handle was so heavy on my 8" it would tip if you ever let it go. All Clad, Heritage Steel, or Made In would all make me curious. Here the handle is what matters most to me. I don't own one of these as I have not come across anything I haven't either used the cast iron or saucier for. I personally would buy this last if I felt it was missing. - buy a lid a la carte for the 10 cast iron from a restaurant supply company either in person or online. Had the cast iron lid from Field for I think my 8 and sold it, never used it and was way too heavy for my usage. If I wanted something to stay warm in the same pan for a while I'd feel different. Your mileage can and will vary. This is what has worked for me.

I never want to buy cookware again
The dishwasher safe request may be the only reason I avoid All-Clad since OP never wants to buy again. While I definitely throw some of my All-Clad stuff in the dishwasher, I’m not expecting more than 10-15 years before the edges become razors (and that’s using it relatively infrequently compared to my Demeyere Atlantis and Falk cookware). All-Clad certainly meets the other criteria, but I might lean towards Hestan in this case for the sealed edges and similarly light weight.

I never want to buy cookware again
All-clad stainless steel d3 or d5 for frying pans, saucier, sauté pans. Alternatively (same high quality but harder to find : demeyere) Staub or le creuset for Dutch oven and roasters If you want carbon steel, go for de buyer. But I find it more finicky than stainless. Lodge makes perfectly fine cast iron skillets. Good to have one in your arsenal. Not my favorite type of cookware at all but it has its use. There are more expensive alternative but I consider them more as luxury For stoneware, Émile Henry (made in France, not China like le creuset) Now I hear that madein does quality stuff too, but I haven't tried myself. Same for Hestan culinary. Stay away from gimmicky stuff like hexclad etc... I avoid non-stick, I only have one that I exclusively use for eggs (yes I know stainless steel works for eggs too but 🤷♂️) Now I would recommend you do NOT put your cookware in the dishwasher. Even the stainless steel stuff. Overtime it makes the surface more porous and you end up having to do some sort of seasoning on it. Just soak and hand-wash. Same for Dutch ovens or carbon steel. Stainless steel saucepan are fine in the dishwasher because you're never gonna sear anything in them so the surface doesn't matter as much.

Fissler Pure Collection Review
No - Demeyere pans are made in Belgium. Fissler are made in Germany. Demeyere is also heavy and thick. Like the Pure the handles are also welded making it easier to hold. Basically - people complain most about All-Clad handles. You won’t until you hold a superior handle then you say “yep, I get it”. The top tier for both brands have thick bases & are workhorses whilst the thinner bases heat up more quickly. The pure collection used more recycled metal (for folks concerned w sustainability) & updated the look, made the handles easier & more comfy to use & are considerably lighter than the original ones. Tramontina - made in Brazil or china & folks say quality changes depending on where Other notable pans are Hestan - made in Italy. All-Clad made In USA - unless you have the copper or the cheaper 3 clad you have to wait the same to watch it heat up. The quality is about the same but the loyalty is that people like what they like. Most folks use a mix of every thing. You’ll find All Clad or Viking on sale here more. Miser made in Shanghai Heritage - USA Made-In - various & some folks say the quality depends on which factories it’s made in (USA, Italy, France) Emile Henry - made in France Cast Iron: LE Creuset - France (except for their stoneware - made in china) Staub - France (except stone ware) Lodge - USA

A stainless steel skillet or stock pan and a pot for an induction cooktop
Demeyere Atlantis or Fissler Original Profi would represent the best BIFL option for the stated job. These were really designed around induction and their performance is reflective of this.

Fissler Pure Collection Review
They are not related, but Fissler is comparable to Demeyere in terms of quality, and the flagship stainless lines of each company (Original Profi and Atlantis) arguably represents the best stainless cookware you can buy, and arguably by and far the best cookware for use with induction, offering significant advantages over a traditional 3-ply construction. Design-wise, they use very different design philosophies on their flagship cookware.

