  Are there any legit BIFL water hoses? The kind that doesn’t kink and fall apart?

  +1 for Dramm. I’m sure many of these other brands mentioned are good too, but I wouldn’t know because my current ones have lasted about 10 years with no leaks, often not put away properly. Only issue was one of the fittings was misshapen and won’t thread after I accidentally drove over it with my car.

  Dramm ColorStorm Premium Rubber Garden Hose - we bought several for our new house and they're great. Had them for \~3 years, haven't fallen apart, don't kink, easy to roll up.

  I like my Dramm stuff, all rubber, brass fittings. Replaced my last rubber hose. Love actual rubber hoses because they are super durable and if they eventually pop a hole somewhere they are easily fixable.

  Dramm will last a long time. Washers wear out like normal. If the head of the nozzle ever breaks you can get a replacement as well.

  I’ve replaced mine few times because I didn’t like them, but I’ve only broken two and both had been left outside over the winter (oops). I bought Dramm watering wands this time and I’ll bring them inside over the winter so hopefully they’ll last long.

  Joining in the Dramm love. I have two water wands that are approximately 8 and 10 years old and a hand multi-sprayer that’s around 8. I take them apart in the winter and soak the heads in vinegar to get the water deposits out of the holes but that’s the fault of my water, not the product. If you do have a failure their customer service is top notch! I had a 2 year old fan sprinkler stop moving back and forth in a Saturday afternoon last year. I emailed the company with a photo and description of the problem and what I’d done to troubleshoot it. Within 30 minutes I had a reply asking for my address and by the end of the week I had a brand new unit. No questions asked.

  Been there, man some of those big box ones are junk right off the shelf. I grabbed one from Lowe’s last year that looked solid and it started leaking from the handle after like two uses. Might be worth ordering something like Dramm or Eley online instead of rolling the dice in-store.

  This is solid advice, didn’t think about splitting it up like that but makes a lot of sense. I’ve been trying to find that one “do-it-all” nozzle but honestly might be better off just building a little setup with the right heads for different jobs. And yeah, learned the hard way about leaving one out over winter… snapped clean inside. Gonna look into those Dramm options and the shutoff valve too, appreciate the tip.

  Fun fact - most "brass" nozzles available from stores are just gold anodized aluminum and they are shit. Rainbird and Dramm both sell some quality real brass nozzles. Another good mention are the "firehose" style but you need to add a shutoff valve

If it eventually leaks at the edge, there is a screw on the face you can tighten. Pick a fun colour so you don’t lose it in the grass :) I’ve had mine for probably ten years.

  When you spin the nozzle of a dramm and the cheap HD/Lowes nozzle then you’ll understand. Tolerances are nice and tight and the dramm weighs about twice as much. It’s much better quality brass.

  Idk about the ones sold at big box stores. What I do know is that the ones I have have lasted a very long time. Before I bought my second one, I used the big box trigger type. Id spend $10-15 every year replacing the Orbit or Melnor from HD or Walmart. Do that twice, and you should have just bought the Dramm. Now as far as the "brass" ones at HD, I suspect (again, I dont KNOW) that they are probably asian knockoffs, and probably use less expensive alloys, internal parts, or machining processes to make. I say this because this tends to be the MO of asian manufacturing. Not really a jab of asian manufacturing, it has its place, but that is the reality of its place in the market.

  Everyone is right about the brass nozzles, but depending on your needs you might need a couple/few. The adjustable jet ones are most common, but if you use your hose to water plants you’ll probably also want a mister and/or shower head. Dramm makes all three kinds and are solid. Adding a valve and quick release fitting to the business end of your hose can get you closer to the convenience of those multi-spray pattern trigger nozzles. If you end up sticking with the multi-spray nozzle, you can help it last longer by protecting it from both UV and freezing temps. UV weakens the plastic bits over time, and water freezing inside the nozzle can break all the guts in one go.
