Vorwerk bricks all Neato robot vacuums
My dreame has all features open and has no subscriptions to be sold. It does its job quite well too. Vacuumwars.com rates it the best robot vacuum of 2024.

What’s a small upgrade you made that ended up being way more impactful than expected?
THIS!! Costco has the Dreame on sale until 12/30-ish and I am so pumped. If you hate it, just return it. But you won’t hate it. All 5 star reviews, too. Costco gives you extra supplies also

What’s a small upgrade you made that ended up being way more impactful than expected?
My wife and I just upgraded from the most basic $100 eufy to the Dreame L10 ultra gen 2 and the difference is INSANE. We got it refurbished off ebay from the Dreame account for $240 too, which was the icing on the cake!

What have you used the most at home these two years?
There is a sub dedicated to robot vacuum/mops. Easy to get overwhelmed with so many choices. you will find a lot of discussions on Black Friday/cyber Monday deals, including by price range. Most reputable brands are Roborock and Dreame. Majority opinion is to buy from Costco or Amazon and get a warranty. Manufacturers are sketchy about repairs when you buy direct. You can get Roborock for about $50 less online but service is more important if there's an issue.

What are the Best Robot Vacuum Right Now?
I love my dreame, it doesn't get stuck and really really cleans. I like to have it do a vacuum first and then mop and the floors have never been cleaner.

What are the Best Robot Vacuum Right Now?
I've got Dreame L40 Ultra for a couple of months already and I'm blown away. It has a rather bulky main station but hey - it's mopping up nicely, you add clean water and forget about it for some time. Same with dust - it auto empties into a bigger bag. Plus, the app has lots of settings with smth that was important for me - setting a different levels of moisture used for mopping for different rooms - having wooden floors in some of the rooms I'd rather avoid having floors too wet so I can set up a routine where everything is cleaned the way I want it.

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
Same. The amount of floor upkeep with 2 toddlers is actually manageable since it vacuumes at least twice a day and does a deep clean vac/mop every night. I have a Dreamer L20 that was ~600$ USD. Support sucks but the robot itself has been great

Best steam mop + vacuum combo? Worth it or better to buy separate?
I got one for a specific use case and it's great. For general "clean my floors" I nearly never use it. But I have a ton of aquariums so it's very nice to clean dirty water or aquatic plant leaves up off the floor. If you're often cleaning up dirty messes off your floor, it's probably great. If you just want your floor to be cleaner, it doesn't really do a great job. My Dreame mopping robot is better at scrubbing my floor than the actual vacuum I have (albeit mine doesn't steam)

The Best Robot Vacuum that Lasts?
I personally wouldn't get anything that wasn't on the list of robots supported by [Valetudo](https://valetudo.cloud/pages/general/supported-robots.html), the open source software replacement that makes it run entirely locally (although I believe that some models like iRobot might natively have no cloud integration). I'm not that stoked on something with cameras and mapping abilities sending and storing all that data on cloud servers. I've had a Dreame Z10 pro for several years. It's easy to open up and work on (although nothing major beside the consumables like brushes etc has failed yet). I wouldn't call it _actually_ BIFL, but judging on the curve of modern consumer electronics, I'm pretty happy with it. The valetudo mod on that model specifically wasn't the easiest from among the list, but also wasn't that hard, and if you have any electronics tinkering experience at all, I'd call it trivial, but there are models that are even simpler I believe (the site has instructions)

What purchase changed your habit?
After my $900 roborock broke right after the warranty period, I got a 350$ dreame and it is so much better imo. Simpler, the map doesn't change every time I put shoes on the floor and it does a better job mopping and self emptying my Australian shepherd's hair balls

The Best Robot Vacuum that Acutally Lasts?
I have the cheapest Dreame (F9?) 3.5 years. Battery is halved, but still works fine. Cleaning filters is PITA. I hate that they make it do inaccessible just to make people buy more.

Buy Once Cry Once items?
DREAME vacuum mop. Life changing. We have it set to do daily vacuuming and every other day moping; deep clean on the weekends. The amount of customization you can add to cleaning cycles is incredible. It uses lidar, so it’s really good about not running into things. Has a decent phone app. We live in a one story house with two dogs. Between me and the dogs, we track in a good bit of dirt. Haven’t once had to worry about it, as the daily vacuum cleans up after us. It’s not 100% perfect all the time, as it occasionally grabs a charging cable or something similar, but it gets 99% of the job done. Checking in on it once in a while when it needs help is no big deal. We bought ours on Black Friday sales.

whats a cheap reliable vacuum cleaner?
You might want to consider the brand Dreame. I can't say if it is buy-for-life but it is reliable and can do the job well while being within your budget constraint. Just make sure you have access to purchase accessories like batteries. I have the old model R-10 with the anti-tangle roller. I can say this is the one of the best ones you can get at the price range.