What have you used the most at home these two years?
I have a bunch of the items everyone in the comments are mentioning. But I’d say my favorite BIFL purchase is my Demeyere stainless steel pans. Buy one pan at a time if you have to until all your old crappy ones are gone. They’re easy to clean because they have no rivets and I’ve used them almost every day for about ten years now. I also bake a lot so my best electronic kitchen devices are 1. A really high quality kitchen scale, and 2. Ankarsrum mixer

About to buy the most expensive set of pots and pans in my life
I'd check Demeyer, Meyer, and Made In to see if they could be cheaper. They will either be better quality or the same, but if you can save a bit for similar or better, then I'd go that route. AllClad should last at least 20 years, but so would most decent brands. I'd also consider which pots and pans you really use instead of buying a set. Sometime its cheaper to buy the ones you use. Good luck.

About to buy the most expensive set of pots and pans in my life
You are absolutely right. I had almost this exact All Clad set for almost 20 years, and when I bought it, we bought it specifically because the pots were advertised as able to be washed in the dishwasher. Over the years they developed very sharp edges. A few years ago All Clad started recommending that you not put these in the dishwasher because they found that this could happen, but they did honor replacements for existing pots if you still had your receipt. Luckily, we did have the receipt. We exchanged our old set for a brand new set, used it for a bit, then gave that set away and started buying single Demeyere pans. The difference is astonishing - Demeyere such better quality it is not even close. Although All Clad gets credit for allowing us to exchange the old pans, I can't go back to using them.

Dishwasher Safe Stainless Steel Pots and Pans
My Demeyere Atlantis is so gorgeous - and expensive and cooks so amazingly well - that I’ve not yet dared to put it in the dishwasher. Should be fine but I hand wash and touch with a bit of Barkeeper’s Friend.

Dishwasher Safe Stainless Steel Pots and Pans
If your budget doesn’t allow for Demeyere, All-clad and Made-in also make great pans. In my option the Atlantis really shines on high BTU output stoves. Especially gas and induction. They feel a bit overkill to me for a standard electric stove. They are also very heavy, and that takes some getting used to. I’d worry about using my big Atlantis pans on a glass top range. You wouldn’t want to move it around much. My 5qt sauté pan weight as much as a cast iron Dutch oven.

Dishwasher Safe Stainless Steel Pots and Pans
Depends how much you like your relative. Demeyere Atlantis/Proline is truly top of the line and has a sealed lip so it’s also dishwasher safe. Pretty much any stainless is dishwasher safe-ish though. The sealed lip is the key thing to look for on clad cookware though to ensure it won’t run into problems years down the line

What's the best cookware you've ever had?
Another vote for All-Clad - we bought ours some 20 years ago and they’re as good as they day we got them. Bought a set initially, soon realized the error of our ways and over time gave some away, and added a couple of their 5 ply items. Passed them on to our son when they were moving out last year. That also taught us never to buy a pre-configured set. Buy what you need and actually use, spread the purchase out if you have to. Replaced that with Demeyere Atlantis (we were doing a major kitchen reno, so ended up splurging on a few things) - this is at another level altogether. 7 ply, heavier but excellent heat distribution (and no rivets on the inside), feels about as close to cast iron as stainless can get. We love cooking, and this cookware has been a joy to use. We did manage to save a few $ by not getting a set, and only the items we wanted. Had to do that over almost a year, to take advantage of sales/specials, but pretty happy with where we ended.

What's the best cookware you've ever had?
A few brands that will never steer you wrong: All Clad, Demeyere, Hestan, Mauviel 1830, Ruffoni, Staub, Le Creuset, and Lodge. My tip: buy individual pieces as needed. A cookware set can include a few things you rarely or never use. A good fry/sauté pan, a ~2 liter saucepan, and a stock pot are a very good start. Plus lids.

