black leather gloves - are dents worth splurging, or is there a sub-$100 alternative worth considering?
Dents are very nice but not very durable. That sort of soft and supple leather tends to be more delicate. Cheaper gloves are likely to be more hard wearing - but of course they won’t feel as nice. Up to you what to prioritize.

black leather gloves - are dents worth splurging, or is there a sub-$100 alternative worth considering?
Dents are absolutely worth it. I bought my wife a pair of driving gloves shortly after we purchased her Lexus, (a treat for her since she drove economy cars for 12 years before we moved much closer to her work location). The leather is so soft. I purchased a pair for myself as well that I keep in her car. My "justification" was not wanting to put the oils from our hands on the leather steering wheel. LOL I purchased another pair of cashmere lined driving gloves for the missus as a Christmas gift, and I'm thinking of a pair for my daily driver!

Dents made in England are a superior glove with amazing customer service. I once had a loose thread come up in the thumb of one of my Dent’s gloves and they sent me a new pair no questions asked.

you've done good research on the options. dents is definitely premium - their hairsheep leather is super soft and the cashmere lining is luxurious. for $140 on sale, that's actually a decent price for what you get. the kent wang deerskin at $95 is also good value - deerskin is durable and soft. the spier & mackay at $58 with acrylic blend lining is where you start to compromise. acrylic lining isn't as warm or breathable as cashmere/wool. if you can afford the dents on sale, i'd go for it - they'll last years and feel amazing. touchscreen fingers are nice but not essential unless you use your phone constantly in the cold.

Thin Leather Gloves for Women
Agree with Dents, although stick to neutral colours. I’ve bought black, brown and navy - the navy ones look awful after several wears. (Brown and black are going strong.)

Anyone won a pair of leather gloves they've worn for +5 years? I'm tired of buying >$80 gloves that desintegrate wethin <2 years
Late here, but for the DENTS recommendations, be aware that the only gloves still made in Britain are their Heritage collection. All other gloves are made elsewhere, like China. I'm very upset that this was not known ahead of time when I ordered my spouse some gloves for Christmas. The China gloves are garbage.