I need new induction cookware I won’t have to throw away in two years.
There are lots of options out there. I use induction and here is my set: * Sauce pans: * Cuisinart MultiClad Pro stainless steel pots * They are cheap (\~$30-40 each on sale Amazon), built like tanks, and more than adequate for sauce pot related tasks. I have multiple sizes from 1.5 qt to 4 qt. * You can buy these in a set, but the MCP frying pan is reputed to not be as great as the sauce pans. I'd buy one or two to see if you like them rather than getting the set. * Saucier: * Demeyere Industry 5 Saucier (stainless steel) * It's expensive ($200 on sale), but also built like a tank. It has fantastic heat distribution, so it's my go-to for things like sauces and caramels where really even heat makes a difference. You don't need this pot, but if you cook and want something really nice it's a good pot to have. If I could only have one pot, this would be it. * Frying pan: * Demeyere Industry 5 10-inch stainless steel frying pan * Expensive ($180 on sale), but great heat distribution * Mauviel 9 inch carbon steel frying pan * Cheap ($45 on sale), requires maintenance like all carbon steel, and not recommended for acidic foods, but great non-stick seasoned surface for meat and eggs. Unlike non-stick cookware, the non-stick surface is from seasoning, so it is non-toxic and can be fixed if you scratch or dissolve it. * This shouldn't be your only frying pan. There are enough things it's not good for that you need a general use stainless steel frying pan in addition to this. If you don't want to spend the money for the Demeyere frying pan, the Tramontina 10 inch multiclad stainless frying pan gets really good reviews and is fairly cheap. I would also check out Century Life's page on induction cookware if you want good reviews. He does really in-depth reviews on induction cooktops and cookware, and gives fantastic advice. If it were me, I'd start with a couple Cuisinart MCP sauce pans and the Tramontina frying pan. They are cheap but BIFL quality. If you can, I'd wait for Black Friday, as cookware tends to be \~30-40% off. Stainless is hard to damage unless you drop it or boil salted water in it, but starting with cheap-but-good pieces lets you make mistakes without damaging expensive cookware. They will let you see what you like and what you don't like, and give you a better idea of what you specifically want before you drop $$$ on more specialized cookware.

Just get anything quality made of ferrous metal. Which pretty much means cast iron or stainless and not aluminum. Lodge Logic is heavy but tough and cheap as hell. All Clad is the premium American product, and you can get great deals on seconds with very minor blemishes from various places. Or Creuset or Staub or Demeyere or Mauviel or DeBuyer. Any of this stuff is built like a brick shithouse and should last generations if it's not abused.

Best to do individual pieces You can get all clad from the factory seconds sale and save a good bit that way. Keep in mind that if you get ones without sealed rims you can't put it in the dishwasher but you should be hand washing all your pans anyways. For a step up from all clad I would look at demeyer Atlantis or Pro line. Dutch oven I would want enamel cast iron like staub or le creuset. Zwilling does a bunch of factory seconds sale for staub. Hestan nanobond is fantastic if you want something somewhat nonstick that's super durable. Carbon steel is also non stick but doesn't work with acidic foods and needs to be seasoned like regular cast iron. Debuyer is great but you also have fancier brands like blanc creatives and smithey.

Looking for wedding registry ideas.
Go for quality pieces over sets for sure. No knife set, no cookware set. Here’s my recommendations so far. - Duralex Picardie glasses (timeless, still in production, super durable. - Corelle plates and bowls (they make strange designs, but they also have simple white rounded and squarish plates) Le Cruset maybe if you prefer the style. My grandma handed some down, so they last. -Oneida flatware if there’s a style you like from them. I think they have a lifetime warranty and my parents’ has still lasted my whole life, although I have had a couple table knives rust from the dishwasher. (Haven’t tested their warranty) - All Clad stainless 12in skillet D3 (I got the D5 because of a sale and I liked the brush metal). - All clad or Demeyere 3qt-3.5 range saucepan…something with a lip for easy pouring - Demeyere 10in saucier? (I got this massively on sale and it’s super heavy, but it kinda bridges the gap if I need a smaller skillet like surface, or a larger saucepan surface. The rounded edges make it perfect for, well…sauces lol. - Le Cruset Dutch oven (although, the saucier has a lid and can go in the oven…even fits a sourdough loaf!) - Asahi professional line cutting board. Natural color is cheaper than black. Maybe not quite for life, but it’s the closest thing besides an end grain cutting board which is much more maintenance. They’re beefy. They’re rubber with some wood in it, so avoiding the microplastics and the bacteria growth of other boards. You can fairly easily sand off a micro coating of it and haha a completely new surface as needed. - Get a quality chef knife (or Santoku or something if you prefer), paring knife, and serrated knife, and learn how to sharpen the former 2. (I’m currently learning on the Sharpal double sided sharpener…maybe practice on a cheap knife before your nice BIFL ones though lol.) - Nordicware sheet pans, bread pans, cake pans if you’re into baking. - Pyrex 3 piece measuring cup set (sorry I broke my rule about sets lol) - Kitchenaid stand mixer (if you’re into baking) - Hario V60 Pour Over Coffee Starter Set (the one with the plastic pour over piece) if you’re into coffee Might have other recommendations for rice cooker, coffee stuff, and cooking utensils, but it’s probably not as BIFL. Hope this helps! I know people love cast iron and carbon steel. Go for it if you like, but I really do prefer a stainless steel pan myself.

A list of BIFL not made in the USA
Zwilling seem to be good owners of companies like like Demyere, Staub and others. They seem to play the long game, and let the companies stick to what they’re good at. In the last 10 years, lots of great traditional BIFL product companies have been bought and then milked through all sorts of brand extensions, while losing focus on the product quality that originally attracted people to the company’s products. It’s death by MBAs, who will be long gone before the full consequences become apparent. I’m not sure whether that is what happened to Le Creuset, but their ever expanding product portfolio is a bit concerning.

stainless steel or enamel cookware
By enamel I assume you mean enameled cast iron? That really has no place outside of Dutch ovens. Anywhere else it’s kind of the worst of all worlds. Stainless should be the workhorse of any kitchen. All-Clad or Demeyere are top brands, but there are tons of good All-Clad knockoffs these days.

Stainless steel cookware recommendations?
Stainless steel is definitely a better option. It’s one of the safest and most durable materials for cookware- non-porous, so it doesn’t absorb flavors or bacteria, and there’s no coating to chip or scratch like with Teflon. Plus, it doesn’t react with acidic foods (like tomatoes or vinegar), which makes it super versatile. Imma toss in my two recs: 1) Demeyere Atlantis: I like it for the non-riveted handles. It’s super well made and honestly feels like it’s built to last forever. Total pro-chef vibes. 2) Alva Maestro: 18/10 stainless steel, no weird coatings or chemicals. It’s free from stuff like PFAS, PTFE, and PFOA, so you don’t have to worry about anything sketchy getting into your food. You might notice some sticking in the beginning if you’re used to nonstick, but once you figure out how to preheat and oil it right, it gets way easier.

Suggest for my kitchenware?
Demeyere Atlantis is my favorite cookware. My favorite knives are Wusthof Classic. You really only need four kitchen knives. You need a chefs knife, a utility knife, a pairing knife and a bread knife. For stainless steel flatware JA Henckels International Lani 65 piece. For plates, bowls and dishes, I prefer square shapes. They seem to fit better, in my kitchen cabinets. I bought two four piece sets from Target. I think it cost somewhere around $100, for two sets.

What BIFL items would you add to your wedding registry?
Quality stainless steel - all clad, demeyere, hestan or others. Quality kitchen knives, too many brands and options to be specific, it'll depend on you Flatware set Place settings (bowls, plates etc). We went with Villeroy & Boch but there's many good options Crystal glassware if you're into that Others already mentioned cast iron (raw and enameled) and carbon steel. Sorry it's all kitchen stuff but we love cooking so most of the registry was kitchen related. We did have some bedsheets and other items on there but I really do feel registry items should be *lifetime* BIFL not just quality.

Stainless steel pans
Nah, All-Clad is going to be functionally pretty identical to any of the millions of high quality clones you can get these days, whether that’s Tramontina, Cuisinart, Made In, etc. etc. If you want entry level stainless (which is more than adequate for most people), I’d go that route. If you want high end stainless, I’d still skip All-Clad and gravitate more towards Demeyere

I think some stainless steel pans warp on induction and cause a buzzing sound. You are better off with electric. I think Demeyere stainless 7 ply is good on induction. But check YouTube Videos before you buy. There are lots of reviews.

All Clad D3 pan set worth it?
I ditto the voice to not get a set. Get what you use. I set my heart on Demeyere Atlantis, otherwise I would have went d3 route. The Atlantis is an incredible pan. Blown away with the quality. 7ply vs the D3 3 ply. Takes a lot longer to heat up, but retain heat incredibly well, and cleans up extremely easy.

All Clad D3 is great, but imo if you want something nicer than that, you’re better off with another brand. Their copper core really doesn’t stand up to the competition. Falk has a significantly thicker copper layer, or Demeyere Atlantis/Proline is always a good choice

So is there really no non-stick pan that is safe to use as long as it isn’t chipped?
I have a selection of different pans, including a demeyere multiline and a de buyer carbon steel, but for nonstick I have a ceramic paj from Ikea (my wife refuses to learn stainless/carbon, and I sometimes prefer the convenience). Had the ceramic nonstick for about half a year, I dont think it will last super long (they often loose nonstick-iness despite not peeling). But it's cheap and pfas free.

hex clad pots/pans worth the price?
The majority of my pans are stainless steel - Demeyere or All Clad, but i prefer Demeyere. They are my everyday pans and truly are non stick but I don’t like cooking eggs in them. I have one clean nonstick pan from Scanpan and I like it. I would never use stainless steel utensils on it though…but I guess I only use it for eggs, super sticky sauces, or the occasional fish. Wooden spoon, spatula, etc.

NYT just put out a list of their BIFL picks
I don't really care for All-Clad, the handles are the opposite of ergonomic and I hate rivets in the cooking surface of a pan. I prefer Demeyere. The handles aren't perfect, but they're way better than All-Clad, and they're welded so it's not a bitch to clean on and around the stupid rivets. I agree with them on Haws, but the comment about the size is dumb. They make many sizes, just pick a bigger one.

What is a BIFL item/product you recommend?
I have the briggs and Riley Baseline carryon, medium roller (getting the Large/XL means you will be over the 50lb domestic (US) weight limit), and a cabin 2-wheel underseat roller. Great bags, although the wife wanted Away (seem nice so far, but not my preference). Tom Bihn backpacks. Took a week long trip to the tropics and the bag is a little unorthodox but it can hold a lot of stuff. And you have a variety of fabrics to select. Bose over hear headphones - great for travel and mine have lasted for awhile. For life is somewhat limited but its an electronic item that has a little tech, its a tradeoff. Sonicare toothbrush - It is like 10 years old on the original battery. Teeth are life. Agree with the Leatherman Wave+, good tool doesn't really excel at any one thing, but useful to have. Cookware: DeBuyer carbon steel country fry pan. I prefer this over cast iron. Demeyere Atlantis Fry pan - great steel fry pan. Allclad copper core (functionally similar to the d3 but I like the appearance of the copper line that shows through and I don't worry about cleaning it). I have watches. Mechanical ones are nice but as the old joke goes if you have to pick a watch to wear for the rest of your life what would you choose and no you can't choose your g-shock. NiMH batteries - where possible get rid of alkaline even if they are cheaper. They will leak and ruin your day and maybe even the device they are in. I choose Eneloops, the normal not the pro variant. Skip the LION batteries for now as they are 3.7v and require a voltage regulator to go to 1.5v, but if you need the 1.5v instead of 1.2v for the device meaning the NiMH won't work then the normal 1.6v lithium batteries would work. High quality LED lights - CRI should be 90+. They are a long term consumable but higher quality light is better. Knipex and Klein for tools. Knipex makes my favorite generalist pliers/wrenches. Klien makes great hand tools, I prefer the MiUSA options and use their linesmans for random things. Klien also makes a bottle opener, Wera does too and they are somewhat comfortable to hold. Clothes that don't have spandex. Spandex and elastic fail. I have had Patagonia fleece for 30 years and it still works. Randolph sunglasses - I just like them. Ray Ban 4140, they have spring hinges which means I can wear my spouse's and they have had theirs for 15 years although I had to buy new aftermarket lenses. Also discovered a french brand Cartel that also uses spring hinges, but don't know enough about this brand. Miele Washer and Dryer - gets rid of the vent ducting behind and they are solid if a little quirky. They canister vacuum is great. Converted the in-laws to this brand and they just went from the upright to the canister.

Stainless steel vs Hexclad pan set
Hexclad is a hilarious marketing garbage product. Honestly it’s sad how much honey they’ve taken from people for such a terrible product. Absolutely, 1000% get stainless + a carbon steel/cast iron pan or two. If you really want BIFL don’t buy from Costco. I don’t believe they sell any “fully clad” sets (I could be wrong) look at Demeyere, American kitchen or All clad. You don’t need a set, piece a few of them together of what you’ll use most.

BIFL cookware set? Hexclad, stainless steel, ceramic or what?
I feel yeah. We end up using the machine 50/50 or more on ours (Cuisinart) too. young kids, over worked, etc. A quick whip with a Dremel was enough to take the edge off. Only needed once every few years, I doubt I'll retire the pan in my life, unless I upgrade to a demeyere. But I'm much more likely just to keep adding individual pieces of cheap but decent clad cookware from discount department stores.

BIFL cookware set? Hexclad, stainless steel, ceramic or what?
Yes. Correct. I was describing the design of All Clads. Cuisinart and several other cheaper products are almost exactly the same design with the exposed cladding layers. Demeyere and several other higher end brands completely encapsulate the cladding layers with the stainless steel outer layer. All Clad makes a quality product, but it's only mid-range for the reason discussed. Yet they charge a solid premium for their name. In general I still recommend a cheaper mid range pan or skipping to a better high-end pan over All-Clad.

Cladded stainless steel cookware is the only cookware that gets sold in sets that I'd consider BIFL. There is no such thing as a BIFL nonstick--the closest thing we know is a well-seasoned cast iron or carbon steel skillet. I don't think it's necessary to spend Demeyere money to get cookware for life, there's plenty of commercial quality clad SST cookware that doesn't cost a fortune and works just as well.

My BIFL trio. Worth every penny
Yeah, that’s a good point I admit, I guess I’m very much accustomed to never leaving anything on the stove unattended. By the way, I’ve had so-so experience with All Clad (and Calphalon), I now use strictly Demeyere for stainless steel and DeBuyer for carbon steel. 5 years so far and so good.

What’s one product you bought that has lasted forever and was totally worth it?
I've got a pretty decent selection of Demeyere 5-ply and 7-ply pans. Half of them second-hand for peanuts. Most of the time they arrive looking a little ratty but with 15 minutes of cleaning and polishing using a stainless steel cleaner like the Demeyere or Bar Keepers Friend they look like new again.

A list of BIFL not made in the USA
Agreed that WMF makes decent cutlery, as well as some utensils, but besides those, they're not BIFL. Zwilling does it (far) better imo. It's not very obvious for the average consumer that DeMeyere is part of Zwilling, so I pointed it out specifically. SEB also owns WMF, Tefal, and Krups, just to name a few. Tefal and Krups are definitely not BIFL I think. I just eplied to your comment because it listed WMF and so did the OP. Don't worry about it, we're all here to learn and share our experiences! It's nothing personal :)

WMF does everything, not just pans. and I kind of have Demeyere covered, as it is part of the Zwilling group (like Staub). Mostly though: feel free to add it to the thread in a nice, constructive way. Most of us are posting brand names in between doing other, more important things in our lives. There will be small errors, and missing foot notes.

Buy Once Cry Once items?
Just a heads up that Demeyere’s most prominent lines are Industry and Atlantis but they have several sub lines that are just those with different handles and finishes (e.g., Intense, 5-Plus, Silver7). For standard flat-bottom pots I have Industry-likes which are closest to All Clad in construction. I also like their sauciers which are made under both Industry and Atlantis, which are rounded sauce pans. The only difference between them is the number of layers. I don’t really use the fry pans as I prefer cast iron.

The Demeyere Industry 5 set goes on sale every now and again direct from the manufacturer for about 30-40% off, and is one of the best on the market. I bought it back when it was called the Zwilling Sensation and I've been very happy with it for 5 years now. If you really want some of the best on the market, go for the Demeyere Atlantis line, but that's really getting into rich person territory even when on sale.

I did something similar at age 30. I bought an All Clad D5 set at Macys for under $500 with a bunch of discounts. I actually wish I bought Demeyere instead to avoid the rivets. My knives are a mix of Henckel Pro for me and Wushof Ikon for Mrs (smaller handle). I also have a nice Japanese gyuto but don't love the handle for sustained use.

Hestan nanobond, or demeyer Atlantis for stainless Stargazer for plain cast iron. Lodge for cheaper. Staub or le creuset for enamel cast iron Blanc creatives for carbon steel. Matfer for cheaper. Faulk for copper. Really only worth it if you have gas. Generally would get a mix of fry pans in the different materials to see what you like.

Buy one at a time. They are expensive. A set is probably not a good idea. My favorite is Demeyere. My son literally inherited my mother's so it's an actual BIFL product. I also have some All-Clad which I like but the Demeyere has a slightly nicer surface -looks better and easier to clean. But either one is good. I would not go below those two in quality.

Best pot and pan set
Demeyere is the answer if you have rivets. I have 3 saucepans that I almost always go for over my all-clad (even though I do love it as well). I wouldn’t buy a set, but instead buy singles with what you most need. Are you a big pasta person? Buy a big pot. I almost never use mine and it takes up a ton of storage (if I want pasta I tend to do ravioli or tortellini and can do that in a smaller pot). Do you like Asian food? Carbon steel wok. Non-stick-ish go with a 10-12” cast iron.

Some good articles for Europeans?
Although the sub is very US centric, most BIFL brands in general are European, with some notable exceptions like Patagonia (which you can find in Europe). Kitchen: Demeyere, Le Creuset and Staub. I don't think there's better for cooking than these 3. Rösle kitchen tools. Italian coffee mills and machines from several high end brands. Peugeot pepper mills. Even popular Silestone counter tops are Spanish. Appliances: Miele, Siemens, Bosch... Clothing: (There's a thousand brands, but to name a few BIFL ones) Sunspel, Zegna, Logo Piana, Brunello Cucinelli, Brioni, Falke (although Socks are not really BIFL, they are for sure better than the over hyped Darn Tough around here). Luxury items: Any serious watch brands or luxury hand bags are European, just name a brand. Depending on your budget, you have a lot to choose from. And then depending on other niche stuff that you might be looking for, there's probably some local producer from Italy, Spain or Portugal that will have it in word class quality.

I'm not saying it's not a good price for what it is. I use my Demeyere pieces nearly every day. I'm saying its lack of popularity probably has to do with the fact that it's much more expensive than All-Clad in the USA.
